Hi, all!

New member- Dave from Ohio, USA.

About seven months ago, I was looking up bands I used to see on MTV (in the 1980's- when they played rock-n-roll). There was a group called Scandal with a lead singer named Patty Smythe. The band had great instrumentals, and Ms. Smythe a voice to match.

Anyway, I widened the search and came across "Japan Group Scandal". Clicked on it, found a list of videos. The first one I cued up was, "Shoujo S". .wow. Awed. Dumbstruck. Halfway through the song I had to remind myself to breathe. How was this amazing sound coming from this quartet of fiery little foxes?

After watching that a couple more times to convince myself it's real, I watched "Taiyo To Kimi Ga Egaku Story". Heart palpitations. I wanted to cry, I wanted to cheer, I wanted to climb up on the roof and scream at the top of my lungs! No! I just wanted more! I wanted to hear more. I wanted to see more.

I grew up in the 1960's. I saw the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Yardbirds, Cream, Mamas and Papas, Grass Roots, Jimi Hendrix, up to and through Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Van Halen, Moody Blues, you name them. From the early to the late years, the most iconic musicians in rock and roll. The ones everyone else is compared to, the hottest guitar riffs, the tightest bands.

I thought rock-n-roll was DEAD! I haven't heard anything new come out that really impressed me for over 25 years. Then I found SCANDAL!!

On my life, Haruna has the most beautiful voice I have EVER heard! And when they harmonize, it's angelic.

So, in conclusion, THANK YOU for this forum.  .hail.

Welcome to Heaven, USAadoresU!

I'm slightly younger (child of the 70s), but grew up on the same slate of bands.  I had the same experience randomly coming across "Shoujo S" on YouTube a few years ago and I immediately thought I was hearing the future.  There was nothing like this band in America.  Absolutely one of the best band dynamics I had seen and heard in years.

I highly recommend picking up their albums, although they're currently (but probably temporarily) no longer available on iTunes and Amazon for download.  There's a lot to enjoy and discover in their catalog, particularly the lesser-known album tracks.

Enjoy the forum.

Welcome to SH Dave,

I am English and older than Don and saw Jimi Hendrix at the 1970 Isle of Wight Festival but I agree with both of you.

Although being a bass player Tomomi is my favourite plus I love her chipmunk voice.

Hope you have fun here.

Don Dio and tonymiller,

I've already gotten everything I could find on CD. (I'm a neanderthal in the digital world!) and ordered what videos I could find on blu-ray. I've been studying Japanese to get a clearer understanding of the lyrics.

My friends are driven nuts with my love of this group. They call it "J-pop" and say "It would be better if you could understand them." Sound familiar? I respond with, "Shut up, close your eyes, and LISTEN! This is REAL LIFE ROCK AND ROLL! I've printed out the translations for a few, and hope they come to understand.

Honestly, I've been fascinated with Babymetal (and their roots, Sakura Gakuin!) and that jammin' quintet of hotties, Band-Maid. I'm just astounded by the amount of talent displayed by them, and I hope they have the inspiration and support to keep kicking butt for years to come.

And doubly so for SCANDAL!! I fully realize everyone changes/evolves, but I hope the girls never lose the rocking edge they started with, and that choreography was badazz!!

Haruna, Mami, Rina and Tomomi are deeply engraved on my heart and mind. May it ever be so!

Hello and welcome to Scandal Heaven USAadoresU.

Seeing a few aged people liking Scandal's music really make me happy since it proves that their stuff isn't just enjoyable to me or the younger generation but to anyone.

Hope you would have fun herex, and keep on loving the work that Scandal would put out.

Yes I have suffered the same, I even got called 'Japanese Tony' at the Bus Depot but like you I dont care Happy

You dont have to know the language ( and my Japanese sucks ) to enjoy a good song and feel the emotion.

I also love Japanese idols but we wont go into that here but I have Sakura Gakuin's album 'Message' in my car Happy

Hi and welcome to Scandal Heaven, Dave!

I'm also a relatively new fan of SCANDAL and member here but I'll bet you'll love it just like I do now. People here are friendly and fun! And Jade, @thoseguiltyeyes, has her eyes always open to guide us all. Haha.

Just like what @peachclub said, it's amazing and humbling to have few aged people here with the same idols as we do. It's like having hardened veterans within our army.

Man, that's a common reaction. I hope they eventually understand you and even maybe, who knows, fall in love with the girls too!
Also, you're lucky you're not in area where K-Pop is rampant. Here in the Philippines, I had to keep saying SCANDAL's not pop and definitely not Korean. However, whatever language it is, if it's good music then it's good music!

Anyway, you have to endure a bit because SCANDAL's official YT is going nuts. MVs are blocked except for Japan. Still, there are other unofficial media lying around the net and yup, there's those CDs.

EDIT: Apparently, the vids are still accessible tho for some reason, you can't watch most of them if you open them at the Music Video playlist of their Official Channel.

Hope you enjoy SCANDAL and this forum. Welcome again, Dave!

P.S. Them girls should definitely incorporate those crazy choreos back!

That's exactly what I thought before discovering Scandal a few months ago

I was born in the early 80s and all the bands I love are from the last century ... I was even wondering if it was still worthwhile to continue playing the guitar! ... And then I discovered Mami, Haruna, Rina and Tomomi !!  LOVE

Welcome !  Nice one

Happens every time .toj.

Most of my friends are addicted to Kpop and I'm only one who likes Jrock and Jpop. My parents and other relatives says I'm weird because 80% of the songs that I listen to is Japanese. Well, I'm not affected because I like being called weird. Pretty weird right?

And welcome To SH!! .clap.

Hey, Joameba! (And all the Scandal faithful)

Sorry it took so long to reply. I want to thank you for the incentive to get my butt in gear and get to a concert!

It may not seem like much, but your simple query of if I was going to see them when they are in the States really struck home.

Back in the day, I went to more concerts than I can recount. I always had a bunch of friends who would jump right into my "Party Boat" (a '69 Pontiac Catalina!) and head to the local arena in Cincinnati or Dayton for whatever the best show on tap was.

These days, in my circle of family/friends, I am alone in my passion for Scandal. So, it took more than just a little reflection to decide to go see, in my honest opinion, the most wonderful thing to happen to music in (too) many years.

My ticket to the show in Dallas arrived today. Told my boss (didn't ask, TOLD!) i would be taking that week off for vacation. All that's left is hotel & travel arrangements. CAN'T WAIT!!!

That party boat sounds like a lot of fun hehe
We were in a similar condition, I'm alone in this... "fan situation"? and my family think I'm crazy to travel only to see them and lose a week of university, but I think we'll never regret this little vacation  [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Welcome to SH, Dave!

Don't mind the whole being alone as a fan thing going to the concert. I was in the same boat, just recently. I didn't really have any close friends I could drag to the SCANDAL concert here in Manila. What happened was I ended up making friends during the fan meet, while in line, while waiting for doors to open, and even after the concert! Watching them live was so surreal too. 2 hours felt like it was just 5 minutes!

Enjoy yourself! :D
