As far as I know these guys were never meant to be great singers but a fun group. Some of them even joked with that. They have good characters and are funny people. You can always sell a TV show with them (including the other two guys not present on this show). Also they are good actors, they played in good movies and good TV-dramas.

So it was definitely a good promotion for Scandal and I agree about the 4th song.

Well, they're still at the level that if you ask any random Japanese person on the street if they've heard of SCANDAL, more than likely they will say no. And tbh, they'll probably always stay at that level while idol groups and boy bands are the most popular groups in the Japanese music scene. Most likely, they will always need all the exposure they can get. Them performing with former SMAP members could probably be considered the most exposure they've ever gotten, based on how popular SMAP was and continues to be.

They were, but not THAT well known, so i think they still need more exposure.
