The all awaited franchise from Blizzard Starcraft 2, is a military science fiction real-time strategy video game currently under development by Blizzard Entertainment as a sequel to the award-winning 1998 video game StarCraft. The game is being developed for concurrent release on Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X. The release date is based upon the game meeting Blizzard's quality standards; however, parent company Activision Blizzard anticipates Wings of Liberty to be released in the first half of 2010. StarCraft II is split into three installments: the base game with the subtitle Wings of Liberty, and two expansion packs, Heart of the Swarm and Legacy of the Void.

Wings of Liberty story:

Set in the 26th century in a distant part of the Milky Way galaxy, the game is built around three species: the Terrans, human exiles from Earth; the Zerg, a race of insectoid genetic assimilators; and the Protoss, a species with vast psionic power. Wings of Liberty specifically focuses on the Terrans, while the expansions Heart of the Swarm and Legacy of the Void focus on the Zerg and Protoss, respectively. The game is set four years after the events of StarCraft: Brood War, and follows the exploits of Jim Raynor as he leads an insurgent group against the autocratic Terran Dominion. However, unable to inflict major damage against the Dominion, Raynor's forces are relegated to the roles of mercenaries, recovering artifacts of an ancient species thought extinct, the Xel'Naga, for their enigmatic employers. The game reunites old characters from the original game, as well as introducing new characters and locations to the franchise.

Currently in Beta testing, and is planned for a release later this year. There is no official date as of this moment. The plan for the release, is that there will be 3 different copies. The first one to be released is Wings of Liberty, which is the Terran campaign. The Zerg and Protoss copies will be sold later on. Remember the project Starcraft Ghost project that was scrapped a few years back. It has been over 10 years since Brood War was released, and this will finally give players of the original Starcraft game some news.

Lale, to even play the beta, you'll need a CD Key that they give out if you make a Battlenet 2.0 account. You'll have to wait awhile though, since they don't give them out right away. It took me 2~3 months after account creation before they gave me one.

You can pre-order them awhile ago in Canada, but now the official prices come out.

$59.99 for Wings of Liberty.

Zerg and Protoss boxes will be out later, which sucks badly. :/

Yep, online play is the same on the 3 boxes. The campaigns should be really big though. A lot longer than they were in SC1.

You can probably handle it, on lowest possible settings. The developers at starcraft made the game on a single core CPU, so you should be able to handle it, just not on highest settings.

The box comes with campaign mode which apparently has 29 missions, some mini-games (?), and the multiplayer (Battle.net) online play.

The Starcraft 2 map editor can make any type of game you want.

Dota, Counter-Strike, Resident Evil, Tetris, you name it, the engine is that powerful.

Although the beta's ended or is on some hiatus, there is a way to play the game with user-made AIs.

In the first screencap, are those Thors? They don't seem to look the same as in the beta, if I recall correctly.
