Thanks to this exposure, SCANDAL was soon discovered by the indie record label, Kitty Records.

They formed because Kitty wanted an all-female band to exploit the market gap that Zone's disbandment and idol music's growing popularity left.

While she was still in high school, Mami broke away from SCANDAL temporarily to form another band, where she played drums.

She joined Anpontans in 2004, 2 years prior the formation of Scandal.
