Here is a french band you should listen to, their genre is kinda mixed between folk and rock; well in fact, the first album is really anchored in folk roots and then it evolved in more blues rock genre ^_^

Well well Jlrd I am just listening to a new gem I just found, I name Dum Dum Girls ^_^
Generally, I am more appealed to male voices when it turns to occidental music and when I listen to Asian music it is the contrary (I know it is weird[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]) but this girls band really caught my attention (like Yeah Yeah Yeahs or The Kills) and I am not disappointed!^o^

They are just lovely. Oh, and they recently announced that they are going to release a new album early next year, so there's that. 
If you like them, then you should probably listen to Best Coast. The musical arrangements are simple, but the music's nice too.
