The Ring really made an impression to me with its simplicity because I'm used to western horrors with lots of gores and stereotype scary stuff. The Ring gives the feeling of realism, and that is what is scary the thought that it can happen to you in the real world.
Another one is the Japanese Ghost Stories a collection of ghost-mystery during feudal Japan... It creeps me out seeing watching a ghost in a Kimono

Favorites. Ju-On (the grudge) and Ringu (the ring)
Infection, Carved, Apartment 1303 and Suicide Club are also pretty good.
Suicide club was a little confusing though.
Korean and Thai horror movies are also pretty good.

check out XX (labeled X-Cross over here Stateside)...
not too spooky of a film, but I like the cinematography and style... it's more of a thriller than a horror, but it's a good watch... plus it's got some Avex stars in it, so it's obviously backed up by Avex... HA HA!
as for horror-horror, the Ring is one of the originals, but I'll throw in the "One Missed Call" series... One Missed Call: Final wasn't too great, Part 2 was OK, but Part 1 spooked me out completely! not that it was too scary, but I put THAT ringtone as my own for a while and it was fun times afterwards... HA HA!
