TOMOMI (SCANDAL)

| Fender Made In Japan Memories

JB75-US
A Jazz bass with a sunburst design.
This bass was loaned to me by a teacher who encouraged us to take up instruments when we were attending dance school. When we moved to Tokyo, the teacher, who was really cool, said, 「I'll let you have it」. I currently use it when I'm practicing at home, but the frets are wearing down. It's about time I take it in for maintenance.

| What does Fender MIJ mean to you?

A hope chest for this world.

I still have my Fender Jazz bass Tomomi, a 1962 model and I too would have been happy to lend it to you Happy

Nice Tomo comments and picture (like the strap, too). @tonymiller, that's great you still have your bass. It's nice to think of all the memories that come through an instrument. I still have my made in Japan Ibanez Blazer. It is heavy, but plays very well and it was very well made. Great guitars are made in so many places these days, somehow it's nice to think of music and instrument making as a worldwide thing linking us together.

@mbowie4321

I also have a Hofner Violin bass, nobody wanted one until Paul McCartney started playing one and even Tomomi played one once.
It would have been ideal for her, small and light and she would be able to jump even higher.

"What does MIJ means to you?"

For me - cheaper version of US Fenders but with pretty high quality! My version of MAMI's 64 Tele and "Sticker" Strat are both MIJ's (a 62 Tele reish and a 60s strat), and I love em to bits.

Yes, very high quality instruments. Isn't that why Fender Japan got going 'cause by the '70's the quality of the copies was so good Fender thought we'd better hire those companies to make our stuff.

There's a great site for funkier '60's Japanese guitars like Teisco. http://markcolemusic.com/teisco/
