SCANDAL's Musical Influences/Preferences

I'd like to know if anyone knows what artists each member listens to (including international artists). And as well as their influences and associated acts as a band.

I'm also curious if any one of them also listen to bands like ONE OK ROCK, or UPLIFT SPICE (local). The only thing I remember hearing them say about American bands is listening to The Jonas Brothers (Haru) and Red Hot Chilli Peppers (Tomo) in the AM2 panel interview. I didn't get Mami's and Rina's.

Thanks.

PS: I really have to say this... SCANDAL x UPLIFT SPICE = I don't event wanna say it.

Tomo on bass/vocs, Chiori on vocs, Mami & U-Key on guitars, and Tobita on drums, a Super-group on a collaborative effort for an anime OST or something. That'd be the day. Oh yeah!

Hmmm... I remember reading that Mami likes The Strokes and Rina listens to Taylor Swift. Sounds odd but I get it because Taylor writes her own material and composes like Rina does.

I agree, that is kind of odd. I'm looking for instances where the bands that they listen to come in their music. Like spotting a Jonas Brothers or a Taylor Swift sound in their music. RHCP and The Strokes are pretty reasonable, though. I can definitely hear some minute influences in their music.

Thanks for the input. Any more infos, anyone?

Stereopony and Oreskaband are great, by the way. Gives me a good picture from what kind of musical environment SCANDAL came from, they're definitely sound cousins!

Tomomi listens to the RHCP(I think Mami does too).
Someone asked about their favorite artists at the AM2 convention, maybe you could go through that thread(too tired right now):

Yeah, I stumbled upon Maximum The Hormone one day, though at first I was confused whether the drummer was a boy or a girl. I've listened to a few tracks of theirs and, like everyone here, I thought the music was just amazing. I haven't expected such music coming from Japan. I would definitely love to hear MTH in Rina's drumming style in the future.

I read in the AM2 thread that she has yet to learn how to play double pedals. And I hope she's starting to work on it, because I think having wicked sixteenth kick notes all over SCANDALS music (specially in the "nu-metalish" breakdown of Love Survive) could really add more of that rock feel to their music. She wouldn't have to worry about her skirts anymore since the school girl outfit is out - plus it's a really rare thing to see girls on double pedals in the mainstream music industry.

Don't forget to grab a mighty headset and don't forget to turn it up really loud. You'll be surprised with Rina when it comes to the diversity of the music that she listens to. :-D

Also,do not forget that Timo listens to Nirvana as well, besides Red Hot Chili Peppers!

I've only got two songs on my playlist by Nirvana (Smells Like Teen Spirit and Heart-Shaped Box) but they're an awesome band!Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters used to be Nirvana's drummer before Kurt Cobain passed away.

Anyways,i really like the music Timo and RINA listens to.It's very, very close to mine.

HARU's is a little debatable, but hey, everyone has their own preferences.'s long as she rock out,i dun really mind if she listens to Jonas Brothers and Justin Bieber....

's long as i dun hear it.

Hi all..
I'm new to this forum, and new fans of scandals, just know them for the last 3 weeks Happy

If I'm not mistaken, they said somewhere that they watch SUM41 live DVD's at first, and that is what inspiring them to be a rock band.
Also they listen to Avril Lavigne songs, if you listen some of their songs, it's influenced by her music a bit :D

They said that international artist that they want to work together with is Avril Lavigne and Green Day

Nobody has mentioned the American band 'Kiss' yet.
In an interview with Scandal in the 2010 book 'Japanese schoolgirl confidential' by Brian Ashcraft and Shoko Ueda, Haruna says they went out and rented loads of 'Kiss' videos so they could learn how to perform on stage, but luckily they passed on the face paint !

At one of the M&G's they said they watched SUM41's DVDs to learn how to get the crowd pumped up.

At the AM2 panel someone asked if they listened to k-pop and what their favorites were, I thought one of them was KARA, although now that I look for the videos that question is cut from the clips I have for some reason.

So in addition to the international bands, Sum 41, Avril Lavigne, Green Day, Nirvana, and KISS.

Maximum The Hormone for Japan.

The Rasmus, KARA, and let's not forget Girls' Generation for non-Japan/International music.

Nice! Imagine if it was SCANDAL who were in the "Still Waiting" music video instead of Sum 41 - with bashing all the instruments and trashing the set at the end of the video. Haha!

I have yet to see them try the pyroclastic stuff KISS has going on. It's a good thing they didn't adopt the facial make-up though. Whew! I wouldn't be here if that happened.

So, here's the list so far

WESTERN ARTISTS
  • Jonas Brothers
    Michael Jackson
    Justin Beiber
    Taylor Swift
    Red Hot Chili Peppers
    The Strokes
    Sum 41
    Avril Lavigne
    Nirvana
    KISS
    Green Day

JAPANESE
  • Steropony
    Oreskaband
    Zone
    Maximum The Hormone

INTERNATIONAL
  • KARA
    The Rasmus
    Girls' Generation

Still waiting for my favorite bands to come out. *drats!*

Keep 'em coming!

Tony, you've just confirmed something that I have believed for quite some time. When I first discovered SCANDAL I thought to myself "These ladies have watched KISS videos at some point in their musical career".
They understood that it's not just music... It's marketing too... 4 men from NYC wearing spandex and facepaint is a "gimmick" no different than 4 Japanese girls in uniforms. The result... You remember them.

So no one has made the AC/DC connection yet? They use a sample of an AC/DC song in Shoujo S. And the kind of adopted The lead guitarist Angus's method of stomping around when they play. .chesttap.
They are originally from Australia. But had a huge career in the US. Rock on

Yes. I think it's from the AC/DC song Money Talks but I haven't listened to AC/DC for so long that I'd have to check. But it's definitely AC/DC which I think is pretty cool.

Just got done watching some AC/DC videos on YouTube. Its the song "You Shook Me All Night Long" that Scandal sampled. Its sound pretty good as part of the Shoujo S song. .clap.
