The good ol' OCD is back!

It seems that Haruna is cutting the size of her pedal board since she already uses two totally different tube amps. I believe that the Fuzz Factory is meant as a treble booster (like Eric Clapton did with John Mayall's Bluesbreakers in the 60s) for their songs such as the brand new Suki-Suki and Shoujo S 2016 version.

A bit off-topic about the Rockett Pedals ARCHER Ikon, it is the more affordable clone of the now legendary and ridiculously expensive Klon Centaur.

Actually, HARU's OCD never disappeared from her signal chain. Hook Up, Inc did a series of photos from the HELLO WORLD Hall Tour in Japan last year on their FB page and this was HARU's set up then:

Looks like the Holy Fire pedal is out in her current set up.

PS: Yeah. I love the OCD - actually it sounds more like a distortion pedal than a subtle OD (think of the TS-9 for example). Dang... this post has woken up the GAS beast in me now...

Lexian: since you have updated the pinned post, I think you can take off the photo of her old pedal board now (the one from the magazine) CANTA Thumbs

Sorry on going a tad OCD here - you need to add that HARU still uses her SHINOS Luck amp.

The photo of the two amps only has the EVH described in the caption.

I did a search on the SHINOS earlier in this thread if you need the important bits for a description:

From the previous post, there were two Yamahas. Looked like the one HARU used was the LS. Rough iPhone shot from a Nov 2015 article on Go!Go!GUITAR:

The L series (L='luxury') is pretty much top of the range. The ARE stands for:

Spoiler:
A.R.E. (Acoustic Resonance Enhancement) is an original wood reforming technology developed by Yamaha. Through precise controll of temperature, humidity, and atmospheric pressure, the molecular properties of the wood can be manipulated into a more acoustically ideal condition, similar to the molecular characteristics of woods in instruments that have been played for years.

Specs:

Spoiler:

Top: Solid Engelmann Spruce A.R.E.
Back: Solid Indian Rosewood
Side: Solid Indian Rosewood
Neck: Mahogany & Rosewood 5ply + Neck Volute + Rosewood Veneer On Back Of Headstock
Fingerboard: Ebony
Body Depth: 100-120 mm (3 15/16"-4 3/4")
Nut Width: 44 mm (1 3/4")
String Length: 650 mm (25 9/16")
Body: Small Body Type
Tuners: Die-cast Gold (SG-301-Y22)
Color: Natural
Finish: Nitrocellulose Lacquer
Standard Accessory: Hardshell Case

@kudo_maharizu: Thanks for the great info! I have heard that those lovely Yamaha LS36 guitars are still being handcrafted in Japan. Unlike, LS6 and LS16 which I am saving up for which are made in either in China or Taiwan. But, they still go through the laborious Yamaha quality control. It's a great alternative for Martins and Taylors.

HARU's additional gear on YELLOW as described in the main SCANDAL article in the April 2016 issue of GiGS.

For the recording of LOVE, HARU used an Electro Voice RE20 dynamic cardioid mic.

Amp-wise, she used a tweed '59 Fender Bassman 4x10" on both LOVE and SUKI-SUKI.

A year since the last post, eh.

Anyways, noticed this in RINA's Instagram Story this morning over breakfast:

Then, it occurred to me to check the natalie.mu/ photos from Kumamoto, and yes there it was again:

It appears that MAMI's not the only person with new gear this tour. It seems that HARU may have included a Fender American Professional Series Telecaster Deluxe Shawbucker.

http://shop.fender.com/en-GB/electric-guitars/telecaster/american-professional-telecaster-deluxe-shawbucker/0113082721.html

MAMI and HARU were featured recently in Fender Japan's Your Step Up Story (Vol6) where HARU was playing the same guitar:

Will watch this space, too.

I'm curious, where in terms of technicals does this shawbucker differ from HARU's thinline deluxe?

I personally don't but when I first read about it online, Tim Shaw's been a Fender employee who happens to be a pickup expert.

Check this article out from Fender:

http://www2.fender.com/experience/fender-tone/fender-introduces-new-shawbucker-pickups/

I think of pickups like food, and these pickup experts as being chefs, I guess. Everyone's got their own take on how to make a pickup type eg Seymour Duncan has his, Abigail Ybarra has hers - may it be from the number of winds, material for the bobbin etc. I guess Tim Shaw's got his.

Therefore, on the American Pro Series Tele Deluxe, that's Tim's take on the split humbucking pups.

Here's what I found on YouTube if you wanna listen to the tone of this Tele:

It's not a hollowbody, for one thing. I've always felt like that's why she plays the Thinline; she busts it out in the middle of shows and it's a lot lighter than her other Teles.

As for the pickups, I really doubt it's much more than marketing. I notice they're not even calling them "wide ranging humbucking pickups" anymore, which is what they called their previous modern split HB pickups, to try to align them with the real ones they made in the 70's. But none of the modern ones bears any relation to those; they're just Gibson style humbuckers. These are probably the same, with some tweaks.

I don't really think Haruna cares what kind of humbuckers she has as long as they're humbuckers. Judging from the video posted, she probably has this guitar to match colors with Mami.

I also think this must be part of some kind of marketing deal with Fender... the video above is from what looks like a launch event for the Fender American Professional series (this is a new series Fender is promoting) and Haruna's Tele even still has the sticker on it, like they just gave it to her.

Some updates on HARU's gear at the SCABEST47 tour, courtesy of the Sept 2017 ish of GiGS.

As alluded in the IG photos during the tour back in March ( http://www.scandal-heaven.com/t8879p75-haruna-s-gear#748167 ), included in her arsenal is this Fender American Professional Series Telecaster Deluxe (her other guitars on this tour were her Skullsilver and the black/white Tele Thinline Deluxe). The caption in the mag described that HARU used this on Stamp!, DOLL, Flashback No.5 and ESY.

As for her pedals, they were the same on this tour as it was in 2016:

Again looking at Google Translate in context - I tried to form the gist of (what I think) HARU is saying about her new Tele. She chose a look that is both current and long-lasting (MAMI seems to say the same thing - about wanting to be able to use her guitar for a long time, which is a good thing considering these customised babies don't come cheap). The finish is in white with gold binding and hardware - pickguard, pickup plate and tuning pegs. With more of SCANDAL's songs having to switch between clean and crunch tones, she opted for more power in this guitar (note the hot rails at the bridge).

Unfortunately, even with the scan, I cannot make out the make of her bridge pup - although the whitish tinge on the left of the pickup may well mean it's a DiMarzio (the ones they do for the Tele are the Chopper, Fast Track, Super Distortion and Tone Zone). This bit is mere speculation, though.

Translation:

Putting an emphasis on appearance, I thought that a design that suits my current age and a guitar that I can use for a long time would be best. Since I have many guitars with dark-colored bodies, I made the body white and made parts such as the edges, tuning pegs, and pickups gold to bring out a sense of quality. Sounds don't rely on power, and I emphasized that aspect because we've had an increase in songs that are played with clean/crunchy sounds.

From the look of the guitar, I will assume Haru's new axe take reference and shares several features with the Ritchie Kotchen's signature telecaster. That means the PUs are very possibly DiMarzio Chopper and Twang King. Well that is just my speculation.
Sure Haru will find the block style saddles comfortable especially during fast paced palm mutted power chords!
