Almost fell out of my chair when Tomomi and Haru starting singing together again, and has it been a looong time, since 2014 i think lol

It's a nice little dream pop song, i like how, i don't know how to say, janky? it sound. It has a weird beat and chord progression but I really like it. And the Haru/Mami dual guitar solos at the end is really nice  Tho if wasn't for those loud clapping noises, I would like the song a lot more

Wow! Tomomi is back on the vocals, I've been missing her voice so bad! Can't even remember when was last time she sang on latest releases...

I liked the song, it's like a mix of short short + switch + I want you + brand new wave, but it's nice, Tomomi's voice adds more vocal variety, I've been reading some comments confusing Tomomi's voice with Rina

Very experimental and I do not like it much. But at least we have Tomomi on the lead.

Yeah, can't say I like it.  Maybe it will grow on me in the context of an album, but I'm not going to bother buying the single.

whoops, .whistle. didn't mean it like that, i saw someone comment on a Tricot song, and described the interchangeable instrumentation as "janky", I don't even think they know what that means lol. but that's where i got from

I think I like Masterpiece more than Mabataki, at least for now. 
It's a great song though, and I'm really glad to hear Tomo back on the vocals.

Great to have Timo back on vocals for a change. Although both Tomomi and Haruna seem to sing in almost the same register these days. The contrast used to be more... interesting?

Nice, laid back vibe. What I enjoyed the most is hearing Tomo and Haru sing together again. Its been so long. But, I agree with most people, I prefer Masterpiece better.

Mabataki sounds very chill and soothing to me.

Most of the lyrics were pretty easy to understand up to the first verse and chorus of "Mabataki" so I was able to write out those lyrics myself = here's my translation of that:

Took me awhile to 'get' Masterpiece. Got Mabataki right away, definitely the more interesting side for me.

She's most likely referring how the pace of the song is on the slower side.

Also, while it literally means boredom, it has sometimes a nuance of being due to a tedious work. That is, one has too much or too many work so she stops doing work to rest or relax (or be lazy), and maybe listen to Mabataki while doing so  (see what I did there?), and then she feels bored because she is not doing anything but will not go back to her work because it's tedious so she keeps doing nothing (and maybe listen to Mabataki again) thus she keeps being bored, in other words, being in ennui.

*So maybe, Mabataki is the song for that case*

But yeah, it's most likely about the pacing.  .sweat.

If not only for its weird parts, Mabataki does sound great. Also, I mistook Tomo as Rina then Haru. Then, I gasped when I realized who it was.

Honestly, I like this one more than Masterpiece (didn't really like the chorus on that one). But I've been listening to more j-pop in the last few months so that might be the cause.


Also, Tomomi is singing again. A bit too childish-like but still nice to hear her.

heh.. doesn't Tomo's phrasing in Mabataki remind you of her nai nai night, B-side of the Image single? Seems like the meaning is similar too

Finally, the Voice of the Kitten.... I mean, Tomomi's singing voice is back on Mabataki!   

I REALLY LOVE MABATAKI!! This song reminds me of new wave music (ABC, The Care, and Duran Duran) during my childhood days with some elements of funk riffs a-la Nile Rodgers. There is so much nostalgia in it.
