Slipknot is an American heavy metal band from Des Moines, Iowa, formed in 1995. For the greater part of their tenure the band consisted of nine members; however, the death of bassist Paul Gray on May 24, 2010 left the band with only eight remaining members—Sid Wilson, Joey Jordison, Chris Fehn, Jim Root, Craig Jones, Shawn "Clown" Crahan, Mick Thomson, and Corey Taylor—each of whom is known for wearing their own grotesque mask.

Slipknot formed in 1995 and underwent several line-up changes following the independent release of their first demo Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat. in 1996. That album featured original lead vocalist, Anders Colsefini. Their self-titled debut album was released in 1999, featuring permanent new lead vocalist, Corey Taylor, and was followed by Iowa in 2001 and Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses) in 2004. On August 25, 2008, the band returned to release their fourth studio album, All Hope Is Gone, which debuted at the top spot on the Billboard 200 charts. The band has released three DVDs, including Disasterpieces, which was certified quadruple-platinum in the United States. The band has sold over 14 million records worldwide.

I love them !! .love. .balloon.

I saw them in '08 at the MEN Arena on their All Hope is Gone tour.
Thankfully I saw them before Paul Grey died.

They were backed by Machine Head and Children of Bodom and is honestly the best concert I've ever been to, and it only cost me £25.

Best part was Machine Head because they got 3 guys out of the crowd on stage to chug and then stage dive.

Slipknot?! HA HA! It's good to see that the youth is still keeping to the roots, but I agree, I grew up listening to Slipknot through my Junior - Senior years of school and it was crazy fun times...

But after a while I grew out of the heavy metal grind and started listening to punk rock, indie rock, etc., my eardrums just didn't like the metal anymore... HA HA! Not a sign of aging, but that was a part of my youth and there was nothing to rebel after I bought my first car... weird huh? "FREEDOM FROM THE MAN!!! but ironically I was paying taxes at work, to the man... boo!"

HA HA! Enjoy them with all the youth you have!

Alas, RIP Paul Gray...

I'd have to say my favourite is Vol. 3, The Subliminal Verses; just so many awesome songs on one album.

This is a great band! They're just not one of my favorites because they're too edgy for my tastes.

i was a big fan back then when i was in Highschool, but now - i think slipknot goes absolutely mainstream which i hate - i really love the first two albums coz' that was pure kick ass nu metal!
i'm in to death, symphonic, gore, grindcore, a little of black, metal right now which more awesome!

I really like Metal.. I mean are band covers metal and post-hardcore..

Slipknot is Sick and very talented base on there Music, they are a band which i called "a band that can't be covered".. because the truth is, there songs are hard to copy cleanly because of the so much effects and instruments used hehe..

But what i really don't like is the concept of anti-christianism, cause i look for the lyrics of the metal song before i will like it.. and there are some songs of Slipknot that are really so anti-christ..

This is just my opinion.. hehe

I'm listening to some slipknot now while doing some work. And yeah, their lyrics are not so christian. I don't quite remember accurately something I read about them on how they recorded one of their songs. the article said corey taylor slit his wrist while recording the songs. pretty sick. but I still like them.

Of course. Dying Fetus being my favourite of them.
If I'm listening to Death Metal I tend to listen to Technical Death Metal more, hence Viraemia and Brain Drill.

i like Technical DM too, the ones like Decapitated and Origin.
but there are some bands who are very technical like Beneath the Massacre. they are too technical for me, i tend more to just plain death metal and brutal death and little bit of grind.

I sometimes listen to their old songs. Currently "Eyeless" and "Sic". I listened a bit of their last album online and exept "the Devil in I", I don't listen to it. My "taste" for metal music changed a bit and I'm more into industrial metal and symphonic metal.

Oh, I forget to add that for this new album, I like their masks. Corey's one with 2 "parts" is well done. At first, I thought that Jim's beard was a fake one with his mask but no, it's a real beard.

Yea, corey peels of the cover mask to reveal the real mask hidden under. when he does that, its like all right, time to get serious. lol Jim's beard is starting to be epic.
