Bringing over my post from the previous thread:

kaitanuva wrote:I wrote a mini novel of the entire experience from day 1 up until they left. Read if you're incredibly bored / interested. I did not proofread this at all.

Spoiler:

Saturday:
I landed at 10am at Honolulu airport. Picked up my luggage and called a taxi and went straight to my hostel. I was told they were gonna check me in at my room at 3pm onwards. So I, after having a 22 hour flight (without shower and all, ewwww) tidied myself up as best as I can by shaving and washing my face and headed straight to the first SCANDAL event: the expo at Waikiki Beach Marriot hotel 2nd floor. Now it is about 11am-12pm. I met my very first SH members just outside the expo room in Jade and Erick themselves, who were setting up the banner. More members started coming and we introduced ourselves. I then remembered that I had to give my fan letter to Jade and went back to my hostel to retrieve it. So I return to the hotel after like 20 mins and went into the expo, which was really starting to get under way. There I meant all the wonderful SH members and we all introduced ourselves. Jade and Erick were behind a “booth” with the awesome banner spread out for all fans (Japanese and SH alike) to sign / write messages. I then went to the registration booth for the tour where a kind Japanese woman who spoke both English and Japanese registered me and signed me off on her attendance list (there were SO many names! As many Japanese fans as SH members!)  Then she gave me my Ekiden / SCANDAL bag which contained the Priority Pass & a yellow Ekiden t-shirt (both of which were required to enter the music festival first), a schedule of the fan meeting tour, and some coupons at Hawaii stores. I then went back to our little SH meeting area and attempted to pay and get my SH purple t shirt, but sadly Erick told me he ran out of small size somehow! Oh well. So then the expo officially went under at around 2pm and we had two Japanese girls demonstrate some warm-up exercises for the race tomorrow morning. They were so funny as they too had trouble imitating the exercises shown to them by a Japanese man coordinating the event. We were encouraged to participate in the exercises! After that, the four artists started coming on the stage for introductions much to the delight of everyone in the expo room. Of course, we gave SCANDAL some raucous cheers! Each band introduced themselves and then left the stage. This was my first time seeing SCANDAL in person, it was so awesome. So afterwards very young Japanese girls (7-10 years old) started coming on the stage clad in Hawaii gear (flower necklace, straw skirts, barefoot) and started dancing in Hawaiian style to Japanese tunes. It was so cute. We hung out some more at the expo room and I managed to grab two white blow-up sticks which would prove to be CRUCIAL later on. So now it’s like 3:30pm and after I exchanged as many numbers as possible through Line messaging system, where we managed to make a group chat. So everyone went their separate ways temporarily to prepare for the next event: the banner making event with SCANDAL. Since it’s after 3pm, I finally get to go back to my hostel and check in to my room. You guys all heard of hostels, right, where you can meeting amazing people from around the world? UNFORTUNATELY, I absolutely got the wrong end of the stick. I go into my room and I am greeted by this gloomy looking Japanese guy who looks like he is disappointed because he now has to share a room with someone when he had it all to himself before. Wow what a complete downer. I quickly settled myself and headed back out. At like 4:30pm all the SH members met up again outside the expo room where we waited for the SCANDAL girl coordinator to take us to the secret SCANDAL banner making secret location. 5pm approaches (and some members made it just in the nick of time) and the coordinator(s) take our attendance and we start heading out. The Japanese fans were escorted to the location before us though, oh well. So we all walk to the location as a group, which happened to be about a 5-8 minute walk or so away from the hotel. We get to an open grassy area with some tents where a banner is laid out. All the fans Japanese and SH alike started signing the banner, which they told us were to be for the race itself, to cheer them on. We spot some Hawaiian girl who apparently was part of the Fan Meeting Tour. I asked if she was Hawaii fan but apparently she wasn’t…? (she would later go with us to the meeting place) Ah well. Then SCANDAL arrived later in a van and came out, much to everyone’s delight. We cleared out of the tent and they went into it to write their own messages on the banner. Afterwards everyone got together for a group picture, one without SCANDAL and with them. As SCANDAL was leaving, the SH members started chanting happy birthday song to Tomomi, who was very much taken aback and happily told us “Arigato”. SCANDAL leaves, taking the banner with them, and we leave the grassy area shortly afterwards. SH members then start planning our official meet-up location and time. We agreed upon Tsukiji, a sushi buffet at 7:30pm. Since it was like 6:40pm at that point I decided to just go straight to the restaurant with a few other SH members. So then we took the bus and arrived at our location where we and other members all met up. We had a great time! The sushi and other Japanese food were simpy great, but I only could finish two plates worth…I ate so much seafood that it started feeling like slime to me, hahaha. Unfortunately when it was time to pay our bills the waiter would only allow us to take one check or four checks. This made this VERY complicated as some people could only pay with credit while others paid with cash. After about 30 mins, much thanks to Hubert who tried his best to handle all the cash and cooperation with the waiter, we finally sorted it ou and left the restaurant. But damn if I wasn’t taken aback by the $50 dinner bill (for myself) haha. It’s about 10pm now. We walk through the mall (in which the restaurant is situated) and we stop by the Gump restaurant where SCANDAL took a pic at, and we took pics of the “landmark” ourselves. Then we head to an open area in the mall and started getting hyped for the days to come. Erick started distributing t-shirts to everyone (yeah…still didn’t get mine haha. Erick sends his condolences to me!) and Jade started collecting fan letters. But wait! Jade used my brown folder in which I put my fan letter in, as the main folder for ALL fan letters! This little detail made me a little happy, lol. So then we hang around a bit more and people started talking and forming teams for the race in the morning. Some members made their famous nicknames here: The Flying Dutchman (Pieter), The Human Torch (Frederick), etc. We start leaving at around 11:00pm and headed our separate ways. I left with a small group of members and we waited for our return bus. It took a realllly long time for our Number 19 bus to finally come, and we started getting paranoid about how to get back to our residences, lmao. But it finally came – and we all went back to our rooms safely. What a first day!!! I took my first shower in like 36 hours, lmfao. Felt sooo good. And I set my alarm at 5:30am in order to catch the start of the Ekiden race where SCANDAL themselves would be present to cheer on the runners. I sleep like a baby…
Sunday:
My body automatically wakes me up at like 4:40am. I took my time in getting ready and head out at like 5:15am to the start line. As I arrive approach the place of interest, the race begins to start!! I quickly go into the crowd, and see other SH members. They told me I just missed SCANDAL cheering on the runners!!! OMG WTF!!! Missed by a god damn minute! What bad luck -_-. The SH members then show me the incredible candid pictures they were able to take of the band, and wow was I amazed…and very jealous. So then what SH members were there (some of us couldn’t  wake up this early haha) congregated to an open field where we redirected some of our stray runners (lol) to the appropriate buses. What was left of us then made plans to head to iHOP for breakfast. This was my first time going there, and I had heard great things about it, lol. We separate temporarily, while my group headed straight to iHOP. There we reserved about 3 tables for the other SH members to come. I find an awesome deal on the special menu for $7 for special pancakes, a huge hash brown, and eggs. As we are all ordering I manage to get a hold of iHOP’s wifi and proceed to check out our forum updates. What do you know! You guys managed to snag the “Your song” PV and I downloaded it using the iHOP wifi because I didn’t want to kill my data lol. Thank you SH members who could not attend but were still able to keep us updated in stuff like this! So I share the downloaded “Your Song” PV with all the other SH members in iHOP while we are eating, and we all loved it! Also it is during this time that Eddie showed us the incredibly candid picture of the girls that he took (and I missed -___-) during the morning starting race. I immediately ask for the pictures and set the most kawaii picture of Rina as my current SH profile pic, hehe. So we finish iHOP and pay for our meal…ONLY TO FIND OUT MY ORANGE JUICE COST ME $5??? WHY? Oh well…the service was great anyways: there was one incident where the waitress misunderstood my request for whipped cream on my pancake order, and instead actually brought a whole new order of pancakes, with whipped cream on top. I informed her of the misunderstanding and she took it off the bill. Thank you, iHOP waitress! So then we head back out and go our separate ways again. Me and some other members tag along with Erick and Jade who want to get some beach supplies from various storage places around Waikiki, Honolulu. We grab the supplies and it was great that we were able to help because Jade unfortunately sprained her ankle somehow…So then we go our separate ways again and planned to meet up at the beach to “camp” at the entrance of the Ekiden live concert place. Now it is around 8am and I hang out at a SH members hotel (Geoff and Glenn) while I recharged my phone and stuff. So we headed out to the beach after like an hour (Geoff stayed behind and tried to catch a nap because he woke up at like 4am and got like 3.5 hours of sleep, poor guy haha) and got there at like 9am where Erick and Jade has already begun setting up the campsite. On my way there I met some of our very own runners who finished their legs of the race and who looked very much depleted, and they told me where to find the campsite. So I helped complete the campsite and we just start chilling at the beach in the very, very sunny and hot weather. We told all the members where we were and they started coming in one by one as time passed. It’s like 10am when the last of our runners rejoined us and told us how their race went. The Flying Dutchman and Human Torch made some incredible memories at the race, as expected. But then one of our members told us how he met SCANDAL cheering for them at the finish line! Much jealousy ensued. Then we left our campsite while some people stayed behind (Jade and others) and went to the open area with tents of food and water for the finished runners. We congratulated all of our runners and then headed back to our campsite to chill until the festival started. We had much trouble with the wind flipping our umbrellas over and the constantly moving sun affecting our shade area. We also met a cool Japanese woman, Nami, and her husband, Takahiro, both of whom were SCANDAL fans. We chitchatted a lot about SCANDAL of course and she also spoke English fairly well so I asked if she could translate some Rina tweets for me, and she did lol. So then officials came to us and started informing us to move back because…SCANDAL (and two other bands, MK and Monkey Majic I think it was?) WAS COMING IN EARLY TO REHEARSE!!! We simply moved our campsite a couple of feet, and then OUT COMES SCANDAL!!! Right now it’s about 11am. Not all of the members were here now, some of them were sleeping…what a shame =(. So then at this point I went past the concert stage to where the outdoor bathrooms were, because you know, I had to pee. Just as I begun to walk to the bathroom and leave the campsite, SH members began yelling and pointing to a white van that was pulling up just nearby the stage. I managed to come up to the van, and OUT COMES SCANDAL!!! I didn’t want to bother them as they were climbing up to the stage…But man, at this point I think my luck began turning around. So I went to my business and came back to our campsite. We were kept at the absolute outer fence of the concert venue while SCANDAL went up to the stage and started testing all the instruments and practicing. Man, you don’t know just how HIGH Tomomi’s voice is until you actually hear her test the mic! When she said “HEEEEYO” it was soooo freaking loud I was actually taken aback by her voice, haha. Then the girls started practicing bits and pieces of songs such as Doll. We then got to hear a full rendition of Runners’ High!!! We were so happy at this point and then the girls were satisfied with their practice and started leaving the stage, but not before giving us a friendly goodbye!! We stuck around for the other bands but for the most part we retreated to our campsite. Skip forward to 3:30pm and then we begin lining up for the Priority Pass entry to the festival. The festival was scheduled to start at 4pm. At this point I begin blowing up my two white sticks and proceed to have a little swordfight with The Flying Dutchman, lol. So then the officials told us to line up at 3:45pm and we and the Japanese fans do so as best we could, but it was more like 3 lines lol. At about 3:50pm we were let into the concert standing area and everyone rushed to the front to get up and center view of the stage. I managed to get the 3rd row, but I was right in front of where Haruna (and Rina!) would stand, so I was pleased. 4pm rolled around while we waited in great anticipation, and in the process was scorched time and time again by the very hot Honolulu sun. The two MCs, one local and one Japanese, began a very boring introduction while we kept waiting anxiously. So then the first band finally comes on stage, MK(?) and they perform two songs and we cheered them on. But their last song, they dedicated it to SCANDAL – Shunkan Sentimental cover! This was very good and all us hardcore SCANDAL fans cheered them on. The lead singer was very good – they were only 18,18,17,14 years old! (Lead singer & electric guitarist = female, support singer & bass = female, support singer & rhythm guitar = female, drums = male). Then we move onto the runners’ award ceremony, which was quite forgetful as they introduce “categories” of runner awards such as old, all female, all male, fastest overall. They also sent out a Hawaiian beauty who went by the name of Jessica. She was part Japanese and was honestly really really beautiful, wow. She spoke fluent Japanese and presented many awards to the runners. We get back to the bands: next up is Monkey Magic, an all male pop rock group. They played many okay songs, the lyrics of which was a play between English and Japanese. Two of their members were Caucasian, and the other two were Japanese. They finished their act of about 4 songs and we had to wait quitttte a while in absolute agony because of the heat and standing around (my back killed at this point) for them to setup the stage for SCANDAL. But by the time SCANDAL finally came up (much to the roar of all us fans) all my pain disappeared. As soon as SCANDAL got on, the sun was setting, awesome!!! No more heat!!! Haruna started things off with a MC in entirely Japanese. Then they started playing Satisfaction. We went crazy, and me with my two sticks was probably very noticeable haha. Then came Taiyo Egaku Story. More craze. I had to reblow one of my sticks because it had a leak at this point, haha. At this point there was a pause between songs. It was really dark at this time so lights had to be turned on. THE PARTY WAS GETTING STARTED! I started a SCANDAL, SCANDAL, SCANDAL! chant and people picked up my chant!!! I was so happy at this. Then came the rest of the set list. We HEYed HEYed HEYed at every chance we got when we were able to and a lot of people yelled each of the members’ names to try to get their attention. Haruna looked sooo happy and lively throughout the concert! Rina was smiling as always in the back. It was very hard for me to see Tomomi and Mami, unfortunately…At the end of the setlist, fans tried to say ENCORE! But were immediately stopped by the coordinators. I agreed, since there WAS another band coming up, a popular all male Japanese rock group, the name of which I forgot. So SCANDAL leaves, not before Haruna thanks everyone with a parting message. At this point a lot of SCANDAL fans began to leave because honestly we spent absolutely every little bit of our energy for that precious outdoor SCANDAL live, which was simply ROCKING! I stayed though, and I can honestly say that last Japanese rock band was a great live band, as they kept trying to get the audience involved. However this was not to the greatest effect as many of us were completely spent from SCANDAL, and I’d say honestly I only half-assed my enthusiasm for them, haha…Honestly in my opinion, SCANDAL should have been last so we could TRULY ask them for an encore!! Alas, this was not the case. So the concert ends and I leave with the other Mark, who was nearly wasted, and we go back to his hotel to stop and then go get something to eat. We ended up going to a Korean place after much deliberation. During this time (it’s about 10pm) we learn that Geoff and the others caught SCANDAL looking at the concert venue immediately after their performance was over and taking pics of the crowd themselves!!! So it’s 11pm now and I start to head back to my place. It begins pouring…wow seriously. I get drenched and then I learned that Rina also might have got drenched as she tweeted the unreliable weather of Honolulu, hahaha. I knock out at like 12:30am.

Monday:

I got a very nice spanking good night’s sleep as I wake up at 8am. I get ready for the last day as I message the SH chat group if anyone was still up after last night’s craze. Geoff messaged me and told me he and some other guys were going to a breakfast place nearby, but this was when I was still in the bathroom…So I missed them, got sad, went back to my place and grabbed my two of my safety granola bars as breakfast and devoured them. I later met up with Geoff and members at like 9:30am at their place. We were planning to go hang out at the zoo and museum with other members. We had plenty of time to kill until 4:30pm, when our private tour with SCANDAL started. So we head to the zoo and explored. We saw interesting animals such as various birds, komodo dragon, giraffes, zebras, lemurs (Zubumafoo, anyone? Nostalgia attack!), alligators, tigers, red butted monkeys, stray peacocks walking on the roads, etc. We also saw this one particular white bird that looked like a toddler goose that was SIMPLY EVERYWHERE IN ALMOST EVERY EXHIBIT WE WENT TO! We made up an explanation for this rogue bird that seemed to appear everywhere as the dude who was gonna prison break all the animals free lmao. We then leave the zoo (after being attacked thoroughly with mosquitoes throughout) and head to the aquarium to meet up with other members. We had a great time and looked at various sea creatures such as sharks, giant trevalls, jellyfish, old fossil-like fish, sea turtles, seals, etc. At the end we visited the souvenir shop where some of us picked out gifts for SCANDAL. So now it’s like 12pm and then we split up; my group decided to go back to the breakfast place Geoff went to in the morning and to my surprise, everything was so cheap!!! I was finally sick of paying over $20 for a meal and finally got a nice burger and soda drink for only $5! I’m definitely returning to this little shop every day for a meal for the rest of my Hawaii trip (I’m leaving on Friday, June 6th hehe). This little cafe was run by a nice Hawaiian young woman, who tended the store all by herself. I guess that’s how she manages to keep prices so low! Anyway, we ate and left the place, and it’s now like 3:00. We all go back to our rooms to prepare for the final SCANDAL tour. I go back to my hostel and prepared what I can. I brought along a bottle and straw in hopes of calling out Tomomi and reenacting what she did in AM2 convention in 2011 where she dropped the straw in a bottle, hahaha. I also brought my limited edition STANDARD album t-shirt to wear to the tour. I head out to the pick-up place at Marriott where only like two other fans were waiting. This is now 3:30pm. We wait until like 4:10pm as a little more members started showing up. Soon a tour lady showed up and to our complete surprise, told us we could write down questions on a piece of paper for SCANDAL to answer later!!! We had a really hard time of thinking of what to write, but I finally did write this down: “What was your most memorable moment of last night’s concert?” So then all the SH members showed up to the pick-up place and we learned that they already transported the Japanese fans. We get on the shuttle bus and the tour lady collect our questions and hands out envelopes which contained our seating positions in the secret meeting place. We get on the bus and have an absolutely raucous time as we hype up the impending meeting more and more and take many whacky photos only a bus full of fans would do! Near the end of the bus trip Erick and Jade informs me that they have something for me, and lo and behold, it’s the purple SH shirt! As I’ve said a couple of times, I didn’t really mind because I had a backup plan in my STANDARD t-shirt, but it was a good feeling. I remarked how the heck did they make it so fast and they just said “magic”. I then joked it must be a hand-me-down and everyone “oooo”ed. Lol sorry guys. We finally arrive at the secret destination and one of the Japanese coordinators come in and she tells us that because of the recent incident with the AKB48 member getting cut, to please be aware that our bags will get checked. We were happy to oblige and were relieved that nothing else was restricted because of paranoia. So we start going out of the bus into the meeting place, which had a very Japanese looking entrance with walkways over waters and lilies and all that. At the end was a modest sized warehouse room. But before that! IT WAS SCANDAL WAITING FOR US AT THE DOOR READY TO “LEI-WELCOME” US!!! We filed in a single line and we handshook and conversed briefly with each member individually, and then at the end either Rina or a Japanese coordinator put on the Hawaii flower necklace on our necks. As it neared my turn I took out my “Tomomi joke in a bottle” and tried to get her attention by yelling her name, but she was too busy with fans…Yep there went my chance to pull that off. Maybe another day in the distant future…Anyway I made sure my palms were not sweaty as it got to my turn and then finally shook Haruna’s, Tomomi’s, and Mami’s soft hands (we said “Aloha!” to each other). Tomomi pointed at my shirt after she shook my hand and yelled “Ah, STANDARD!” to which I gave her two thumbs up. Mami noticed too and said something along the lines of “Suge!” Mission accomplished. Then I get to my favorite member Rina and she puts on my necklace on me, smiled and I said to her “Arigato” with a big cheesy smile and she returned “Arigato” to me with a big beautiful smile. Yep. I died a little. I went in and took my seating position, which was about the 2nd row of table on the right, nearest where Mami would be. The members finally get on stage much to our delight and they welcome us and we cheer them every time. Tomomi, Haruna, Rina, Mami was their position on the stage, from left to right. Then we began to get our dinner / buffet as they called us to line up table by table. Our tables were mainly separated by Japanese and SH members by the way. So we eat our very Chinesey/semi-Japanese/American food. I personally got some fried rice, Chinese cooked fish, sweet and sour pork, fruity cake, tofu, and beef. It was quite good and filling, and free! So as we are eating, the translator lady turns out to be a Japanese interviewer and had done an interview with SCANDAL a few days ago. She lets us listen to the interview (mostly in Japanese) which she tells us she will air sometime next week. Thankfully good guy Geoff who sat beside me knew quite a bit of Japanese and translated most of the stuff for me. This was not the case for the translator lady, as she only translated stuff when she felt like it for the rest of the night. Very frustrating. So a little while later, SCANDAL comes back out…IN VERY KAWAII HAWAIIAN DRESSES!!! Wow they were so beautiful. Unfortunately Tomomi looked a bit out of sorts as she was coughing, looked to be quite sick. Poor girl. Everyone else was beaming and looking magnificent like angels. So then the translator lady pulls out five question cards only (only four of which will end up being answered) and questions the girls. The questions were, in no particular order because I forgot: “Which would you marry(?)” – asked by a Japanese girl fan. “When would you expect to go on a world tour?” – asked by one of SH. “What do you like more, beach or cold mountain?” asked by Japanese guy fan. I forgot the last question…maybe I’ll remember later, or you can check other members’ posts, very sorry…Anyway, the members’ answers were, in respective order: “We don’t really know who we want to marry yet, we like to focus on the band at the moment!” “Rina: we expect to go on world tour very soon! ;)Maybe even October! Wink’ “Haruna, Tomomi, Rina all said beach, Mami said cold mountain. Mami explains that she likes the spiritual side of cold mountains. Haruna loves summer. Tomomi and Rina’s answers I didn’t really get because of the damn translator lady.” After questions, we began to play a really amazing game. So the coordinators would ask the girls a Hawaiian word and the girls had to guess the meaning of the word. The room was separated into four teams, each for each member. I was part of team Haruna!...even though my favorite was Rina, haha I was so torn but yes I tried my best for Haruna! So then the coordinators would show us the fans the answer to the word but we can’t shout it out to the girls and could only act out the meaning to them for hints. The game begins. I cant really remember everything, sorry, but here is some of the words I remember: ocean, house, spouting water, fire. The last word that I cant remember, but I do remember that for that one Tomomi immediately knew the answer to somehow! For the house word, team Rina got very clever and made a house figure around Jeido who stood there to represent a person in the house. Rina got that easily…In the ocean word, it was very intense but I kept yelling Haruna’s name and she looked at me several times until I finally whipped out the dinner napkin and sailed it on my arm to mimic a ship in the ocean, and she finally got the message from me and yelled out ‘UMI!!!” I was so happy! Alas, the last question was spouting water and was worth 100 pts apparently, so whoever got this right won. It was very intense as people kept picking up their glasses of water, with various hilarious “spouting” gestures, but team Tomomi finally got it. Team Tomomi included Jade and Erick, the two prime people responsible for this amazing trip. The team members each got the interview lady’s small banner of her station, EACH BANNER SIGNED BY THE GIRLS PERSONALLY! Anyway I feel like Jade and Erick deserved such a prize after all their hard work. Congrats! So after the game is over, Haru commented how fun it was to see our efforts in acting out the word meanings from the stage, and they had such a blast! She was smiling so much. Moving on, we straight to the main event…THE ACOUSTIC LIVE! All the members get guitars that aren’t their own, and Rina gets a box that she sits on. They start off with Uchiagehanabi, much to my delight, as I don’t think they’ve performed this song live before and because I love this cute song. The song goes really slow and the vocals are really pronounced. The acoustic version of the song really brought out the nostalgia in the song and the “gazing at the night sky with fireworks” feeling. In the original song there is a “pause” in the middle – here Rina masterfully uses her drumming box to break that silence. The way she drummed her was really akin to the way tribes would do around a campfire. And it was exactly how the live felt at that mount: like we all around a campfire just singing along to the sparkly night sky. My favorite member is Rina so of course I noticed little things about her throughout this like her keeping her head down for much of the song hitting that box away – it looked she too was really into it. We finish the song up and then they start playing Hikare. The song had a really steady rhythm and almost put me in a trance. Felt kinda surreal at that point. The song finishes, and then Haruna announces that this is the last song, much to the “aww”s of the fans. She starts, and it’s Departure! Something’s different this time though. It’s only Haruna strumming her guitar and singing beautifully and slowly, while the other 3 just sit them solemnly. It was truly a farewell from our beloved band to us. At about the halfway point of the song, the song restarts with the other 3 chiming in. The song felt really heartfelt and a little bit sad. When it finished and as we were clapping, my feelings were shared: I spotted Rina teary eyed and wiped at her eyes here and there. So next came the SECOND big event of the night: the personal photo session right in the middle of the girls. I thought to myself though, taking a picture with Rina as she just finished watering her eyes? A bit cruel haha. Anyway we lined up to the stage by table and each person (a few couples here and there) went up to the stage and posed right smack dab in there with the girls. It was the ultimate personal photo and I started getting nervous. Of course we cheered when our members got up there. Some people tried to do some whacky poses and some had their poses toned down a bit. So then it’s my turn and I walk gingerly up the stage. I waved at the members like an idiot and smiled like an idiot and they returned both gestures without looking like idiots. So I stand in the middle and cheese hard. I could feel Rina’s shoulder touching mine; I was in SCANDAL HEAVEN. As soon as I got my photo I took my leave, but I gave the worst bow in history to the girls who waved me bye. So I head back to the bus and just take in everything that’s happened. The rest of the SH members go up as well and we collectively spaz out. To further escalate things one of the coordinators go into our bus and gives each of us a leather SCANDAL bag. So yeah, things can’t get any better than this, right? Right? So on our way back to the hotel we forced Erick to give a speech. He delivered it well enough. Just kidding, you were great. Lale and Neil also chimed in and showed appreciation to the people responsible for making this all happen, and we clapped multiple times. So we all plan to head to the Marriott bar right after this to meet up with the Japanese fans to have one more last laugh. We all go our separate ways back to prepare, and I head back to my hostel. After I fixed myself up as best as I could from the time frame of 8:45pm-9pm, I head back to the Marriott hotel. I enter a hallway and at the end of it I see four young Japanese girls. As we get closer to each other I squint and say to myself: “Is that SCANDAL? It can’t be right? IT CAN’T BE RIGHT?” Without thinking my arms fly up and started waving at them enthusiastically the whole time as we closed in on each other. They notice me after a few seconds of arm waving and then started waving back to me too. We exchange good byes to each other and then Tomomi say “Good night” to me at the end. My mind was blank at this point as I kept walking forward, but then five seconds later a lot of SH members ran after the girls. They returned shortly after as they told me that they were kept from the band by officials. So we head up to the bar up on the 3rd floor where we met up with others. The Japanese fans and the rest of the SH members came a while later after I kept humble bragging my ass off. We started getting to know each other and then reorganized the chairs so we would be more of a group. I was situated in a table full of Japanese fans, which included a newly wed couple on their honeymoon. No worries, it was high time to put my 3 weeks of Japanese to work. Many ordered beer; I ordered some brandy like a fool. It burned me greatly and I had trouble finishing my shot that I had to eventually get some sprite to help cool down. We talked the night away about SCANDAL and I shared the awesome photos taken by Eddie to the Japanese fans who too were amazed by the personal and quality pictures taken. We exchanged Line / Gmail contacts so they too could enjoy the pictures. I made an effort to introduce them to our site which was quite successful as many of them were interested. As most of us were under the influence by now, we started taking many drunk pictures and filling the bar with HARUNA, TOMOMI, MAMI, RINA chants. Soon people started leaving. I stayed for a while longer but soon left before a group of others comprised of both SH and Japanese fans (who I would later learn would hang out with what was left of the night). I descend the stairs down to the courtyard when I spot near the bottom of the stairs, Haruna’s face. Guess my unfortunate luck has turned into incredible luck in such a short time. The band was entering the ABC shop presumably to shop. I pass by them and wave and say bye and they look up and did the same. They must be getting pretty tired of that lone guy who keeps running into them, I bet. I walked out of that hotel like I was walking on air…Until next time? SCANDAL, pls.

SCANDAL in HAWAII 2014

Hey everyone! Moon is back so here comes my account of what transpired over the past few days in Hawaii :) It’s very long because I didn’t want to exclude ANYTHING. This is all about what I saw, what I heard, and how I felt. I hope you can read it until the end :)

**No photography or videos were allowed at any of the events so I can’t share any! Sorry people!

First, I’ll start off by saying that by far this has been one of the best times of my life. It was my first time hearing any rock band live and first time attending such a personal fan meet. I met many awesome people and finally became part of the Scandalous crowd. It goes without saying that it was worth every penny! I have grown to love SCANDAL 10x more than I did before and I’ll tell you all about why.

Here are the events in order:
-       Honolulu Ekiden Expo (May 31st)
-       Honolulu Ekiden and Music Festival (June 1st)
-       Fan Meeting Event (June 2nd)

HONOLULU EKIDEN EXPO

SCANDAL made a brief appearance at the Honolulu Ekiden Expo along with other performers of the music festival: Monkey Majik, Kima Guren, and EMKE. The press conference took place in Leahi Ballroom on the 2nd floor of Waikiki Beach Mariott Hotel.
That was my first time meeting other Scandal Heaven members in person and boy, I was pretty nervous. Honestly, I wasn’t all that great socially, and talking to people of different age groups wasn’t something I was used to. At first, all I saw was a hunk of guys so I didn’t approach them until I clearly saw the Scandal Heaven designed T-shirts. As I was previously worried about, I felt a bit out place being so young (I was the youngest attendee at 16) but they all welcomed me very warmly. I signed this huge animated banner of SCANDAL in Hawaii and received my shirts. I ordered 3 small sizes and 2 mediums (for family) but SH forgot to order SCANDAL’s share so they asked if they could give them mine first. Of course, I said yes! Heck, I wouldn’t mind if I never receive my smalls again aha Because I paid for those, it would be like I was gifting them :3 Anyhoo, as we waited, fans were already cheering because we could spot Mami’s orange hair from outside the entrance. Kima Guren came on stage first then SCANDAL, and boy, they received the loudest cheer! We held the banner up at the very front so when they saw it, they pointed and laughed/smiled. That just made me really happy. The SH fans were really awesome: there was a Canta costume and a Doramon costume, too!
The talk was really just promoting the Ekiden race and the music festival so it only lasted about 10 – 20 minutes. Still worth it though because that was my first time seeing them up close <3 They were small.

HONOLULU EKIDEN & MUSIC FESTIVAL

On the morning of June 1st, 4:20 AM to be exact, SCANDAL came to cheer on the runners of Honolulu Ekiden. Ekiden is a relay race with a maximum of 6 members per team with a total distance of 26.2 miles. Of course, there were teams from Scandal Heaven, too! Most of them didn’t train at all for the race but after hearing how they did (the horrors but also seeing SCANDAL at the finish line), I regret not running with them >_< (I also didn’t catch them in the morning – too early for me aha).
Later on the same day, there was an award ceremony for the fastest times for the race opened up by the band EMKE. They’re also huge fans of SCANDAL and they covered Shunkan Sentimental for us as the last opening song! The award ceremony and music festival took place at Sunset on the Beach, where they usually show movies on a huge screen outdoors (they premiere Hawaii Five-O there). The award ceremony started at 4:30PM, which was when they opened the gates for us. So I came at about 4:00PM when the other SH members were already waiting (they were top-notch with this stuff).
I was so excited when we were finally able to line up but I was hella undecided about which side of the stage I should stand at. Tomomi, Haruna/Rina, or Mami?! I decided to just go with my first instinct, my first love – MAMI-TASU. I did not regret anything (I probably wouldn’t have wherever I stood anyways). I was able to get right up against the fence! <3 <3
We were standing for a loooong time before the music festival finally started. My feet were getting sore and my spine felt like it was going to give up on me. The burning sun did not help either. (It did rain a bit, first time since I arrived in Hawaii, and I automatically thought it was SCANDAL’s blessing – the RAINY band. Pretty much saved me from having a heat stroke haha).
Monkey Majik were the first performers – I’m likin’ their music! While they were performing, Rina was freakin’ teasing us coming out of the tent and going back in. I could see them dancing around in there. There was a bit of a break after Monkey Majik were done as staff set up SCANDAL’s instruments. It was so interesting seeing SCANDAL’s staff in real life, too haha and Eisuke-san, oh man it just felt funny seeing him eyeing everyone. From where I stood on the right, I had a partial view of SCANDAL members backstage. They were out of the tent now: Tomomi and Rina stretching. Timo doing some superman pose that Mami copied and we later figured out they were trying to dance the hula. Rina pretending to chest pump. Haruna teaching them some weird chicken dance move (idek). They were just overall as random as we see on TV/interviews! At one point, the guys beside me said they wished that they could just watch Tomomi like a national geographic documentary film LOL. She also did random stuff like dumping sand out of her boots… I’m not entirely sure whether they were aware that we could see them or not… Anyways, Rina came out first to test her drums (omg it was so cool) and then finally, all the members assembled on stage.

SETLIST (7 songs compared to 3 or 4 from other bands):
1.     Satisfaction
2.     Taiyou to Kimi Egaku Story
3.     MC
4.     Runner’s High
5.     Awanai Tsumori no Genki de ne
6.     Departure
7.     MC
8.     Love Survive
9.     DOLL

I WAS BLOWN OUT OF MY MIND. SCANDAL was definitely the loudest band there - I felt the bass (Rina, Timo, and Haru) down to my very core and Mami’s strat stunned me. When they mentioned that they wanted to keep the same live feel from when they perform in Japan, I already expected songs like Satisfaction, Love Survive/Taiyou Scandalous, Doll, and Awanai. Runner’s High was perfect since, well, the music festival was to commemorate the race. The prelude didn’t take anything away from the energy I felt when they played it at all. I understood then why they always played the same songs. No matter how many times I’ve watched the performances, the live energy is over the roof and I would totally watch it again, in person, a thousands times over.
Whenever Mami had a solo, she came up to the very front of the stage and I was literally two arm lengths away from her! It was majestical! Love Survive’s rocking part was also the best ever <3 Haruna also came up to the very front – her voice has gotten so strong ^-^. Rina… she was really pounding those drums! Plus, whenever the cameraman came up to film her she did extra hair flips and it was just so cool.  It was amazing to watch Timo playing bass and singing at the same time live – I couldn’t get over it on my chair, how could I get over it having seen it live?!
So what exactly happened to me? I did something I expected to do, but not so crazily xD Everything I’ve watched served me well as I sang along and clapped to the beat for each song. I swung my extra Ekiden shirt when they played Taiyou to Kimi Egaku Story and DOLL. I can’t even express what happened in there. I was squished and jumping on one barefoot but I wasn’t tired at all. I even swung my head along but I kept my eyes on them because I just could not miss one second of them. We even yelled ENCORE but weren’t given one =\
By the time they finished, my voice was practically gone. Some of us left before the last performers (sorry but I was soooo tired) and it was funny to see all the Kima Guren fangirls going crazy taking our front spots like a hoard XD. One thing I heard that made me feel even more proud: My family weren’t crazy about SCANDAL but I told them to at least listen so they stood at the very back of the crowd. They said they saw only about 20 towels twirling at the front (us SH/SM fans) but then 20 more twirled their towels and another 20. The cheer for SCANDAL increased as the live continued and hearing that just made the night even better. I didn’t even care that I stood for 5 and a half hours – I practically skipped down the sidewalk. (I did realize that I didn’t pee for 6 hours though o_O;)

BUT YOU KNOW WHAT THE BEST THING WAS. It probably wouldn’t make it to anyone else’s top bests of SCANDAL’s live but to me, this made everything so otherworldly. SCANDAL came out just as the sun was setting, on Sunset on the Beach. The light slowly faded as they continued playing and when the harder rock songs came on, I realized that it was already full-on nighttime. The stage lights were on and Love Survive was being played. It felt perfect.

THE FAN MEETING TOUR

We all met at the Waikiki Beach Mariott Hotel Lobby and were whisked away to a “secret location” (that’s exciting in and of itself). There was a separate bus for Japanese fans from SCANDAL MANIA that left first. It wasn’t a long bus ride but we were being driven into a sketchy neighbourhood and we were afraid that we were being kidnapped :D . We ended up in front of a Japanese themed place… with my heart crawling up my throat. I was finally going to see them super close, shake their hand, listen to an exclusive acoustic… It was even harder to contain myself when we finally got to line up. SCANDAL were standing behind a desk in front of a large dining hall with a gift box at the end of the table (you had to put your present in there instead of giving it to them directly to avoid accidents like the recent AKB48 incident. We also had our bags lightly checked).
I shook hands with all four of them. Haru first, then Timo, Mami, and Rina. Being the last, Rina also put the flower lei over our heads. THEIR HANDS WERE SO SOFT AND TENDER. I was a nervous wreck and all I could say was “Arigatou” and “Hello”. Looking into their eyes was like heaven man, I was really in Scandal Heaven (pun intended). After Rina put the lei over my head, she said “Kawaii-des”. SHE CALLED ME KAWAII. OMFG. I bowed and thanked her twice but omg Rina was seriously an angel. All of them were. My heart is racing again as I’m writing this.
So after that we headed into the dining hall and took our designated seat given to us randomly when we first got on the bus. Mine was 3-C, the front table on the right side – by Mami-tasu again <3 What luck I had that day, seriously. The hostess and SCANDAL did a little greeting first then they left the stage. It was a buffet dinner so we ate while we listened to a radio recording of SCANDAL that was going to air a couple weeks later on KORL 97.1. It was a pretty cool dinner! I mean, how often do you get to eat with fellow Scandalous while listening to SCANDAL background music? Not often at all >:3
SCANDAL came back on stage with a different outfit: Floral Hawaiian dresses. They looked GORGEOUS. This seems like the perfect time so I’m going to spend this paragraph gushing about how beautiful they looked in person (going from Left to Right).

Tomomi wore a flowy, white dress that stopped above her ankles. Her hair was more of a light red/brown and it looked amazing on her. I melted whenever we made eye contact – her smile was just SO sweet paired with those sleepy eyes. Looked like she got a bit tan though aha but still, she was glowing. Literally. Her skin was so smooth-looking.

Haruna wore an orange dress with lighter orange floral patterns. Haru looks great in orange! The dress-length made her look taller too LOL. I could tell dresses really aren’t her thing from the way she stood/arm position though. I’m sorry, I just couldn’t stop thinking that when I first saw Haru xD Of course, she was beautiful – it really brought out her woman and being Haru, she was charming in every way. The white flower by her ear also accentuated her beauty <3 I also really like Haru’s complexion… Wahh so much Haru-ness.

Rina wore a black one that stopped midway between her knees and ankles. This girl is seriously doll-like. From the moment I first saw her at the Expo, I immediately named her a doll. She really does have a great body. I really, really had to include that. Out of the four, Rina has the best muscle tone – like you can tell she’s fit but she’s still feminine. I did actually pay attention to that stuff – slap me and call me silly (or a perv). Her eyes were so bright – I could feel the most excitement from her whenever I made eye contact. It just made me feel even more excited and happy. It was like a happy virus feeling.

Mami had on a floor-length, blue dress with white floral patterns. First thing I thought: That girl could be a model. The length made her look even taller even though she was already the tallest one among the four (but they’re all still tiny. I think I was give or take 1 cm taller than Mami o_O). She was beautiful. No doubt she will always be my first choice <3 Her skin was so MILKY WHITE. I literally ogled at her skin because it looked so flawless and not just pale, but milky white. I am also loving her hair – It has a orange bottom layer and a blonde top layer so it’s not too orange now. Her smile is also the most ADORABLE thing in the world <3

The funny thing was, there was this one point where the hostess was talking and Mami and Rina were just splitting their legs and trying to see how far they could go before the dress stopped them. They just did that in front of everyone on stage and it was so cute. Tomomi joined in and because of that, I knew that her dress was more flowy than MaRina’s (lol).

OK, now that I’m done spazzing about their looks, let’s move on.

Q&A
We had a little Q&A session where 5 random questions were picked. Everyone wrote a question beforehand though and mine was a request for them to dance and blow us a kiss ^^; Mine didn’t get picked though *sigh*. One of the questions was about a world tour and SCANDAL said YES… they want to. Some guy saw the look on Eisuke’s face and the description was hilarious. Apparently, Eisuke’s expression was like, “omg no why did you say that now we have to work even harder.” But HEY, that was just how it was with Osaka-Jo Hall. They said it years ago, a promise to their fans, and we know from experience they keep their promises <3 I have faith in SCANDAL.

GAME CORNER
We were split into four teams – each member of SCANDAL being a team leader. I was put into TEAM TIMO. I’ll be honest, we were kind of like “oh no” because as we all know, Tomomi can be such a ditz sometimes <3 Anyways, the game was charades except we were given Hawaiian words and we had to show them what the word meant. Timo was actually a ditz LOL The members had to do rock, paper, scissors and after numerous turns Timo finally won… and she answered with the wrong word T_T The most hilarious part was, all the other members answered with wrong words X’D Rina was on the winning side while Haruna and Mami were just confused as heck.  The last word was “Waikiki” which meant “Spouting Water”. It was worth 100 points >:3 Guess who won? Unwittingly…

TEAM TIMO!

The prize was a card (of KORL 97.1 FM) signed by all members of SCANDAL. I even got official autographs… Amazing, amazing luck (teamwork)! The game was pretty crazy! SCANDAL said they enjoyed and were surprised with how lively everyone was. We were literally jumping off our chairs and doing the weirdest actions (I admit I was not crazy like them but I had my fun watching). They were laughing lots as well and seeing that made me feel blissful. Is that too strong a word? That’s how I felt whenever we were the source of their laughter.

ACOUSTIC LIVE
Finally, it was time for the acoustic live. I was slightly surprised that they were performing with those dresses, especially since Rina will be using the cajon (acoustic drum box). It was Rina’s first time performing with the cajon – she said she practiced hard for us~ Timo used her regular fender bass while HaruMa used their acoustic guitars.

SETLIST:
1.     Uchiage Hanabi (Skyrockets)
2.     Hikare
3.     Departure

I was almost BURSTING with joy. This was their first official dedication to an acoustic live. Though it was only 3 songs, it was plenty. Ever since I first found SCANDAL, I’ve always wished to hear them perform acoustically but I never thought I’d get to GO to one and watch it LIVE. In a way, this acoustic live felt incredibly special. On a big important side note: Rina’s cajon really hit the spot – it was so strong and my body literally thrummed. The live feel at this proximity was unexplainable.

I was not expecting Skyrockets to be played at all but I recognized it at its first bar. I never thought I’d hear that song live anywhere! It was beautifully done and held a very mellow melody that fit the lyrics really well. It was like the type of song you could sing around a fire, under a sky full of fireworks and had an air of nostalgia. It wasn’t very different from the original except for the acoustic instruments and slower pace. My favourite part was the beginning and ending when they sang boom boom boom fireworks. The instrumental there and the way their voices harmonized was <3 Oh, and Mami was adorably cute because she was smiling and singing, totally getting into the song.

Rina started off Hikare and Mami joined in shortly as the two slowly and jointly built up the intro. I loved and felt so privileged to have seen Rina and Mami just look at each other and match the rhythm. Haruna joined in afterwards and that’s when the crowd finally recognized the song. I didn’t realize until Timo added in her vocals and then I only remembered the name of the song when they sang the chorus ^^; Both Tomomi and Haru had such clear and strong vocals. I was amazed and in love with how Timo raised her voice during the chorus in a crescendo. I was also in love with watching Mami sing – the way she accentuates notes in a way where you can visibly see it and how her voice really balances out ToHaru’s voices. The build up of the song made my heart beat so fast – I couldn’t even blink. They were all going at their instruments so earnestly (I was mostly watching Rina and Mami though). Timo’s voice kept growing stronger and then she finally hit the high note and I was… I was f*cking gone. I was gone. I very literally clamped my hand to my chest and watched Timo without blinking, jaw dropped. I did that. I really did. I found the perfect word for Tomomi’s voice: PEACH. I’m not sure how it relates but her voice is so sweet and OPEN – it’s strong. People better realize that. The curious thing though, she was coughing throughout the fan meet and in between songs (probably from her allergies).

Lastly, Departure. Yes, they performed it at the Music Festival already but I just knew that they would perform an acoustic version as well. Haruna sang the first third or half of the song by herself, just her and her guitar, before the other members completed the sound. It has a slower pace and really flows like water. I could hear the emotion in Haruna’s voice clearly – sweet in a dark chocolate kind of way, which sounds perfect for a song like Departure, don’t you think? It was especially sweet when she took over Timo’s first verse~ <3

PHOTO TIME
Still trying to recover from the amazing live, we were given the opportunity to take a photo with SCANDAL. Me. In between. Them. Haruna and Rina. O_O It was embarrassing… They pointed at the ground and I saw a white slip so I crouched down to pick it up thinking someone dropped something but in fact they were just telling me to stand there… I did that in front of SCANDAL... my god that was so embarrassing. BUT I was wearing a sleeveless shirt so I brushed shoulders with Rina and I completely forgot about my embarrassment XD After taking a Polaroid photo, I just turned around, bowed, and said thank you. The last pair of eyes I saw were Timo’s and omg, I think I melted on the way out the door. I regret not making much eye contact with Mami but I was way too nervous and arghh that’s the only thing I regret.

The Acoustic Live and Fan Meeting Tour was a COMPLETE SUCCESS.

AFTER PARTY

We were all driven back to the Mariott hotel, dazed. We were also given a SCANDAL jean tote bag and I LOVE IT. It’s like.. how many bonuses are there?! That was the last one though. Oh wait, no it wasn’t ;)The plan was to have an after party up in Mariott’s bar to celebrate the success with SCANDAL MANIA. After some waiting and organizing, we all met up on the 4th or 5th floor roof where they had a bar. Don’t worry, I only got a plantation iced tea :p
This was also the first time SCANDAL HEAVEN from the US and SCANDAL MANIA from Japan got together. Man, those Japanese fans were crazy! They were chanting, dancing, and singing to the point where the hotel staff had to come out and give us a warning for being too loud. They knew how to partay~

I had an AMAZING time. All my nervousness was swept away as we talked about SCANDAL and some random stuff. I’ve never hung out with so many guys in my life haha. I swear the girl to guy ratio there was at most 1:7. Apparently widely known, I was the baby of the group but they all treated me like a little sister, for which I’m really grateful. Everyone was so nice and I am truly glad that I joined in. We all have stories and some of them are more attached to SCANDAL than others but in a way, we can all connect. True, I probably haven’t said anything of importance but I felt closer with everyone. I just feel that it’s amazing how this group of people, including the Japanese, could get together and have fun from around the world. There was a lot of JapEnglish going on but it all worked out!

It was one of those nights that just felt endless. We stayed an hour past the bar’s closing time before we got kicked out. Getting kicked out was a miraculous beating though – we bumped into SCANDAL on the way down! That, that was the last bonus. I was walking down the stairs with everyone else, planning to leave because I wasn’t sure if I wanted to go “bar hopping”, and all of a sudden I saw someone. She looked way too familiar.. I knew exactly who she was but my mind just kind of BLANKED OUT. I was looking at TOMOMI. SCANDAL were just leaving the ABC store (convenience store) when all of us came down but the craziest thing was… some Japanese fan (probably tipsy) grabbed Eisuke and jumped up and down with him. Like literally grabbed him around the waist and hopped on the spot! I felt SO BAD for Eisuke but at least he didn’t look mad. He looked kind of cool about it but I swear he was probably like boiling inside XD Eisuke was like a rag doll X’D That was what I came down to. Eisuke being tortured while SCANDAL watched. SCANDAL was crazy laughing at it though – like bending over ‘cause it was so funny and we all did, too! That Scanal Mania fan was hilarious – I sure hope he didn’t get a warning. The rest of us were all very respectful though. None (mostly) of us fished out our phones to take pictures or anything and we kept at a safe distance. Some of us created a man-fence and we just kind of slowly backed away.

That was awesome. After we left, I was really hoping that SCANDAL heard us being all loud upstairs haha. It’d be cool for them to know that we had an after party of our own, mixing in SCANDAL HEAVEN AND MANIA.

Hyped up even more, we went looking for another bar. The one we went to was like a club and no way was I going into that (though I wanted to try, honestly). Good thing I didn’t, though, cause the police came afterwards. Anyways, after a long debate we just all headed down to the beach where the music festival first took place to “relive” the moment. Dorky. It was nighttime and the sand was cold but like they said, as long as we had got the group then that’s all that mattered (cheesy I know but hey). We just chilled out for a while until around 2:30AM (That was like a full 10 hours with just Scandalous). When we finally decided to call it a night, I had my bodyguards walk me back to my hotel LOL. No but really, they were sweet cause I was the only girl left.

Spoiler:

With only three to four hours of sleep in me, I woke up at 6:30AM to get ready for one last mini get-together. We had breakfast at a famous udon place because the majourity were going to leave that day, including me. I think the main event of that day was some juicy information: SCANDAL might have started a new relationship. Not amongst themselves of course. Amongst two fans of SCANDAL :3 It was so cute – we just knew something was going to happen throughout the trip. The guys were playing matchmakers the night before~ If something works out, that’d be the second relationship SCANDAL started. I’ll leave it at that!

To those who read all the way, thank you and I hope you enjoyed it! I don’t mean to like… throw knives at you aha but I really needed to get all this written down and remember the tiniest details. I do realize my writing got messier and messier but…. whatever XD It’s a blog not a story!

To those who were there, thank you so much for such an amazing time! <3

A BIG THANKS to the organizers of the event who fought to allow Scandal Heaven to join the exclusive fan meeting tour. Also special thanks to Freddie (Fredrick), Glenn, Neil, Mark, Pete, Jadeo, Allan, Jeff, Eddie (and all others who I forgot the names of, sorry!) for hanging out with me. It was a blast <3

Thanks kaitanuva and Racheiru for the long stories!!  Praise  Thanks all for the photos Praise Waiting for more!

Too many things too comment on but it looked amazing! Really happy to read your stories  Happy Onion One thing seems clear, SCANDAL is even much better in "real" and it looks like you fall even more in love with them and their music if you see them live Onion Love

How many fans were at the meet party? Does anyone know how much in total was spend for your whole trip (plane, tickets, hotel, food, etc)? Just curious.

Wow, it sounds like everyone had a great time!  After reading everyone's accounts here and on twitter, I'm realy sad that I missed the registration for the fan meeting....

But I'm glad that I at least got to see them live (for free!) and receive a couple of replies from Rina all in the same day.
I so wanted to take a picture of Rina when she came out to do the drum check.  Unfortunately, I couldn't get a clear shot, so I gave up.

I kind of felt bad for MONKEY MAJIK.  There're a great band, but it seemed everyone was just waiting for SCANDAL to come out.  After SCANDAL finished, a whole crowd of people left....I was glad that the Kimaguren fans made up for the large absence of people.

The sunset during the live was perfect.  It created a special atmosphere that you can't create anywhere else.

I guess, one good thing is that they enjoyed their trip and want to come back again someday.  Timo said she wants to make it a yearly thing to come down.  They also inspired a lot of people to visit Hawaii, so that's good for tourism.  Fans can even try to recreate their trip.  Also, since the fan meeting was a success, they want to do it again, either here or in Japan.

Ah, an extra:  Apparently, SCANDAL had breakfast (I don't know what day.) at a restaurant that's somewhat close to my house...!  When I found that out, my face was like this the whole time reading the blogs. → Σ(゚Д゚; )
At least, Haruna finally got to eat the pancakes she wanted.  I've always wanted to try the ones she had.  Though, there are other restaurants with equally amazing pancakes, so maybe next time....

I really enjoyed Mokey Majik but yeah I agree with you, there were almost no people when we were there for EMKE and Monkey Majik until the MC decided to invite anyone who had a yellow t-shirt inside then people started piling up to get ready for Kimaguren, after SCANDAL was done I just couldnt be there any longer, I was so tired after waiting for so long and then raging hard at the LIVE that I had to leave! I even missed Kimaguren Sad

Maybe they underestimated SCANDAL's fans and that the band should have played last? Like that they could have also made an Encore as the closing band, even just one more song.

You guys shouldn't feel bad for the other band.

Hmm, I also withdrew from the crowd after SCANDAL's performance to get some refreshments 'cause I forgot to bring some water with me. Well, everyone who had the yellow shirts were welcome to come in since the beginning of the live after priority entrance holders (who are of course mostly there for the fan meeting so they're SCANDAL fans).

HaRuRiNaMaMiToMo wrote:You guys shouldn't feel bad for the other band.
 Precisely.

MICHIO87 wrote:I kind of felt bad for MONKEY MAJIK.

It's just that really most of the people in front were there for the SCANDAL fan meeting in the first place. They had a lot of fans there as well imo.

I was kind of in the front-center area of everything at the live and there were three japanese girls who eased their way from behind us to in front of us. One of them sneaked some pictures of MONKEY MAJIK and she was all teary eyed and "fan-girling"  Love  LOVE  Nose Bleed (waving to get attention etc...) over the vocalists.

Everyone japanese to my right and left was singing along to their songs. Even I was swaying to their beat. The atmosphere was not intense and high-pace but the mild light of the setting sun perfectly matched their very-singable melodies. Perfect for those couples holding hands watching the waikiki horizon. Although it was by SCANDAL's turn that the sun had set and you had that transition into the night sky.

Maybe that was something the organizers aimed from the beginning. MONKEY MAJIK for the sunset. As for Kimaguren, They would also be the better last act than SCANDAL because their songs are more "motivational/inspirational" in nature. The event is a relay foot race so....you get the point.

Racheiru's review was incredible, accurate, and probally... ditto for all of us there. So, read that.

I too was blown away by Scandal at the Hand Shake Event and stammered something to Huruna and Tomomi. By the time I got to Mami and Rina I was a emotional wreck and my mind went blank. The girls took pity on me. Rina put a lei on me and I stumbled away.

The beach concert was great and the Scandal-Heaven Members represented will. Clapping, waving, jumping and twirling t-shirts to every song. They were all dedicated to supporting Scandal and each other.

I promise to learn more Japanese and go to many more Scandal events  !! (00) !!

About 80 fans overall since we had 8 tables of about 10 each in the secret meeting

About 40-50 showed up to the bar party

I spent for 6 days:
-$830 plane ticket from Boston
-$407 fan meeting
-$160 hostel
-~$200 for extravagant food/drinks (we ate like kings)

Unrelated to SCANDAL:
-~$150 for Hawaiian activities and transportation

80 fans nice! I thought it was a bit less than that but 80 is quite a lot, great meeting!

Trip was expensive as expected but the place tickets were the most expensive part, not a surprise there. Thanks for the details, was curious about the approximate overall cost of such an amazing trip  Nice One

Wow Kaitanuva and Racheiru! I couldn't have put it in better words myself! And being your body guard was not a problem Rachel haha I think Fred and I at that point were used to being body guards.

It really was a spectacular meet. It was not only SCANDAL that made this event special but the members who attended it as well.

I was happy enough that we were able to wish Tomomi a Happy Birthday. I felt like we definitely made it a memorable trip for her as well as the rest of the gals.

I'm glad that MONKEY MAJIK had some fans there for them.  From where I was, all you could see were SCANDAL fans, and after they left, the Kimaguren fans took over.  I think SCANDAL had more fans there at the live than any of the other guests this year or last year.  That's how it seemed from my area, anyway.
I actually just missed EMKE's peformance, so I didn't see how they were.  I've seen them on TV before, so I was kinda wondering how they sounded live.

Also, since Kurei from Kimaguren is the producer for the whole music event, it made sense for his band to close the night.

Ah, I'm not sure if this is where I should post this, but I heard on the radio this morning that the interviews from the ekiden will be played next week.  Kimaguren on Monday, MONKEY MAJIK on Wednesday, and finally, SCANDAL on Friday.  They said it will be available for live streaming on KORL97.1's website and on their mobile app.  Scheduled time is around 8:15AM HST if I heard right.

@Michio87, yes you heard it right. We confirmed it with DJ Chikapin herself and she usually broadcast around 8-10am every morning.
I actually like all the bands that performed that day. I've been listening to Monkey Majik way before ekiden. Emke and Kimaguren surprised me a little bit though, I've never heard of them until I saw them live at Ekiden.

Thanks dpcarrico! Glad I was able to express at some percentage of the greatness that happened aha. I think just paying a bit more attention to Japanese will get you pretty far with understanding the gist of what happening. Nice talking and sitting next to you =)

You reminded me of yet something else I regretted Mark... Forgot to wish Tomomi a Happy Birthday personally =\
I guess you guys had your designated roles then hehe (Btw, cool sig~)
