I noticed Scandal Heaven has "7968 registered users".

Most of the venues Scandal plays are small live houses between 150-2700.
Check out the numbers here:

How many SH members are there in the USA? Are there enough to fill a concert hall?

If we could get enough USA SH Members together for a show. Maybe we could entice Scandal to show up. Maybe somebody could call some TV News or Radio Stations. It's a thought...

I'm not an admin so I can't make the decision about posting the site's exact traffic stats, but the "Country:" profile information people provide is publicly available so I will say that about 230 people have selected USA on their profile.

The facebook groups are also pretty big. I'm not sure how much overlap there is between facebook group members and SH members.

Generally speaking, to do an event in Japan they're looking for at least 50 people minimum to give the proper atmosphere and make it worth their time. I don't know about an international show... Maybe if you had double the 50 person minimum (and were willing to pay their appearance fee and all expenses of course) they might consider it?

It's tough to predict how many people we could get together for something like that... you'd need to take the number of US members, subtract the inactive users, subtract those who can't travel cross-country, add the users from other countries who would travel to the US.

The only way you're going to get Scandal here is at an anime convention, which they've done before. That's how a lot of Japanese bands play here, sometimes all together in one big show. Last year, Puffy, Boom Boom Satellites, and a couple others played together at NYAF... in Japan these artists can attract 15,000 people on their own, but here they got maybe 300 all together...

(Puffy on their last US tour also got about 100 people at most shows... it was kinda sad.)

There are some Japanese bands that play certain cities in the US alone, but those bands are REALLY popular not just in Japan, but in the US too. L'arc en Ciel just played in NYC a little while ago, and I guess they got probably about 8,000 people at Madison Square Garden. (I heard there were a lot of empty seats and they were actually giving tickets away on the day of the show.) But that was a big show that got a huge amount of promotion, and they're a heavily established band that attracts people from all around (and both Americans and Japanese fans). Most Japanese bands can't do a show like that.

I saw Dreams Come True in NYC and they sold out Irving Plaza. In Japan, again they can draw like 50,000 people to a show - they sell out stadiums sometimes. In the US, in the city with the biggest Japanese population, they can attract 2,000 people. So that seems to be about the ratio for most Japanese bands; in the biggest US city, a Japanese artist can usually sell about 1/25 the number of tickets as they can in Japan.

For Scandal, if they can now sell out Budokan in Japan, they would probably draw about 500 people here, for an NYC show. That's not going to be worth it for them... (it costs a lot of money to put on a show and fly out not just the band, but all the support people, equipment etc. from Japan.)

But I could see them doing another anime convention, if they keep doing theme songs.

Stereopony seemed to fare ok with one convention show followed by I think 3 non-convention shows afterwards along the west coast.

If they can do a little mini-tour after an anime convention, then that might be worth it. They get paid by the convention to sit there and sign autographs for a while, so that probably at least pays for the flight...

I'm sure the convention probably also shares the cost of the show they put on during the convention too.

At least for AM2 it was more convoluted than that; Cure magazine was in-between the convention and Scandal, so they were the ones actually hiring/paying for Scandal and then trying to recoup the expense which is why there were things like "surprise! everyone must buy a t-shirt to get an autograph!" going on. I don't think at conventions the band itself is doing the leg work towards profitability. I would expect the convention or their sponsor is paying all their expenses and their appearance fee and it's up to the convention or sponsor to promote and make it work.

I don't see SCANDAL doing any US shows outside of an anime convention. Although it would be personally gratifying for them, finacially it would be a loss. I don't know the full motive for Stereopony's west coast tour but I'm sure it wasn't profitable. The Hollywood and Santa Ana shows attracted 200 people at most at each venue. It was only through the support of Very Good Days and the enthusiasm of SCANDAL HEAVEN was it memorable for them.
SCANDAL "sold out" the AM2 show but they would have to do that at every stop on a tour to pull a profit (and Sony is all about the profit).
I'm afraid you will just have to join the "Budokan 8" (the SH members that went to Budokan) on our next SCANDAL trip to Japan. Maybe Osaka-jo Hall? hopehopehope.

Aside from anime conventions, SONY can always put them into a joint tour with other artists, but likewise, that means splitting more profit between artists, Sony, venues, etc.... I still have no idea how AM2 pulled off SCANDAL... Granted that top notch passes were $40, that still didn't mean that everyone bought one... (give or take a few dollars, we had that SH deal going on here so I know we got it cheaper)... Ex. $40 x 100 = $4000, then you factor convention hall rental, all the bands, etc., that meant someone dished out a lot of their own money to start off AM2 because I'm pretty sure there wasn't money to be had since it was a free convention...

Unless if someone is willing to take a personal hit on their wallet to get SCANDAL here for a show/tour *cough*Mr.Monopoly*cough*, then big conventions are probably the only bet to see them in the flesh here in the US again... although... they said they'd be back... they said they'd be back... be back...
TOJ Onion
Big established conventions like Sakura Con, Anime Expo, etc., where the cost of admission skyrocket and rip you a new @$$ as the dates get closer x the amount of attendees, now that's where the cost of getting big names artists are like flea tickets to them...

So let's say we do have 2,000 US members that want a SCANDAL tour... Pitch in $100 each and then we'd have $200,000... Nifty eh? Now think about how much they made at Budokan per person (including merchandise sold, etc.)... "Oh SONY, you do know how to make money..."

But anyways, even with the 8,000 something members we have on here, there's a lot of people who have registered and never come back, so we haven't purged the list for quite a while... Heh, most stop at 50 replies because they're only looking for access into the media section, but whatever...

Glenn, if SCANDAL goes to Osaka, you better have bought that "Drinking in Japan" book for me to abuse... +1 to the Super 8!

The thing with stereopony is that they were paid to attend Sakura-con and then most likely, since they were already there and the tickets were already being paid for by the convention, they probably figured things out and got to pay only the difference for an extended stay (more days apart on the flight) and decided, since they were already in the US and so close to Hollywood, they would want to do a concert here, which is fantastic idea and it helps reduce costs by a huge lot, since most of the trip expenses were paid by sakura-con (by most I mean plane tickets, it is obvious that the hotel stay in cali and food etc is not paid by sakura-con)

@jpopishot all we have to do is stay calm and support as many japanese bands as we can, because we are very few that are interested in these type of concerts there is even less people that can make it to them because of work/school or whatever reason. As far as me goes, I try to go to support as many bands that I know of, I missed Chatmonchy by 4 days because I had no idea they were even coming to Cali, if I had known I wouldve gone 100%. Anyhow, thats my 2 pennies.
