Hello everyone!

Fairly new to SH, having created the account back in november, and lurking without one for a bit before that again.

Bit of backstory of how I found Scandal back in August/September:
Back in late August I randomly stumbled across that Silent Siren was releasing a new album, and having listened to them a bit a year or two prior I was intrigued and this led me on a path into the land of japanese music. (Though I had listened to groups like Babymetal and others before, I hadn’t really given japanese music much of a shot yet.)
After listening to more of Silent Siren I eventually stumbled across Band-Maid, whom I believe I had heard a bit of prior, but this was probably when I was too stubborn to give them a shot: I really got into them watching Tank and Chase’s reactions to them. While binge-watching YouTube videos of live performances I noticed a recommendation which piqued my interests as I had never heard of this certain group before and I was fully into the rabbit hole of the wonderful land of japanese music.

This video was of Scandal performing Standard at Budokan in 2016. Which, while I really like it now, probably isn’t the best first song to listen to of them. I did enjoy it, but I was not really too sure if it was my kind of thing and ended up kind of pushing them to the side, but YouTube recommendations were ruthless and kept recommending me videos of them, and I ended up listening to them more. And the more I did, the more I liked them. Eventually I listened to Departure, which I’ll give the credit to as the song that completely sold me on the band.
Now, half a year or so later, they are most definitely my favorite band of recent time, and probably one of my all time favorites. They even made me spend money and buy their music, which is something I really never have done with any band I have enjoyed.

(I also have tickets to the London show, so I might get to see them live assuming it happens)

While I’m not a very interesting person in my very own opinion I’ll give you a quick intro.

  • I’m a student at the moment, graduating this spring with a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Science
  • I’m a guitar player, having done so for 12 or so years. Though there are years of downtime in there. Babymetal and Scandal recently reignited my love for it!
  • Kind of a gear nerd when it comes to guitar gear!
  • While I used to be one of those annoying “metal or nothing” guys before, now I’d describe my taste in music as “I like good music, no matter the genre”. Which sounds kinda cheesy but whatever! hah.

This got a bit long, so I’ll leave it at that. If there’s any questions please fire them at me!
Hope to get to know all y’all beautiful people more!
Cheers.

(PS. I’m not a native english speaker so things might be broken lol)

Hi and welcome to the active side of SH Happy

For someone who is not a native English speaker I thought that was an excellent intro and we are all really quite friendly here, well most of us.

I started with Japanese idols ( as you can see by the AKB48 picture ) but then started listening to other Japanese music and now I like loads.

I am a bass player which made me watch Tomomi more than the others and now she is my favourite as I also love her chipmunk voice Happy

I love guitars too and even have a red Fender Jazz Bass like Tomomi used to play although mine is from the 60's ( I am old )

Hope you have fun here !

Hello nyseth welcome to Scandal Heaven.

I started listening to Scandal last Spring/Summer during Lockdown when I spent way to much time listening to music and watching YouTube reaction videos, I was aware of the band along with many other Japanese acts but never really got into the music side of things despite my interest in J-culture.

Masterpiece was my first song and it hooked me instantly but I am quite partial to Departure.

Like Tony Tomomi is my favourite but I don't play bass I just love her .love. Although they are all wonderful lovely talented ladies. Do you have a favourite member or just like all of them equally?

Your English is better than mine btw and I'm English born and bred [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Haha, thank you!

I don't really have a favorite member, love them all equally as you say haha.
Though, being a guitarist I'll have to admit that I often tend to focus on Mami.

It would probably have to be a tie between KFTD and Hello World.
With being a new fan, and KFTD being the newest album, it became the one I listened to the most in the beginning, and when I look at my lastfm stats, it is the album I've listened the most to so far, with the others not too far behind.
Hello World also has so many of my favorite Scandal songs that I feel it'd be wrong not to include it.

Hello nyseth! This is a great introduction! And your story similar to mine too. It was a long time ago, but in that time period, I listen only metal music and nothing else. But now I listen to quite a lot of different music.
I like Norwegian Black Metal like - Immortal, Mayhem, Darkthrone, Emperor, Satyricon,  etc..
My favourite SCANDAL song - Shunkan Sentimental

Hi!
That's a good list of black metal bands! Haven't listened too much to Immortal or Satyricon, but the others I'm fairly familiar with, all having been in heavy rotation during the periods I'm listening to alot of black metal.

Favorite Scandal song is hard to say for me, feels like it's ever-changing. Departure got me hooked to the band, so it holds a dear spot in my heart, but recently hachi-gatsu has been sneaking up the list rather quickly.

this statement hit me pretty hard. its good to know there are others like me in this regard. i left my band back in 2016 on not-so-friendly terms. the whole experience left such a bad taste in my mouth for music that i sold a lot of my guitars and amps (only kept the ones with sentimental value) and i didnt even listen to music on the radio. thanks to scandal and band maid my fire was reignited also in 2020. yup... 4 years. thats how much it hurt. these bands saved my musical life.

Hi!
I have some songs that might be close to a level where I'm comfortable with publishing a cover of them on YouTube, so soon enough I might pop some up Wink Assuming the perfectionist in me allows for it! haha

Yeah I feel you. In 2012 when I was in 10th grade we had a school musical which every 10th grade class have every year and I was a part of the band for it. And while it was largely fun internally in the band, one of the teachers who were the ones ran the musical were not so fun to work with. They sucked all the fun out of everything related to it everytime we spoke to them, to the level that we all wanted to bail at a point. Luckily we had another teacher who was a blessing and held us together and made it all work despite the other one being a pain. This teacher was actually a professional singer and played with some cool bands before, which is reaaaallly cool.

The entire experience killed all my motivation for music and I ended up rarely touching the guitar until around 2017 when I was working and had a moment of reignited desire to play again, which probably came in part due to the fact that I then had money to buy a new guitar for the first time since like 2011! I ended up buying a 7 string Ibanez. However, the reignited desire to play guitar was rather short lived due to the fact that obviously when you haven't done something in years you don't retain the skill level you had when before you 'quit', so I kind of put it aside again. And apart from the odd now and then when I would play guitar for maybe a week or two it died again until last year when I came across and discovered the wonderful scene of Japanese music.

And funnily enough, while I regretted not getting a fender strat instead of the 7 string Ibanez at points, I now love the fact that I did. It allows me to play so many more songs, like most Babymetal songs hah! Though the nitro wizard necks sucks, they're too flat for my taste haha.

Well I was a teenager in the 60's ( Yes I am old ! ) and everyone wanted to be in a group in the UK then but my Mother was on her own and could not help me with money so I had a Saturday job to save enough to buy a cheap guitar.
My cousin's family were well off and he had guitar lessons every week and each week he would pass on to me what he had learned so I got to learn for free Happy

We both went on to be in many local groups ( but nobody famous ) I grew up with Gary Brooker and he invited me to join his group but I said you will never get anywhere with a stupid name like 'Procol Harum', I was wrong of course Sad

Just wanted to say music has always been a huge part of my life and I still love to play and listen to it.
