Seeing that Scandal is about to release their 10th studio album, I thought it would be interesting to look into what some classic rock artists had released as their 10th studio album as if to get an idea what could be expected (or not expected).

No live releases or compilations were included as part of the 10th album factoring.  This is because Scandal does not consider "Encore" nor any of their live DVDs (the last two came with CDs) as official album releases.

Since Scandal is primarily known as a rock band, I tried to choose familiar and successful artists in the rock genre without going too far into the edges.

For solo performers that were previously in bands, I only included the solo output.

What I find most interesting about this list is that unlike Scandal, most of these bands and solo artists did not record their 10th album with their original lineup or original backing band.

Those that did are marked with an asterisk (*); and those that did so without any breakups in their lineup have two asterisks.

The second aspect that is interesting to me, and this is a personal feeling, is that very few of these albums would be considered in any of these artists' "Best Of" lists.  Even with a vague familiarity of some of these bands, I'm sure you can spot the winners.  If you are familiar with the bands, then you will definitely know where they got too experimental and went off the rails completely.

Also, there are a lot of iconic bands that never released, or officially recorded and released a 10th studio record (ex. Led Zeppelin, The Police, CCR, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, The Black Crowes, Dave Matthews to name a small few).

Spoiler:

Well, my top list goes with The Beatles WHITE ALBUM, the brilliant PET SOUNDS by the Beach Boys, although it's not their tenth album. Also Rolling Stones BEGGARS BANQUET.

U2's ALL THAT YOU LEAVE BEHIND is a good album, and a nope to the Green Day and RHCP ones imo. I wonder which bands of this whole list SCANDAL is familiar with.

Also, how many girl bands made it to the 10th album besides SHOW-YA? I presume SCANDAL is the fastest to reach this milestone.

As the girls said, they're entering unknown territory.

When I was at school ( a LONG time ago ) you had to like The Beatles or the Rolling Stones and I liked the Stones, their 10th album was 'Beggars Banquet' which I thought was pretty good.

I have nineteen (19) albums by all-girl band Noodles. This link

brings up MV from (I believe) their tenth studio album "Ivy"—that was 2005.
They formed in 1993 and although one of the four dropped out after ten years, the other three were still performing as of 2019 I think.

Yes, I was going to mention noodles. Actually 'Ivy' was the 5th album by my count, 'Funtime' from 2010 was 10th...and imho almost their best one. Although if I really had to pick one, their most recent album, 'I'm Not Chic' from 2019 might almost get the nod, it's a killer album [I can't think of any other band at all who I would say that about...like, they are still getting better after 28 years!]
btw, noodles are probably my favourite band of all time...bar none. Also they're still going, I wouldn't be surprised to see a new album soon... only two original members left now, Yoko and Ikuno, but that's fine.

The only other Japanese girl bands I know of who lasted anywhere near this long are Shonen Knife and The 5,6,7,8's...neither of which are my cup of tea though [we actually played a support gig with The 5,6,7,8's once...I think it was about 1992 or something...I can't remember much about it to be honest]

The only one I can think of outside Japan is Girlschool in the UK...still going I think, since about 1979 or something, but only a couple of original members now.
I'm sure there are probably others, but I can't think of any really.

Getting back to the 10th SCANDAL album etc, it's also interesting to think of the actual time frame...like what were The Stones doing after 15 years? As far as I'm concerned they'd basically lost it well and truly by then...although Some Girls was a bit of a return to form for them in 1978 I suppose. After that, forget it Happy
And talking about say, Girlschool, forget anything after the first 3 albums really Happy

@Don Dio...this is an interesting topic, I've thought about this before Happy
From your list the only things there that I really like [a lot of them I don't know] would be
Rolling Stones - Beggar's Banquet
The Beatles - The White Album
The Kinks - Muswell Hillbillies
Rod Stewart - Foolish Behaviour isn't too bad either Happy

Yeh, plumb forgot about Shonen Knife... but kinda doesn't count for me because of Naoko being the only steady member, with others coming and going through the years. So happy to hear from another strong admirer of noodles music! (obviously there aren't that many of us) —though that band is dominated by Yoko in a way that's totally different from the way SCANDAL works.
Amazing how bands will morph ahead while switching most or even all personnel. Of course that goes back well before pop/rock and the recording of studio albums, where session musicians and engineers help develop the vibe that marks a particular album.

How strange, I have been into Japanese music since the 80's but I have never even heard of Noodles, even wikipedia does not know much about them !

Amazing how SCANDAL have kept the same line up all this time though, they must really get on well.
I was thinking of one of our groups in the UK Hawkwind, they joke that every musician in the country has been in that group at sometime, the names cover a whole page in wikipedia Happy

Yes and when you try to search for them on YT or something you get all these noodles recipes and so on Happy
It was actually through noodles that I discovered SCANDAL...watching some noodles clip on YT, and there was Space Ranger video in the suggested videos on the right.
