SCANDAL's Signature Fender Models to be offered for sale!

SCANDAL's brand new signature models—HARUNA TELECASTER, MAMI STRATOCASTER, TOMOMI PRECISION BASS—will be offered for sale!

After repeated discussions from the end of last year, prototypes for their own use were completed in July of this year.

Based on their passionate feelings of 「We want to make instruments that we and, of course, everyone obtaining them will be able to use for a long time」, models that reflect HARUNA, MAMI, and TOMOMI's current selves were completed as an "unlikely" attractive line-up with instruments that combine both looks and sound. Additionally, their signatures are written on the back of the headstocks.

They will be available to purchase starting from November 17th (Friday) and are estimated to be delivered towards the end of December.

HARUNA TELECASTER

「HARUNA TELECASTER」 features DIMARZIO CHOPPER T pickups on gold binding and hardware. It is said to produce a powerful humbucker sound. The special gold pickguard shining on a pure white body emits an elegant presence.

MAMI STRATOCASTER

「MAMI STRATOCASTER」 is equipped with MAMI's first 3 single coil pickups. It features CUSTOM SHOP TEXAS SPECIAL pickups and echoes a full-bodied Strat tone. Chosen by MAMI, the body has a glossy red color that shines and a matching headstock, and also features a pearloid pickguard and gold hardware.

TOMOMI PRECISION BASS

「TOMOMI PRECISION BASS」 features a natural-colored body, rose fretboard, red tortoiseshell pickguard, and AMERICAN VINTAGE '63 PRECISION pickups. Both its appearance and tone make it an "unlikely" vintage model. This model employs a narrow neck shape and has a full-fledged Precision Bass sound while taking playability into consideration.

Whatever people call those previous Squiers, now these are genuine Fenders!
Scandal fans in the guitar playing community deserve an upgrade haha!
Although I never owned any single cutaway electric before the Skullsilver, I would love to have a second Telecaster just because of Haruna. And I'm sure this will sound great and play great.
Do hope the dealer in my city will have it any time soon.

.toj. wow! They are lovely! I love the tone of Tomomi's P bass but when it comes to look, Haruna's telecaster is my favorite. Hehe I will definitely buy all of them in case I win in Lotto.. Happy

Mmmm, so Tomomi's Precision bass is £1009 in English money which is not bad, but the shipping is another 20,000 JPY, another £134.

And I see it is a 1963 American Vintage, my Jazz bass is a real 1962 one Happy

I've noticed that the specs of Haruna's new Telecaster such as DiMarzio pickups and baseball bat-like neck are very similar to Richie Kotzen's current Signature Telecaster.

It sounds like a powerful all-around guitar to me. I'll save more money to buy one!

You are right, the Chopper in the bridge and Twang King in the neck. In fact, we can (kinda) hear HARU's Tele right here!

If you take a closer look at the specs, the 2 signature Teles only share a couple of feature. I mean the pickups and maybe the neck profile.
Richie Kotzen's guitar is made of swamp ash with a maple top while Haruna is of Alder.
Although the pickups are the same, but on different body wood will not sound the same.
Maybe sometime soon, the members of Scandal will come up with a video to demonstrate their new axes.

True. But as a guesstimate, it should be good enough to give people an idea. The difference is possibly "miniscule" to the general guitar playing population, and probably not to more discerning players with better ears.

Oh, wow...they all look great. I've never been a Tele player sadly...it's one of those guitars that I like to hear other people play, rather than own one myself. Haruna's looks stunning, so maybe I'd change my mind about Teles if I tried it out?

Tomomi's bass is an interesting choice for sure...I agree that the jazz style neck is appealing for those of us with shorter fingers! Precisions are another type that I've never had a personal preference for, but Tomomi (and many others) get a fantastic sound out of them.

Mami's Strat, in contrast, is one that I'd like to buy when I get the chance. The features are sort of "conventional" but I guess that means it will appeal to a wider range of people than just her fans? The pickups, vibrato/bridge, and fretboard radius are fairly "standard" but the gold hardware is classy and I absolutely adore the colour. I bet a lot of guitarists I know would want one even if they've not heard of her!

I've not seen confirmation of where they're all made, but from the prices I'd assume they're CIJ? Fender Japan doesn't seem to exist as a separate company any more, but when I changed region at the bottom of the official Fender site's main page, I got redirected to their Japanese-language site and that still lists some CIJ models (there's no sign of these there yet though).

Interestingly, the website at Ikebe, on listing out the specs, had a 'Made In Japan' next to the guitar names, despite this not being clear on the Japanese Fender website.

They seem to still do an MiJ Fender series (Made in Japan Traditional) but not in the way what Fender Japan used to be. Interestingly, the MSRP for these Japan-made guitars are cheaper than the SCANDAL signature pieces. Then again, the prices obviously reflects the signature nature of these guitars.

The CiJ instruments are still kinda rare around here, and aren't the massive bargain they used to be (I can remember a time when they'd be literally half the price of the USA models...) but I'm sure the sound and build quality are still impressive. It'll just take a little longer to save up. I'll be in Japan on holiday in late January, so I'll have to be careful about being tempted into splurging a grand on a new guitar or bass... .scared.

No worries. CiJ guitars are indeed 'rare' as they don't make as many as they used to due to Fender Japan being no more. There are online sellers in Blighty who specifically sell Japan-made Fenders and the price is still less than an American Standard.

Anyway, getting back to topic - just avoid Ochanomizu when you visit Tokyo should you wish to avoid temptation of buying one of the SCANDAL signature Fenders!

When I bought my Squier SCANDAL sigs, I bought the Fender 2" monogrammed straps with the SCANDAL logo on them for completion. These straps are also available without the logos, although the colour combo appear to be available for the Japan market only.

For these new guitars, looking at the recent Koisuru Universe PV and some of the recent live performances, you may want to get these straps for completion too. Hopefully, the girls will keep these straps with these guitars forever as they do their other guitars.

MAMI uses a 2" Custom Color Fender monogrammed strap in Candy Apple Red. It is in the current Fender.com website and you can check how much it costs where you are from the site.

For HARU (I do hope I am right for this one), it appears that the nearest one you can get is the Fender 2" distressed leather strap in white.

I had cross referenced the look of the strap and whilst subtle, the distressed nature can't really be seen in the Melodix! broadcast. I did look on the internet for older models for Fender that is non-distressed but to no avail. And it's not a Japan-only strap either.

To date, these straps are easily available where you are, hopefully (but you may want to hold off getting the leather one unless you aren't really bothered). So much so, my fav guitar store 5 minutes from me have all three in stock. The monogrammed ones are the cheapest, and the leather is dearer for obvious reasons.

In fact, the entire issue appears to be dedicated to the return of Japanese Fenders (MIJ Traditional and Hybrid series), and the signature Fender component of the issue sees interviews with and descriptions of Japan-made sig guitars of the likes of MIYAVI and Soichiro Yamauchi. At least, together with the info provided by Ikebe gakki, we can pretty much confirm that the SCANDAL signature Fenders are all MiJs.

The magazine will be on sale 12/12/17 and should be available to overseas fans through the usual online outlets (or ordered via a Japanese bookstore if you have one in your locality).

By the way, the photos are unfortunately not hi-res - but, from the Melodix! video, HARU had a Schaller-styled security strap lock on her new Tele (they all do have them on their other guitars). I wonder if the HARU sig has this in built (possibly with Fender ones but of the Schaller styles - not liking the current Fender ones), and if you squint at the close up photo of HARU's strap button, it probably is.
