Hello all!

I'm from the Bay Area in Northern California, and have just gotten into the band. So far I love their sound. I came from more of a classic rock to metal to post-hardcore progression in music taste.  Within the last few years, I found myself falling in love with the Japanese culture and most specifically their music and how lively their rock scene is.

I've heard of SCANDAL from Star Driver, FMA, and their rendition of Anohana's Secret Base, but never really delved deep into their music until this last month in preparation for their SF show (which had unfortunately run out of VIP tickets =\ ).  I just love their stage presence from all the live performances available on youtube.  Honey's been on repeat for me since I heard Platform Syndrome as a suggestion from a friend. Just blown away, so much so that I want to do a loose imitation of Mami's Red Strat. (I like the natural headstock)

Coming from a bit heavier of a background brought me to Japanese bands like coldrain, My First Story, sokoninaru, and Dir en Grey.  Then I chilled out a bit, checked out some indigo la end, Polkadot Stingray, and tricot.  After getting the chance to check out tricot live in SF with their original lineup, i did more digging into the female fronted bands and saw SCANDAL again.

I, like many others i assume, love the dynamic within the band, four musicians that get along really well and make kickass music.  I'm looking forward to seeing them in a couple months.

I'm always be down for some suggestions! Anyways, nice to meet you all!

(Current) Favorite Tracks: Koe -acoustic-, Platform Syndrome, Standard, Take Me Out, Koisuru Universe, Futari

Hello too akko_! And welcome to Scandal Heaven!  Nice one

I couldn't say much about the technicalities of SCANDAL's music to you because you seem more knowledgeable and experienced than me (in rock music) but I assure you they're one of a kind. They have this chemistry you rarely see in a band, not even in those mainstream (int'n) ones, and their music is full of passion, emotion and yeah, kickass. Also, if there's a word fitting for the combined meaning of CUTE, COOL and BEAUTIFUL, it would be SCANDAL!

Your current favs are the news ones, I see. Except for Koe. It appears you are still scratching at YT's surface. Haha. Dig deeper and you'll find treasures like Queens are Trump and Shoujo S.

I hope you will have the chance to watch them live in the future. I'm a relatively new fan of theirs too but SH made me feel like a longtime fan and I'm sure you will feel it too. Welcome to the forum and enjoy!

Welcome akko, to Scandal Heaven.

I'm actually the opposite of you, I got to know SCANDAL first, then I started to find interest in band music and rock.

Like so, I'm a Newbie to rock music but I could suggest you some SCANDAL's songs.

If you'd like some harder, more rock-ish songs, go for
Onegai Navigation, Rainy, Flashback NO.5, Hoshi No Furu Yoru Ni, Metronome, Hi-Hi-Hi, Namida Yo Hikare (Pop Punk)

If you'd like not as hard songs, go for
Chiisana Honoo, Image, Scandal Baby, Kan Biiru, Departure, Morning Sun, One Piece, S.L. Magic

And carrying on with peachclub's suggestion, if you feel yourself seeking shelter in emotional or sad-ish songs, I suggest Namida no Regret (personal fav), One Piece, Haruka, Chiiasano Hono, and Morning Sun. Their cover of 'secret base' is also tremendous.

Welcome to the forum, akko_

I’m down in Southern CA, and like you I lean more towards hard rock and heavy metal.  Thanks to Scandal I’ve discovered some other great all-female, hard rock bands from Japan that I can recommend checking out.  Of course, personally speaking, none are as enjoyable as Scandal.

Band-Maid
Aldious
Doll$Boxx
Lovebites
Mary’s Blood
Destrose
Cyntia
Mutant Monster
Specialthanks (female-fronted power pop/punk — my favorite after Scandal)
Lie and a Chameleon

Thank you all for the warm welcome!
Yeah I am much more acquainted with the more recent stuff, but so far haven't heard a song I disliked.  Thank you all for the suggestions. I'll do my best to prepare myself for the SF concert. I'm so pumped to see them live.  Probably going to try to learn Futari on guitar some time soon, there's just something about that song I seriously dig haha, then maybe to play/sing the acoustic rendition of Koe.

What else does everyone here like/listen to?

You're welcome akko.  .clap.

So pumped up to hear someone being pumped up for an upcoming SCANDAL show. haha. And maybe you can share your cover sometime in the future too.

Personally, it's gotta be Shoujo S for me. Namida no Regret for the sad songs. Stamp!, Koe, SCANDAL Nanka Buttobase, Ring! Ring! Ring!, Awanai Tsumori no Genki de ne, and Departure are also favorites to say the few.

Also, this is the point where someone will suggest this thread:

Well, it's official, just picked up the tickets. September can't come soon enough.

As far as covers go, maybe haha, I'm definitely more of a singer than guitar player as of now, but I want to try my hand at doing both at once. Hopefully level up a bit on guitar, caught some inspiration lately.

I'll go give those a listen ASAP, and will check out that thread. Thanks again!

Welcome!

Welcome to the greatest site for the greatest fans of the GREATEST BAND IN EXISTENCE! Does that sound obsessive? GOOD! It's meant to!

Do yourself a favor and find the oldest stuff they did and work through their timeline in progression. It is a wonderful journey.

I just discovered SCANDAL within the last year. On one hand, I curse the fate that kept them from my area of awareness for so many years. On the other, I praise God for blessing me with their discovery.

I don't say this lightly. I was there when Elvis became the King, and the "British Invasion" changed the face of music forever. All of my all-time favorites from blues, country, classic rock, heavy metal, jazz, whatever! They all take a back seat to SCANDAL!

In my honest opinion, SCANDAL takes music to a level I never quite thought possible. Sorry if I got a "little" preachy here, but I just spent a whole day trying to resist spouting this stuff to my friends & co-workers!

Anyway, there's no better group of people to share your enthusiasm with, and the staff are the best of the best! Enjoy!

 Thanks  - Dave

I kind of started binge listening to their stuff via the SCANDAL (2017) greatest hits album.  Just hearing some of their older stuff makes me really happy. I've gotten the chance to listen to Hello World and Standard in their entirety aside from Honey, which I'm absolutely obsessed with.  I really enjoy everything I've heard.

What are your personal favorite album and song of theirs out of curiosty?

My favorite album was Honey when it first came out but it changed to Hello World when I listened to it more, every song is just great, plus it has every member's solo song in it. Favorite song of mine is probably Onegai Navigation from the Hello World album.

I also listen a lot to Kana-Boon, Frederic, Shishamo, Maon Kurosaki, Lisa, Kotoko, Dazzle vision, Nijicon, Perfume and Stereo Pony.

Hope you will have the time to explore some of them Wink
