first of all, i really think mami is a great guitarist. even though i really listen to the legends like Jimmy Page (BTW he's my favorite), jimi hendrix, eric clapton,etc.. i think mami won't line with those guys,BUT, she will be included in one of the famous....(in asia)
.clap.
my answer to my own question(hehehe).... i think it is not about being enough...as long as the passion is in there, mami won't let us down.

to tell you the truth, i'm from the Philippines, and there is this freaking band called akalalily, popularly known(daw) as callalily... the riffs of their song,,, is a big L.A.M.E .bleh. ... compared to mami, there former guitarist won't stand a chance...

hearing almost all of SCANDAL songs, though some maybe co-written with other song writers. i think mami's riffs is appropriate to their style of music....

but who cares... mami's cute and pretty kind of punk, that is what makes her special to us.... .balloon.

I somewhat agree with you. Bands here like Green Day have really simple instrumental parts, but we like them anyways because overall they sound good because it seems as though they're passionate about what they do.

Well, if you really think about it, Mami is pretty talented for a girl only started playing guitar when she joined SCANDAL. Actually, all of them started with no knowledge at all of the instruments they're playing now and that's what made them more amazing!! Mami is great right now and I'm sure will be greater in the future! I always brag to my friends that Mami is better than those male lead guitarist out there. Hehehe

Yes, Mami is pretty amazing considering how new a guitarist she really is, and I imagine her skills will continue to improve. In the end what matters is that her fans like her guitarplay, that the rest of SCANDAL is happy with her, and that she herself feels good about it.

As for me, I happily listen to her because I like her and the way she sounds (both her guitar and her voice actually), and I really don't care if there are other guitarists with more experience or skill, but who don't necessarily play in a way I like. So, yes, her guitar skills are enough. Mami all the way!

Onion Love Love Mami and SCANDAL!

Among other things, I listen to a lot of pop punk/power pop so I always believe that a guitarist doesn't neccessarily have to be fast or technical to be good. A lot of bands I listen to don't have Steve Vai or John Petrucci or Marty Friedman playing for them and yet they are still awesome (GREENDAY!, NFG!).

Mami isn't the "best" guitarist I've seen, not even amongst the girls, but she is still one of my favourites. I appreciate that she tries hard, isn't afraid to take risks and is a fast learner. And yes, I'm impressed by the fact that she started out knowing absolutely nothing.

If any of you guys have tried playing along to Roppingi Shinju or Koibito Ga Santa Claus or heck, Hello! Hello! you'd see just how far she's come in the four plus years since she started playing. Her skills currently are more than good enough for the music that they do and she's getting better and better everyday. Maybe one day she will be able to shred for real! Here's to hoping..

MAMI FTW!

Always there are people more skillful. But I like Mami because she always feels the music while playing guitar and singing.
Although there are people that think Mami isn't enough good at playing guitar I sure that she will surprise those people soon

Mami is working very hard to do her best.
well, that's what I think.

In all honesty, as what others have mentioned, she's not like Jimi Hendrix, but is full of passion at what she does. I do agree with that. I find it very impressive that she even learned fast, and is currently improving. Who knows, sooner or later she'll be doing monstrous riffs that will blow our brains out! Until that day, MAMI I will keep on listening. TOJ Onion

As far as her guitar melodies go, they are awesome, are fun to play, and also more recently have become more challenging with the R-Girls Rock Album.

I like how she can play melodies/leads AND sing backing vocals at the same time during lives (I remember seeing this during a live version of Shoujo's).

Although sometimes she can err during her live solo's, but nobody is perfect >.<.
I'm sure she'll become much better during live solo's as she matures with confidence and becomes better at guitar.

Still an awesome talent, i mean seriously how many people can sing, dance and play guitar live without losing their beat?

LOL, I wonder what MAMI would say if she heard Bruno Mars' song "Just the way you are", while we talk about this topic. Ah...If I could sing that to her... LOVE

Unlike Haruna she seems to have some guitar skills. I have nothing against Haru just as far as I can see she can't play the guitar at all. xD
But Mami, well, she seems to be pretty good.

I think she's pretty amazing, to play like that in four years, yes i have seen a few err like some mention in the early days, but in latest lives performances she is really neat.
She's a hard worker and she's getting better every day.

Everyone has to start from zero in whatever they do. And learning is the most important, cuz there is no end to improvement. So I look at it like this:

For those who feel Mami is already fantastic, she will just become better and better. Ho Onion

For those who feel she still lacks something, she will eventually fill in the gap with lots of hardwork and passion. And become better and better. Thumbs Onion

My job is simple: Keep giving Scandal the fan support they need (^w^)

Yeah!!

I agree, Mami's style fits SCANDAL. She's very good imo, it's just she sometimes makes mistakes due to (I think) nervousness in live perfs Tongue But anyway, she ahs something that not all guitarist's have - heart. Each note and chord is played with passion, which is what defines music. Mami! <3

Many of you guys bring up the fact that Mami only learned how to play guitar just four years ago (during their vocal school days). That goes to the other members as well with their respective instruments. What we are seeing now is their continuous growth, both individually and as a group. Yes, there might be some mistakes. And yes, some of our expectations ("great guitarist") might not have been met just yet. But Mami's getting there. They all are getting there. And that's all because of some good old-fashioned "hard work and dedication".

While I may not be a musician in every sense of the word, I believe that in music (heck, even in life), people never stop learning. This is why I think music keeps evolving; musicians try out new things. The same goes with Mami and the band. They've come a very long way now. And they've "stepped up their game", so to speak. We can expect nothing less from them than their very best. Because that's all they have given us from the very beginning. :)

Great song or great player not based on the skill.
Its based on "put the soul" for music or not.

And MAMI, as i always see.
She really enjoy herself when playing her guitar.
as time goes by, i believe she will get better and better.
Even tho she's already great at present Nice one

Hold on what? Scandal have only been playing their instruments for four years?
*mind blown*
If that is true, that is incredible that they can become one of the top bands in Japan with only four years of instrumental experience!
Even i've only played guitar for four years.

Yeah.. she's good enough, more than good enough (4 years only? Wow!).. True, you CAN'T compare her to the likes of Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, etc. cause they have different styles. Mami is a good guitarist.. not only her, the whole band. As a musician, I'm amazed on how they compose their melodies, chords, and riffs. It's simple but wonderful =)

anyway.. Callalily << EWWWW .bleh. hahaha.

I saw some videos of them performing and MAMI seems serious on the guitar and put in a lot of effort. She's Good, even if she isn't a highly skilled guitarist like others. But you can also see she puts alot of passion in it, it's very admirable, really and will get better with time, practice and experience.

Actually, it's pretty obvious that Mami's skills have improved. Songs from their first album was much less riff-heavy while the recent R-Girl's Rock album had Mami making delicious licks and riffs in three songs (Rock and Roll Widow, Koibito ga Santa Claus, and Roppongi Shinjuu).
