The rockabilly scene in Tokyo has been almost everywhere on Youtube for the past 10 months. Thanks to 5 Seconds of Summer’s music video “Youngblood”. Both of the music video actors are actual musicians. One of them is Johnny Daigo, where you can watch his own music video below.

As a blues and retro cool fan, I like it! Although, there are lots of modern sensibility sound and structure-wise because of modern day recording.

Feel free to post your thoughts about the Japanese rockabilly scene.

I've been looking for this on YouTube/Google but would still like recommendations.

I'll check out those bands you guys mentioned to start off with.

BTW, I saw a bunch of rockabillies doing/strutting their stuff at the entrance of Yoyogi-koen near Harajuku on a Sunday afternoon a few year's back and took some videos. One of the songs they were dancing to was Rock and Roll Music which was originally done by Chuck Berry and another famous version was by The Beatles.

However, that version that I caught on video was of a faster tempo (like The Beatles' version) and defo sounded like a cover by a Japanese band/artiste.

Anyone have any leads on this or was this a figment of my aural imagination?

Grin

I just discovered another cool rockabilly band debuted in 2019 called The Biscats.

The band is composed of Misaki Aono (daughter of Koji Kume of the '80s rockabilly band Black Cats) guitarist Kenji, and upright bassist Suke. It's a shame that their drummer Ikuo left the band a few weeks ago due to health reasons.

Check out their brand new single "Sweet Jukebox"

I'm sure you're familiar with this song!
