Thanks Belz !
It says elaborate hairstyles and flamboyant costumes often combined with andrognous aesthetics !
So Scandal are definitly not a Visual kei band, they look 100% female
to me !

Right. Onmyouza is a visual kei band, for instance, though I'm not sure about androgynous. Same for X Japan, I believe.

Oh no !!!
But even though I now know that Tissue Hime the amazing bass player
is really a guy I still think he has nice legs !

I have this same problem man.. Even though I know that Hizaki of Versailles IS a guy, I find him/her cute! .mad. It's so f*ckin' messed up.. He/she just acts and moves like a woman. (Well, at least on lives..)

This Visual Kei thing messes up people..(Wether in a good or bad way..) But I guess its cool.. And I'm NEVER gonna like a guy in the real world, that's for sure.. .hot.

hahah what about SID? I'll admit the lead singer Mao has a lovely kind of androgyny to him, but the other members just make interesting fashion choices. Back when they were "more" of a Visual Kei band (with the makeup wearing, excessive accessories) -- lol in their indies days! -- they had a more edgy feel to them, I think. I don't necessarily prefer it, but at the same time, you really feel it when they lose themselves in their really old, high energy songs. Not complaining (I actually prefer this more) but it's interesting to see where bands end up a few years down the track...

Whatever you do in life completely influences the way you see things -- how you were brought up, went to school and end up working can influence your values... it's just the majority of people happen to be socialised in a similar way on a large scale, so it forms what we generalise as 'normality' ... when really, everything is relative. XD

Do you think Visual Kei bands have a kind of thematic concern?

It's okay, almost like EVERYONE thinks he's cute and pretty. It's not weird. XD

Hmmm, I think I prefer AYABIE's Yumehito over SID's Mao. Yumehito looks... Hotter and girlier. XD

Thematic concern?

Yeah ... like how RnB artists have common ... ideas. LOL if you heard the lyrics, you'd think, "hmmm... sounds like it's RnB."

Or pop songs have a lighter feel to them. Perhaps a more accurate question is, if you read the lyrics of a Visual Kei song, would you be able to pick it as a Visual Kei song? XD Perhaps music works differently in Japan, though ... or I'm not familiar enough with the language and different music genres to tell...

as mr. wiki says.. V-Kei is more of a movement.. just like punk, but they differ in that punk is much more defined as a musical genre while V-Kei has varying and even contrasting genres.. But, there are common points that you can say that a band is V-Kei.. Lets see.. I'm thinking make-up, flamboyant styles, androgynous get ups or crossdressing, and speaking of the sound, more metal-ish or punk-ish..

I don't think you would. I mean, you have Versailles who sings songs with a real aristocrat feel. I dunno how to explain it. But then you have stuff that NIGHTMARE sings like Melody that's about the how someone's life is.
