Not an easy question for me because I might underestimate bands that are actually not underestimated lol. Anyway, I think about Cyntia and Lovendor. The second one will make his major debut next month. Great musicians and I didn't expect Reina Tanaka's voice being that good live (her voice matches the instruments well). Plus having 2 singers is pretty cool I think.

Honestly speaking, I know only few Japanese bands and as far as I know some, I can't say they are underrated. But I know there are some, or maybe they're only just beginning to the music industry.

Thanks for sharing some bands, I think we can give them some chance to prove their music anyway.

These are popular rock bands from Japan yet less talked about overseas:

The Bawdies - 1960s inspired rock n' roll band

Pay Money to My Pain (now disbanded after Kei Goto's death) - best known for Ultraseven X ending theme

Tourbillion - a muscial project in 2000s consists of a few Luna Sea and D-Loop members

The first band that comes to mind when you say "underrated" is SHISHAMO

Besides them I think "back number" is an amazing band that isn't very well known, more so overseas

In my opinion , one of the most underestimated Japanese collectives is Gekijo METALicche . Such a great band – but they still have less than 1000 likes on Facebook ! I’m always surprise and sad that serious J-Rock fans don’t support them .
Below you can see a few examples of their artworks .

I actually really like Draft King. Nohana, Shiho, and Mao (formerly of Stereopony) all provide a solid instrumental background, and Erica's voice is really coming along from the early days of the band's formation. Their last two singles have both been, in my opinion, pretty solid for the genre.

Edit: Now that I'm home, I can post links to videos.

Also, another group that I can't see is getting much attention is The SxPlay. They're pretty solid, and their lead singer has a ridiculously good voice.
