what are we all doing here?

I've just seen this supposedly fan forum, registered and typing my first post here in this section. If you have strong feelings like me for the band or one of them, that's okey. I'm not blaming you. None of us would blame each other probably.

What I don't really get that we all speak English here and they all speak Japanese. And? Are they really listening to us? They don't speak English in any way, do they?. Isn't this forum fan based?

I've "restarted" studying Japanese last week. The last time I studied Japanese was more than 10 years ago. That was a long time ago past in my life when I was "really" different person in that past. So far, I relearned Hiragana, Katagana, probably less than a hundred vocabulary and about 8 kanji's under my belt.

If you really adore Scandal or one of them like me, you should waste no more time. You should start learning Japanese right now. After all, we should "really" listen to them, shouldn't we?

What?

I'm really not sure what you think SCANDAL HEAVEN is, but we are a forum made by the fans for the fans. The band members themselves are obviously not going to be looking at posts on here, nor are we trying to talk to/communicate with them with this forum.

But that's not the point of SH: it is a space for English-speaking SCANDAL fans to gather and do stuff like talk to one another or catch up on SCANDAL-related news. It is in no means a way to get in touch with the band, or anything along those lines.

Welcome to SCANDAL HEAVEN

Like our Japanese speaking Admin said this is a Forum for English speaking fans but many people here do know a little Japanese.

There are members here from many different Countries and we just find it easier to use English as our main language, SCANDAL do know of this Forum but you cannot actually speak to them from here but almost anything you want to know about SCANDAL you can find here.

thank you arigatoo thoseguiltyeyes & miller for the replies. I would probably have  questions after questions but let's stick to only one for the moment. I'm not sure whether I should ask here or create a new post. Let's try here.

So, there is a "Scandal Blog" here not shown as a main link but hidden under the Scandal News section. OMG. But why hidden there?

There in the blog are posts in English ending with the name "Rina". So, has "really Rina" written each of those blogs herself in the name of the band? Does she or any other member band speak any English? Or did she use a translator (a friend) to translate her posts from English to Japanese? Or does the administrator here translate her posts from Japanese to English?

I went through "supposedly" her last blogs yesterday night. It was soo much touching and kind and overflowing over the chalice full of warmth and closeness and sincerity. Just wow. 17 and a half years into this band. I read somewhere else that I think Haruna said "There wouldn't be scandal without Rina". Rina is probably the founder of this band.

Pretty much everything you see here that's been translated from Japanese into English was done by me, thoseguiltyeyes. The band does not speak anything other than Japanese. If you see an English translation posted by me, like a blog post from the band, then it was me who translated it.

RINA is not the "founder" of the band, btw. Their dance school + a record label put them together. HARU only said what she did about RINA because RINA found the drums very difficult at first and wanted to quit. As the entire band has said before, if any one member of the band were to quit, they wouldn't be SCANDAL anymore.

What can I say. Thank you again for your "hard" work master. You and your forum seems immensely helpful. Yeah, I've somewhat enjoyed reading other posts by other fans to some extent so. I've spent my last two nights listening to their songs or browsing this forum or other related material. I haven't listened to all of their songs yet : (. Needless to say, some are infinitely many times better than others. It's still okey though. Not all of them should rock my mind and spirit. A few ones, even a single one to the extreme, is enough. These three

-Shojo S
-Taiyou Scandalous
-Shunkan Sentimental

played in my head all day long last week. I discovered Runners high yesterday night and listend to it again and again and again today.

Thank you again, master. Thank you very much.

Hi,
I think you might want to start off with this video that talks about their start. Please don't share the link. The translation is a bit rough, but you'll get the idea.

I'm probably not the only one here who is struggling to learn Japanese, languages are hard for me—and Japanese is not the easiest for English speakers—but SCANDAL and their fans are examples for us all, to keep on keeping on, ganbatte—this community is so inspiring.
Actually I'm sure that band members do check out comments written in various languages,.... After all there are instant translations these days through google, et al. Those translations are far from perfect but the members are pretty sharp so I'm sure they can figure out what we are trying to say. And we know for a fact that the members are very aware of and appreciate SCANDAL HEAVEN, esp. TGE/Jade!
Some further points—
• MAMI once noted that English has become sort of an international language and said that's OK with her, it doesn't matter so much which language. The fact that it's English comes from cultural imperialism, but whether we like it or not, it is what it is.
• Still, English is only one way that people can cross cultures. RINA has been studying French for a few years and HARU is apparently learning Korean.
• SH's lyric translations are so valuable, lots of fans use them to caption fanvids, and since SCANDAL lyrics are much more interesting than average (IMHO) that's very important. At the same time there only so much that any translation can do, so I certainly agree that fans should make some effort to learn at least some Japanese—even a little understanding is gonna enrich your appreciation of just how good this band is.
Welcome home to our community!

Way back in 1980 ( yes I am old ! ) I was glued to the TV version of 'Shogun' and it made me want to know more about Japan, back then you could only have Penpals and it could take two weeks for your letter to get to Japan and two weeks for a reply so the Internet has made it so much easier to have Japanese friends and being a Bass player myself I also got into Japanese music and groups, oh and Japanese idols but I wont go into that here.

So many people I know seem to be into K-Pop these days and I have nothing against that but I still love my Japanese groups and SCANDAL will always be important to me.

It makes me sad that many of my Japanese friends speak good English and my Japanese sucks but I did learn Latin and French at school so I will use the excuse that it is harder to remember stuff when you are old Happy
