Yeah... after 25 years he's got boring, but Mike Mangini is also great drummer. Hey There's still the great John Petrucci, the genius Jordan Rudess, the skillful John Myung and James LaBrie Nice one

I would like to contribute an appreciation post for one of the most skillful bassists of all time, John Myung. He has inspired me to play the bass ever since I've known about Dream Theater. His personality is also interesting, which I see as an added edge among all other bass players. According to wikipedia:

Spoiler:

Everything about this bassist just amazes me, especially he being able to maintain a low-profiled way of life despite of his fame, and his perseverance and dedication to play the bass. Although we have quite similar personalities, like I who seldom talks (of course I have to talk a lot online but I rarely do talk in person, haha) I should be guilty for my lack of discipline and patience with practicing the bass. Seriously, practicing for 6 hours a day? I barely practice for just an hour, hehe. It came into mind that he should be a motivation for me If I want to be a better bassist. I really look up to him. .clap.

Well, let me just end this post with this photo that really caught my attention:

He rarely talks, that's why when he does, it must be really something.
And oh... you cannot argue with him.. Enough said. .evilgrin.

Wow, I didn't know Dream Theater is here as well. I just discovered them a few months ago and got hooked by them. Being a listener of mostly pop and soft-rock, I'm surprised that I really enjoy their music. I love how varied and melodic their music is despite being heavy.

I have only listened to their latest and greatest hits albums though, need to find time to listen to the rest as their songs take some time to fully digest. .smile.

I listen to a lot of prog rock and Dream Theater gets in the rotation every now and then. Not my absolute favorite but I enjoy their music.

It has been a while since I last posted on this thread. I wanted to keep this thread active so I decided to share this video here of John Myung's funny moments.. they're indeed hilarious! It also shows another side of Dream Theater's mysterious bassist. I cracked up especially during 1:58, mostly because I can relate. We have our band's own quirks, and that kind of frustration also happens to me whenever I lose track of the bass parts. He reminded me of a friend as well, who is a bassist too.. he has sort of the same reactions like what happened on 1:58 xD
Spoiler:
I think I will be known on this thread as a resident "John Myung" contributor, haha.. I hope not. .whistle. Anyway, I hope more Dream Theater fans will discover this thread and post on it. I will continue to post in it some other time as well. This band is too amazing not to pay attention to. Happy

I don't listen to them very often but I have to admit that "Images and Words" is a great album and I definitely would like to add it to my music library : D

No, no, Mike is in The Winery Dogs now, no need to go back there :p

Often I say "Dream Theater is the best band in the world", because their stats are the higher in almost everything (composition, melodies, technique, lyrics), and continues "But why is not everybodys favorite band?". I use to get bored listening DT, and I only resist a few songs in a row, but they're at the top, and I admire them altough I'm not a fan.
