If SCANDAL had never existed in the first place, what would your life be like/how would your life differ?


For me , i don't know but before knowing the scandal and its members my life is very boring . But after i know SCANDAL its changed my life , and scandal make my life wonderful .

Then my opinion if scandal doesn't exist in this world , i'll continue to live on my boring life , and no one will make me satisfy  .wew. .

That's a difficult question especially because if they never existed you wouldn't make this thread and no one would answer =P

I guess the question is what would we do if SCANDAL stops doing music.

Well I would be very sad that's for sure, they are a part of my daily life for a year now. It started just with the music, then here reading the Heaven forums and then wanting to find more about the band and its members. I guess I could say that SCANDAL is a big ray of light in my life.

So if they stopped I would be sad but thankfully they already released a lot of CDs (over 100 songs) so I would keep listening to these. Instead of following SCANDAL I would put my time into other things a bit more. Like learning japanese ^^

It wouldn't be the end of the world so to speak, there are worse things in life than that if you think about it but yeah clearly it would make me sad for some time...  .waaa. 

The good thing is that I doubt this could happen anytime soon, as I have said in some threads they seem to be doing good, they have good sales and their company seems to like them and trust them (single 100% SCANDAL now, 3 arenas, etc).

If they had never existed, I suppose I would have found a different favorite band for now, and I would never have known what I was missing.

I feel like Scandal fills a niche that someone realized was something people liked, though, so if they hadn't done it, there would be a similar band that's popular now but with different members and maybe only a slightly different style. Scandal was formed shortly after Linda Linda Linda and right around the time K-On started, so it was almost inevitable that a real band like Scandal would rise up around that time. If it wasn't Scandal, we'd probably just be talking about whatever other band it was instead.

But obviously I'm happy it was Scandal.

Honestly speaking, if I had never known about them, I probably wouldn't have given Japanese music a chance.
But I sure am glad there's SCANDAL.

Mmm, I started listening to these girls only for a few months (in hardcore mode, 24hs a day), and I already have my podium of artists, so I would not die if they stop, but that would be sad. I'll turn around the question: "what changed in my life since I met this band?" Well, I was kind of "lost", or something (I don't know how to explain it, less in english), and this band bringed me back to my musical roots. 

I totally understand you. Scandal is the kind of band that one may [and must] worship.

If SCANDAL didn't exist, or if I haven't known them I would probably be stuck on my 90's playlist. Michelle Branch is literally the last English-speaking artist I ever cared about from the 2000's, and I lost all hope for my country's music industry. I have always been listening to Anime OSTs but I have never been curious nor made an effort to know more about the artist until I heard Shoujo S from Bleach. My appreciation for J-Rock started from there.

If they never existed, I guess I would still be shuttling back between Chinese songs and anime songs. Before that, sure I listened to a few mainstream Japanese songs, but my playlists consisted entirely of Chinese and anime songs which were on continuous playback. It was after that day close to 3 years ago where I chanced upon Haruka that I started getting more into mainstream J-Music, and realised that J-Music had an identity that I felt was lacking in so many anime music. Looking back now I had no idea why I was so immersed in anime OPs, now that J-Music in general feel so much better, in terms of both sound and image. In short, SCANDAL simply opened up a whole new genre of music that changed my view on what I like in music. Anime music has basically disappeared entirely from my life these 3 years thanks to them.

And also, without SCANDAL, my bank account probably would have had another 1000 bucks inside thanks to everything I bought. They are the first thing in my life I ever "worshipped" (can't find any other word for this) to this level, and actually even until now I sometimes still can't understand how I spent so much money on their stuff.

nahh, i make myself keep track of everything i spend on, even meals, so that I can know how much of a buffer I can give myself on other things I like, like SCANDAL for example. It's a habit I developed after I bought my first CD 2.5 years ago. But I don't regret spending like that actually. All their CDs are displayed on a shelf in my room and I never get tired of looking at that collection

If i had not of discovered scandal i would not of gave any other awesome japanese bands a chance. for instance spy air

Same with me    my first cd is overdrive and i always keep it clean .

@milkybarr , so scandal your first japanese band ?

I wouldn't have picked up the bass or drums and probably wouldn't have spent much time with my old guitar. I would have missed out a whole lot on how awesome music and the creation of music is. I wouldn't have discovered other amazing Japanese bands either! 

And I'd probably still be a hardcore SONE (fan of SNSD).

I assume your question is if Scandal had never existed and supposed there wasn't a similar band pop up.
I may just listen to Meshuggah or may be Fear Factory. That kind of bands with 7 or 8 strings low tuning guitars I was listening before discovered Scandal.

For me, I will probably still be listening to metal music only. Looking back now, I was really missing something, but of course before knowing Scandal, I didn't realize it. I was not a manga or anime fan so nothing brought me to Japan. But when I discovered Scandal (a youtube link sent by a friend) it changed everything.
About music, I've discovered new bands in both jpop and jrock. Jmusic lead me to learn about Japan in general and gave me the desire to learn the language.
And of course Scandal brought me here. I knew that my friend wasn't as fan as I was so, for not bother him, I searched if there was a website or forum about the band.

It seems like people are interpreting this topic in two different ways:

1. What would your life be like if SCANDAL wasn't around anymore?

2. If SCANDAL had never existed in the first place, what would your life be like/how would your life differ?

It seems like the OP is asking the first question, but the topic's title makes it seem he's actually asking the second question. So, I'll answer the second question.


If SCANDAL had never existed, I probably would have not started studying Japanese. I'm half-Japanese, but since I'm a Yonsei (fourth generation in the US), I unfortunately never grew up learning the language fluently; I only knew a few words and phrases. After I had discovered SCANDAL, I found myself wanting to learn the Japanese language and started taking classes shortly thereafter.

And more on the sappy side: If SCANDAL had never existed, I would have never met my amazing boyfriend.

If SCANDAL had never existed, I would probably never had my general interest in music rekindled (I was really cynical about the state of contemporary music at the time), would never have bought guitars (and a bass, on impulse ) and related gear, would never have started jamming and would never have learnt how to do some of the stuff I can do on guitar right now.

I would've still ended up studying Japanese (I did this for a personal challenge) but without SCANDAL I probably wouldn't enjoy it as much. And without the girls and their blog posts and interview videos, I wouldn't have learnt as much within the same time period.

If SCANDAL didn't exist in the first place, I'd never would have picked up the guitar... ever again. I was once deeply frustrated of playing guitar that I stopped.

Also, I would have been stuck around anime songs (just like metalleo), plus some songs in my country (no, not the popular ones), English songs in the 90's (just like LieAnn) and a few songs that may catch my interests. I would have a boring music life, or maybe my life would have been boring in general.

And yeah, they are the first band that I "worshipped", because they don't only provide great music, but they also inspired me a lot, in more ways aside from music. There are a lot of artists that provide great music, but I don't feel any inspiration.

Plus, if SCANDAL never existed, this forum wouldn't have existed and I wouldn't have met such great people (okay... now I'm getting sappy).  .pinch.

If SCANDAL never existed, I'll probably listen to other all-female bands. Heck, I only got into SCANDAL when MARIA was also around & both debuted around the same time. It's undeniable though the reason they are this popular is because they are also trendsetters with their fashion (Haruna even said it in a Singapore interview). Also most of their songs are made by other more experienced artists too. I'm quite glad that MAMI's song "Departure" was charted & the girls are slowly growing.

If they disbanded, which I don't think it would be for a long while, given how all of them are truly in sync with each other, I'll still randomly listen to their hits. I'll be sad of course but that's life of moving on. I was too young to understand when Princess Princess disbanded so I have a faint memory about them (though I think I was into other bands like Judy And Mary & Luna Sea those times). I remember ZONE & MARIA disbanded, I was really sad & wished I was in their final concerts. I'll probably go to SCANDAL's final concert if that happens.

If the band never existed, five things that would have happened to me:

1. My playlist will only be filled with songs from 2005 and before. Mostly Japanese songs, though, so I don't think it would affect my interest with Japanese-related stuff at all.

2. My back account would have a little more money. Same reason as what Metalleo said.

3. I would never be so eager to try to unlock my left-right hand-feet coordination needed to play drums. Guess what, my favorite member says it all   

4. Pretty much the same as Anchiel too, I would've stopped touching my guitar forever.

5. This forum would never exist and I wouldn't be sitting in front of my computer right now typing all this.
