I'll put it down to cultural differences. I'm south east Asian by way of origin and wasn't aware of that piece of Western etiquette until I came to Britain. To everyone their own, I guess. Hehe.

To make it even more confusing, in parts of the USA (Texas, Oklahoma, etc.) the normal hat etiquette rules don't apply if you're wearing a cowboy hat.
