I never see this movie, but it's a popular movie yep.

Yep. It's also how I found out about it... I was just searching for top recommended films... and a lot of the lists I read included Amelie... and that's why I watched it. I'm glad I did! :D

You should def watch it.. it's really funny and romantic.. the French really have a sick sense of Humor... which is so awesome!! After watching the film, it totally shot up to the top of my fave list... I highly recommend this one!

Ah, I like this thread. My second major is movies...so I know a ton of good foreign movies. I recommend you watch these when you have time, all of these are my favorite foreign films.

1. City of God (Brazil).
2. Taxi (France) - Well anything by Luc Besson is good. The man is a genius.
3. Run Lola Run (Germany).
4. Ong Bak (Thailand).
5. Warrior King (Thailand).
6. The Orphanage (Spain) - That scared the hell out of me!
7. Boku no Kanojo ha Saibogu (Japan) - literally means, "My Girlfriend is a Cyborg."
8. The Painted Skin II (China) - I found this to be very interesting. A look at ancient Chinese culture and history.

Anyways, I will have more. But I hope that will see you through for now.

I recommend 'The Crucible'. It's a Korean drama movie not for the faint of heart as it touches on difficult subjects such as child physical/sexual abuse. It's based on real life events...

I recommend "Love Me If You Dare" (Jeux d'enfants — "Children's Games"), it's a French movie, a RomCom-Drama. I loved it because it's not like the typical love story. Well, at least for me.

I saw Commitment (Korean Movie) while it was open here in LA. Great movie IMO. Oh, also T.O.P.(BIGBANG) is the star of the film.

Not sure if it's out on DVD or Blu-Ray yet.

I recently watched "Like father, like son" (そして父に成る - Soshite chichi ni naru), which won the Jury Prize and got a Special Mention from the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury in Cannes Film Festival 2013, and I have to say it's a wonderful movie by Koreeda Hirokazu. Full of finesse, very emotional bud not sad and with stunning acting performances, with special mention to the children. My favorite Koreeda movie so far. A masterpiece.

Romance/Drama:

Millionaire's First Love (Korean)

Romantic Comedy:

Penny Pinchers (Korean)

Probably my favorite movie because it's a light-hearted drama and looks at life from two completely different point of views.

There are lots of Filipino films which are considered world class in my opinion. I highly recommend the following:

Ganito Kami Noon, Paano Kayo Ngayon? (1976, now digitally restored)
Cain at Abel (1982)
Sister Stella L. (1984)
Working Girls (better watch the 1984 original!)
Jose Rizal (1998)
Muro Ami (1999)
Dekada 70 (2002)
Panaghoy sa Suba (2004, one of the first top-grossing Visayan languaged films in the country)
Rosario (2010)
On the Job (2013)
Four Sisters and a Wedding (2013)

Please look for English subtitles for your viewing pleasure! Wink

If there's one in particular I would recommend, it would be Akira Kurosawa's Ikiru, but mostly because it's my favourite film of all time.
