Studio Ghibli
Hey guys, I used the search bar to see if a topic had been made but didn't see anything.
I think this is the appropriate place to put it. So let's start!
What studio Ghibli movies have you guys watched? (Anything produced or directed by Studio Ghibli counts.) Which ones are your favorite? Maybe if you haven't watched any studio Ghibli movies, you could get recommendations here!
Top of my list is, of course, Totoro!! Proper title: My Neighbor Totoro (1988).
One of the best ones I've seen is also Howl's Moving Castle (2004). Man! What a great movie :D
I have yet to see Ponyo but I want to. I've also seen Spirited Away, Kiki's Delivery Service, and I saw part of Princess Mononoke. I hope to finish it soon ><

Spirited Away is a very good one.
They did the whole theme of growing into adulthood very well.
I've heard it's also a critical commentary on modern Japanese society.

Spirited Away (2001), Tonari No Totoro (1988), Mononoke Hime (1997)..
The good ones is definitely Spirited Away..Yup, it's a critical movie to Japanese modern society. Such as polluted river represented by No Face character, etc..Great movie! No wonder it won Oscar for Best Animated Feature in 2002..

@JayPub it's definitly worth it! How far did you watch? I love the tree spirits there, they are so cute and funny and strange
I just remembered that I also watched Nausicaä, it was a bit strange, but also good! I just didn't like the big insects that much, though they were nice monsters.

@darksteel - Haha, that's something I agree on
It's hard not to like the other movies.
@Tomami - If I remember correctly, I only got about 20 minutes in when they're firing at a wolf or something.

Totoro, KiKi's Delivery Service, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Howls moving castle, and Ponyo. Can't wait to see The Secret World of Arrietty this coming weekend. I personally like Princess Mononoke but no way would I let my little niece or nephew see it. Ponyo is a cute story for them that isn't violent same for totoro or Kiki's delivery service.

Re: Studio Ghibli
The first movie that i saw was "umi ga kikoeru"
I really cry in the end,cuz for me was a really emotive storie
Last year I saw kaze no tani no nausica(a great masterppiece) and KiKi's Delivery Service
Finally,i think hayao miyazaki is the best in the animation(with the director of Studio gainax)

Re: Studio Ghibli
Fantastic movie! The english dub was impressive and was better than I was expecting! The soundtrack, even though in english was great as well! I loved the fact that everything that wasnt "animated" in the scene was actually a painting! Absolutely amazing! I thought it was funny how some people with their kids were saying "this movie blows!", Studio Ghibli is not famous for making movies for children! After exiting the room I found a large number of 16-22 aged young adults that were discussing the movie and found it brilliant, same as me. Really recommend it!

Re: Studio Ghibli
@Eri - Castle in the Sky is a good one! ^^
@Noodles - Haha, I was *just* discussing that with a friend of mine. I commented saying that most Studio Ghibli movies aren't for children (with the exception of Totoro of course) because they wouldn't get the messages from the movies.
I'm so glad you liked The Secret World of Arrietty. That means I should have no problem with it! The only worry I had was the dub because David Henry (is that his name?) sounded a bit forced from the scenes I heard.
I'd like to see both English and Japanese versions. I usually do that with all of them.
Hope I can see it today :D
