SCANDAL eventually got me to Stereopony and FLiP. Both are harder than SCANDAL and very nice to listen to.

Caless StudentCheck out Tokyo Jihen. They are not a girl band, but they have a female vocalist and are amazing.
They actually split up earlier this year, but they were around for 9 years so there is plenty of stuff available online.
