My hometown in Macon, GA, USA is unofficially the cherry blossom capital of the world. 40 years ago, a local developer and wealthy housewife who loved the Yoshino cherry tree teamed up together to spread the trees around the whole city. They started with 500 planted in one neighborhood, but the developer and his estate have donated literally thousands of cherry trees every year to the city, local homeowners, and landscaping companies. It is estimated that in a city of about 400,000 people, there are between 300,000-350,000 Yoshino cherry trees.

Macon has a sister city in Japan (Naguro, I believe) and they send representatives to the festival every year. I sometimes wonder if they're surprised at how many cherry blossom trees there are in such a relatively small town in the USA.

Unfortunately, it's incredibly doubtful that Scandal or any other Japanese rock band will every visit the Macon Cherry Blossom Festival....
