I think this is an issue that must be taken seriously on this forum. There should be a rule that if users of SH are to upload a file, it must be to a non-profit file host. We already don't allow people to sell things here, and we should not allow those file hosts as this is unfairly making money off people on the forums.

Also please use file hosts that are accessible by everybody, a lot of file hosts have blocked US ip addresses from accessing due to the recent incidents.

Anybody who posts a link to a file host that pays money to the uploaded should be warned or banned. Of course standard rules apply, official releases are not allowed to be posted and all, but I think this should be something additional on top of that.

I don't think anyone here has a partnership with any file host.

Because of those recent incidents, I don't think there is a reliable file host that will pay out to any of their users anymore. Even if they did, it depends on the file size and how many hits (usually minimum of 1000 unique), before they even see a penny in their account.

The only file host sites that I know of that are reliable to this day are mediafire and rapidshare.

What I meant are certain file hosts that pay out, as long as there are people downloading (uploaded.to does AFAIK). I just don't think it is fair to make money off people on SH, that's why some file host sites should be banned here.

And I agree on using MediaFire.

I have posted links on this site from 2010 with links still active (on mediafire). Those have barely hit 200 hits, while one big project I did here got 400 hits maximum.

All I'm saying is that I don't think any files here will reach 1000 downloads.

If we transfer my statistics from mediafire to that site you just posted, I'd make 0 euros, and it's been a year since those links have been active (not to mention 0 activity as of late).

Just saying, and only the uploader can view the download statistics. This really depends on the type of media (some like videos tend to generate more downloads), and a Mediafire link I posted here has over 1k downloads and it has only been around for 2 months. So we can't really know whether they are making money off of it or not.

Sticking with Mediafire is a safe bet since there are no payouts to be obtained from it.

In addition to this, do not post urls from url masking sites, because that is obviously trying to make money off of it. url masking sites pay people when visitors go through that link to download.
