Well, I can't find a thread on this group so here goes:

Onmyouza is a Japanese heavy-metal band, but don't let that fool you. Their sound is a very old-school heavy metal one, and they have a lot of variety in their songs. I discovered them because they made the theme music of a Japanese anime series called Basilisk (a pretty good anime, by the way). The band is based, song and looks, on old Japanese folklore.

The complexity of the composition and quality of the musicians and vocalists is amazing, to me, and the presentation is very theatrical. They display a lot of energy on stage and interact with the crowd as much as possible.Whether or not you like the music, I don't think you can find fault in their technical or artistic aspects.

Members stage names:
- Kuroneko: Lead vocals
- Matatabi: Bass and lead vocals, lead composer
- Maneki: Lead guitar and chorus
- Karukan: Lead guitar and chorus

Hi Belz

This time I agree with you 200%

I adore 'Onmyouza', on the way home from work I was playing "Konga Ninpouchou"
( Live version ) very loudly !

They remind me a little of 'Iron Maiden' silly though that may sound !

I'm not old, but the band looks cool (^w^)

Not that I've become a fan of them after watching your post, but the energy and tension are pretty intense, and I kinda like that.

What got me is not only the talent of the musicians, but Kuroneko's (the girl's) amazing voice. She has so much power and control.

I just found a cover version by 'Onmyouza' of 'Iron Maiden's "The Trooper"
on Youtube !

Imagine Kuroneko and Bruce Dickinson singing together !!!

They've announced a new album for 2011. Can't wait to see what the cover will look like, or what lavish kimonos they'll be wearing on the photo booklet.

The new album is named Kishi-Bojin, which is the name of a goddess protecting women. It's said to be a "story album". I'm not sure what that means, exactly, but it sounds exciting. It's slated for "winter 2011" so probably December.

Here's another sample, for those who like the harder side of the group:
