Who else found them while looking for SCANDAL ? Here is the wiki link https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scandal_(American_band)

This can create a bit of confusion, especially for people that are a bit older(30+). Image how is to ask your father to listen to some songs from Scandal and they say that they used to listen to them when thery were younger and you are like ' what the...they were not even born back then' but you search on google and find the other scandal band.

I found that wiki page completly by mistake.

It  remember me about this http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2016/06/no-mans-sky-escapes-trademark-threat-from-sky-broadcasting/

I know that SCANDAL is just a stylized version of the original name that is written in Japanese as スキャンダル, but still, found it pretty funny.

Did they knew that there is another band in the world with this name when they chose it in 2006 ?

Yeah,  I stumble upon that band a while ago when I first started to get to know our Scandal, heck whenever I look for songs by Scandal, they'll be these songs titles I never heard of and would think they were new songs or something lol .lol.Only to found out they were by another band of same name.
There's a YouTube video of our Scandal playing live,  and someone commented on how they copy /stole their name from 80s Scandal Facepalm

That Scandal from the 1980's was actually a fairly successful band. They had several singles that made it into the Billboard Hot 100 during the early 1980's. The lead singer, Patty Smyth, went on to have a solo career with another handful of Hot 100 charting singles.

This is the band's most well known song:

@Park23

I'm dating myself here, but I am very well aware of the original band named Scandal.  I was young teenager when they came out, and their early hits were big on MTV.  Singer Patty Smyth was considered quite a cutie back then, and was a good live performer (she was even seriously considered to replace David Lee Roth in Van Halen before they settled on Sammy Hagar).   Every time I try to introduce our beloved Scandal to my friends and peers, I have to emphasize it is a young band from Japan and not the one we grew up with in the 80's.

Needless to say, just having the name "Scandal" makes it a bit of a challenge to do an internet search since the name brings up either the former American band, or the new American TV show, "Scandal."  I tell people they have to put the words "Japanese (or Japan) band Scandal" in some order in their search or they're going to get weird results just putting in "Scandal Japan" (you get actual scandals from Japan); or "Scandal band" (actual band scandals).  Don't ever put in "Scandal girls" or "Scandal girls Japan" or you're sure to get some results that are NSFW, especially if you add the words "video" or "DVD" after that.

Now that you discovered the original Scandal, do check them out.  They were a good New Wave pop band with some catchy, melodic songs.

I understand there's been bands named Scandal in a few other countries too… I also remember the American one from the 1980s—it broke up before HARUNA was even born! Yet when you add stuff from "our" SCANDAL on iTunes, they give you a bio insert about the 1980s US band. Anyone know how to get iTunes to correct it?

Learning this is equally shocking when I read Jimi Hendrix almost joining ELP in Guitar World.
Well even more funny is that Jon Bon Jovi was a member of Scandal in the 80's.
But that is for a very short time because his management want him some exposure before his debut.

Bumping this thread~ It depends on the SEO, your recent searches and stuf... i think?
Anyways, usually using "SCANDAL band" brings them up more often than the 80s band.
Otherwise, yep, the original name スキャンダル brings them up, but most of the results would be japanese Happy

In tv tropes, they share in the same sheet with the SCANDAL tv show.

A friend told me to try adding the member to clear this up (eg. SCANDAL Haruna Ono) in searches, again with the related tags and SEO to consider.

Well in the end, it boils down to whether SCANDAL becomes top of the mind for the people-- to the point they would appear as first item in the searches.
