Kanta ni? Kowai yo!

MAMI's scared of improv!!

Hahaha... So cute when she said that. Our Mami isn't comfortable with improvisation eh? So she DOES have a weakness. Granted, improv isn't the easiest thing to learn. I've been playing on and off for years and I only cracked the theory behind improv three weeks ago after months of intense practise...

Nomura-san is really cool in the vid. I hope Mami will meet more veteran players in her time. Their knowledge and experience is priceless and she will become even better!

Not suprised. Been watching your vids. Nice and clean, good technique. I regret the "off" part of my "on and off" playing.. Sad

I totally agree. I've always thought Mami is a great guitarist despite she started playing guitar not so long ago. I really like listening to her and of course she will improve and become greater! <3

the talent is there but raw. who cares? mami is more than enough for scandal. he can do much better than that. her lines are precise. i wanna see/hear mami longer guitar solo part. i like the way she does in "ring ring ring" and short solo in taiyo.

oh yeah she did an amazing job on Ring Ring Ring it shows her more rock and roll roots, add her guitar playing on Everybody Say Yeah too and I'd say she's already good at what she does, and the fun thing about her or them is that they keep on improving and growing as the years pass.

I think Mami is the best guitarrist to show up in the last 10 years (in Asia). I like her solos, and I would much rather if it lasted longer... When they play live she can demonstrate even better.

Onyx wrote:Yes, Mami is pretty amazing considering how new a guitarist she really is, and I imagine her skills will continue to improve. In the end what matters is that her fans like her guitarplay, that the rest of SCANDAL is happy with her, and that she herself feels good about it.

As for me, I happily listen to her because I like her and the way she sounds (both her guitar and her voice actually), and I really don't care if there are other guitarists with more experience or skill, but who don't necessarily play in a way I like. So, yes, her guitar skills are enough. Mami all the way!

Onion Love Love Mami and SCANDAL!

To prove that, I advise every one to actually see the video "Koi Moyou" and "Scandal Baby"...and compare her skills between the two...This shows that they're improving very well for a girl who only learned to play guitar for only a year and a half, and improving on their own!!! So, yay MAMI!!!

Let's not forget that she's been full-time only since March 2009. Before that it was high-school, and I hear that school in Japan is pretty demanding.

As the OP said, she won't become one of the best guitarists of all time, for sure. But it'll be interesting to see how much better she'll get with age. She's already pretty good. And pretty pretty.

For me, having absolutely zero musical talent, I probably cannot truly appreciate the technical aspect of playing the guitar, so as far as I'm concerned her skills are great. Will she be remembered in the same light as, say, Santana or Jimi Hendrix - maybe, maybe not, but with any band it's not about one member and it's not even solely about the technical skills of the band as a whole.

There's a lot that goes into what makes a band successful - their chemistry together, stage charisma, how they treat their fans, etc. With all of that, even if Mami's guitar skills aren't legendary, I still enjoy listening to Scandal, and obviously being on this forum I'm not alone in this. As others have pointed out, she'll only improve as she gets more experience, and that folks is going to be frickin' awesome.

I was not impressed by Mami's guitar skills when I first started listening to
Scandal but like everyone says she has got better.
She just needs more confidence, she still has to look down at what she is doing and
I am sure we would all like to see her face more !

The only way to get better at playing guitar is practise and she gets plenty of
that !

Like Belz said High school in Japan is pretty demanding, I have friends there and for most of them it is school all day and then 'cram' school until 10pm in the
evening, so I am amazed she found the time to learn at all !

she's amazing in her own way. the way she play the solo part, is enuff to convince me that she is getting better, and she is somehow unstoppable. she got her own 'style' that makes me really amused on her. same goes to all the other band members. growing, they are. getting better, they are. Nice one

in my opinion MAMI not have skills enough...but she started playing when Scandal was born! She's talented

For SCANDAL's styles MAMI is a perfect guitar player.

skills is not everything... a good musician must have charisma, love of what makes, not just play for fame, have a passion for music and surely MAMI is a good musician...

Love her performances on stage

EHHH MAMI CAN ROCK!!

Hohoho Onion

I agree, and have you noticed Mami still wears a longer skirt than the
other girls !
When they started people used to call Mami the Samurai because she was always calm and dignified.
