I think it's cool that artists like Ayumi Hamasaki and Namie Amuro are still so popular after being in the business for almost 20 years. Even Utada Hikaru has hinted on her blog that she's got a new album in the works after a five year hiatus, and people are excited about that. It's cool when artists can have that kind of longevity and maintain their relevance across generations.

I hope Scandal can do the same thing.

Well Scandal will have been about 10 years next year so they are no flash in the pan !

^^ well namie is in on a total different level rn. both ayu and utada are famous for their past hit tracks, but people (especially young generation) probably don't know the most recent releases and/or don't really care.

What I find incredible is that this ayu's live was a fan club tour only. I knew RINA is a big fan of her but I never thought she would have been a member of her fan club *__* my fan heart can't hold all these feelings ahah

might be a bit offtopic to reply, but j-melo reflects overseas fandom not the japanese one. utada is still living strong thanks to kingdom hearts fans and recently popped up in evangelion's fandom too but her upcoming album will not reach platinum for sure. all the veterans of jpops are just veterans with solid fanbase (for this reason namie is something different because she follows the trend and she doesn't have an 'artist' aura around her, just a performer one)

I'm actually glad rina has such a strong artist to look up to. ayu is one of the few female artist in japan that always stayed true to herself and still does it nowadays. I hope scandal will follow the same path
