RE food. Some Japanese people may find local Malaysian (and by the same token, Singaporean/Indonesian/Thai) cuisine to be a bit... "strong" for their systems. It's understandable that they didn't take the risk before the show.

If it was up to me, I'd whisk them away at night to PJ SS2 where a certain nasi lemak stall is located..
