HI all!! I wanted to get your opinion as to which guitar I should buy. I've saved enough for either a Gibson Les Paul or A fender Stratocaster. Which guitar is better??? .nerd.

For me,i'd go with a Strat,simply because it has better tone than Les Pauls.

Well, it pretty much depends on your preferences. Just check out the sound of them both and see which you like better.

sorry eugene but I have to disagree with you, different guitar models have diff sounds, they should never be compared; unless it's a strat vs strat or lp vs lp.

as for the topic, I would go for strat because it's more affordable than a Les Paul, although Im a les paul user/fanboy.

Fender Strat is better.. The pricing is better too LOL... Les Paul is also nice.. You can imitate Yui Hirasawa While playing it LOL.. (janjanjakajan!) and Les Paul is cheaper than fender.. That's my opinion..

well there is a cheaper type of les paul...i think its the epiphone les paul....

epiphone is under gibson. it's like squier and fender. it's the closest thing to gibson IMO. and with epiphone's price you can already have a fender standard strat. mexican made though.

@hessler, what's the difference with Mexican and American made ones?

american tends to be well-made than mexican. and there's this huge price diff and a bit of stuff. but yea, it's mainly the build quality.

Well, I'm no expert on guitars, but I'd go for a Gibson Les Paul Studio. It's only barely more expensive than a Fender Strat American Std. and, although I like both guitars, I'm a big Gibson fan and love the sound of that guitar, so yeah. xD If you want something more affordable though, I guess you could get a Strat mexican made, they still sound pretty good.

there's only one I know of that they produce worldwide(there might be some others but as far as I know). Bacchus guitars. but they are expensive as hell. but so pretty though, <3

fender is more versatile. but if you want a more versatile, try ibanez s series

I personally prefer strats, although if I found a Zakk Wylde Black & White Les Paul Custom I'd buy it over the strat.
In terms of quality:
Gibson - American > Mexican > Epiphone
Fender - American > Mexican > Squier

it's depend on what purpose you'll do

the guitar brands had effect on the sound.
using rosewood, usually for lead guitar. for melody
using maple, usually for rhythm guitar.

and the brands:
Gibson for rock, poprock (not to much good for jazz)
Cort for rock, poprock (not to much good for jazz)
Fender/Squire for poprock, J-pop, Jazz, blues (not to much good for rock)
Yamaha for melody.

its actually pretty easy to compare the differences btw a Strat and a LP

These are general comparisons, diff models may differ

LP - Heavy as hell
Strat - Light!

LP - sound is usually warmer, heavier and thicker
Strat - sound is twangy, bright (esp on maple fretboards)

I'd actually suggest getting a Fender Japan strat as they're much cheaper than the American/Mexican models. Problem is whether your country has it.

For Les Pauls, Epiphones actually are pretty good quality too, but still cost a tidy sum (Gibsons are crazy expensive)
