SCANDAL will be releasing their new single 「Ivory」 on June 16!

New single 「Ivory」 will be released on June 16th as the second single of SCANDAL's 15th anniversary year!

Featuring lyrics and music by MAMI, the new song was arranged together with musician Kouhei Munemoto. The B-side will be an acoustic rendition of the same song.

As from my past experience, the [eternal] vinyl sold out in ONE DAY and unfortunately i didn't preorder it when it was available as i thought i could purchase it later

The text on the three bookmarks included with the book cover say this (perhaps the latter two are lyrics? [Edit on May 29th: RINA confirmed in this blog that they are indeed lyrics from the song]):

If anything, it's likely what the B-side track will sound like, which is an acoustic version of "Ivory."

FM802's "802 Easy Luck" radio program tweeted that "Ivory" (the A-side track) will be aired for the first time ever on June 2nd.

Also, here's an English translation of what it sounds like MAMI is singing (it may change once the official lyrics are out):

Comments from HARU and MAMI aired right before the song. Here's a summary of what they talked about:

•This is the first single that MAMI sings lead vocals on
•The demo for "Ivory" was made in November/December of last year
•The band started to brush it up after this year began
•MAMI says the lyrics are like a soliloquy (she mentioned this in the recent "her" Diary too)
•She says they couldn't write any songs after the pandemic began and they couldn't play any concerts
•She worried for the entire year about not being able to write, but she realized that that's something she typically worries about anyway
•When she realized that, she found it was actually something positive
•She felt a little more at ease when she realized she needed to acknowledge that side of her
•The moment she realized that was when she was in the bath
•She felt warm and wrote lyrics about what she realized
•HARU says that this song wasn't written to cheer someone up, which is precisely why MAMI sings it so tenderly, and that the entire band loves this song
•HARU also says that the four of them worked on arranging the song but they wanted a more dramatic angle to it, which is why they asked musician Kouhei Munemoto to help them out
•Kouhei's a pianist and did a piano arrangement for it, and he also introduced them to a string ensemble - the song turned out to be pretty extravagant
•She says that the chorus is pretty solid and gets pretty exciting during the latter half of the song

Reminds me of a Jeff Lynn arrangement, who in turn was heavily influenced by Beatles arrangements. The slippery string section, the nice build up of layers of sound. I like the dry presence of Mami's vocal. The whole thing feels looser and warmer than recent stuff. It's friendly. The harmony sounds so spontaneous, like a first take.
And is that the sound of a vinyl record run-out at the end? Awesome.

Frankly I wasn’t expecting much just from the acoustic "tub" teaser. Turns out to be a real head grabber though. MAMI's delivery is perfect, every member's contribution fits just right. Full of mood touches that suggest moments in the past, at least to me … striking keyboard work recalling Al Kooper’s organ backing for Bob Dylan in Blonde on Blonde— about which Dylan said something like “that was the sound I'd always been trying to find.” ... Dyin' to get the lyrics. Just one more week before our orders ship!
