Bakemonogatari (化物語?, "ghostory," a portmanteau of bakemono (化物?, ghost or monster) and monogatari (物語?, story)) is a Japanese light novel series written by Japanese novelist Nisio Isin and illustrated by Taiwanese illustrator Vofan; the series is published by Kodansha under the Kodansha Box imprint. The story centers on Koyomi Araragi, a third year high school student who has recently survived a vampire attack, and finds himself mixed up with all kinds of apparitions; gods, ghosts, mythological beasts, and spirits. An anime adaptation by Shaft started airing on July 3, 2009 and went through a total of 15 episodes. The prequel novel, Kizumonogatari was recently announced as being green-lit for anime production.

Bakemonogatari centers on Koyomi Araragi, a third year high school student who is almost human again after briefly becoming a vampire. One day, a classmate named Hitagi Senjōgahara, who never talks to anyone, falls down the stairs into Koyomi's arms. He discovers that Hitagi weighs next to nothing, in defiance of physics. Despite being threatened by her to keep away, Koyomi offers his help, and introduces her to Meme Oshino, a strange middle-aged man living in an abandoned building, who cured him of being a vampire.
The series tends to introduce only one new heroine per chapter, each involved with a different "apparition". Most of them have an item which symbolises their spectres, such as Hitagi's stapler - the claw of a crab, Mayoi's back pack - the shell of a snail, Suruga's leggings, and Nadeko's big hat and baggy jacket - the head and skin of a snake. The events of the previous chapters play an important role in the subsequent ones. The series primarily focuses on conversations between characters; it contains a fair number of parodies of other series, as well as Nisio Isin's trademark word play and metahumor.

Bakemonogatari Bakemonogatari

Believe it or not, this was my first anime i saw in Japanese, and i really liked the storyline.
The production wasn't great, with the SHAFT company being the main reason behind that, with scenes being cut out and replaced with red or black images with text.
Nevertheless, I liked the story, music and characters in this anime!
Thoughts?

I really enjoyed this anime. But if you know me, I like tsunderes which made me watch this on the spot when it first came out.

I actually thought that the production was well done. The red and black text wasn't too annoying for me, I just simply didn't read the ones that went by really fast.

I'll agree that the music and characters were great though. I wouldn't watch a show where I hated everything. xD

Same reason with Plut, because of the tsun factor. xD

And yeah, this is one of the animes out there that very well done and very well thought of during production.

And Sengoku Nadeko FTW!

Not really a second season, but the prequel novel is gonna be made into an anime
http://www.moetron.com/2010/07/27/light-novel-kizumonogatari-anime-announced/

It's called Kizumonogatari, no idea for a release date, but knowing SHAFT it will take a while.

But prequel means no Hitagi x Araragi relation, D=

Better than nothing though, maybe in the future the sequel novels to Bakemonogatari will get turned into anime.
