SCANDAL WORLD TOUR 2020 “Kiss from the darkness” Update

First, we would like to thank all of our loyal fans for your continued support.

As the domestic performances for SCANDAL WORLD TOUR 2020 “Kiss from the darkness” had been postponed to prevent the spread of COVID-19,we continued to prepare for the rescheduled dates. However, due to restrictions placed on indoor events even after the ending of emergency measures, the difficulty in holding a completely safe tour, as well as the unclear venue schedules, we are announcing that we must unfortunately cancel [the Japan performances on] this tour.

We would like to express our sincere apologies for this unfortunate outcome to all fans who were looking forward to our shows. Information regarding ticket refunds will be available through SCANDAL’s official website. If you are a ticketholder, please be sure to visit our website.

While we are incredibly sad to announce the cancellation of the tour, we will be performing a livestream concert on August 21st (Friday), which also commemorates our 14th anniversary.

We will do our utmost best to recreate the same concert experience that we originally planned for the tour, including the setlist, outfits, stage lights and visuals, etc.

Not being able to deliver the best live experience with everyone is heartbreaking, but we look forward to delivering a new and improved experience to all fans. Please join us on this special day.

Additionally, we are excited to announce that we will be kicking off a special tour as we head towards our 15th anniversary.

Lastly, we wish for everyone’s safety, the end to the pandemic, and the return of our everyday lives.

Feeling bad for them, canceling a few shows is bad but having to cancel an entire tour must be hard :/

Also, hope all the staff involved on the tour is doing ok without being able to work. Tough times we're all having.

Again, right now the only shows that have been canceled are the Japan performances.

Asia performances remain postponed, and the Europe and North America performances are technically still supposed to be held as of this moment (this will probably change, though).

Ever hear of Vantablack? It's a material/paint so dark that when you look at it, you feel like your eyes have stopped working. Scandal is going to experience the peformance version of that. With no real audience to play to, they're not going to experience the rush seeing and hearing thousands of waving, cheering fans. I've sent a message to the "Catch Up" radio show suggesting they buy a bunch of action figures, and make a tiny audience to play to. At least it would give them something to look at. I also suggested they go ahead and talk between songs. They were pretty quiet during that YouTube live stream, like they felt it was a recording session instead of a performance. Onstage chat would be so great, and they could cheer each other on. Above all, I hope they find a way to have fun doing it.

Livestream is a good idea. Maybe they could also host a virtual M&G. I think it would be pretty cool and no those long lines, unnecessary trips, etc. They could do something like a short chat with a photo booth session.

They are planning to do some kind of virtual M&G, as there was suppose to be M&G lottery for the Japan tour.

CLUB SCANDAL (mobile fan club) members have a lottery for this, there will be 28 participates.

Today June 14th I watched a different artists (FLOWER FLOWER's) eplus streaming+ live stream, the eplus platform it based on Vimeo, but by the time Scandal do their stream they would have moved to amazon, so it may be different.

eplus requires you to login to your eplus account to view, (which is why I told many people to wait for the overseas service, when its announced.)

They start the stream about 15mins before scheduled, but the problem with eplus is if you have not logged in, you will struggle to login to the system as it will be congested (same case when trying to buy general release tickets on any Japanese online ticket office) so they had to delay the start of the stream by 20mins as people could not login.

There was a vimeo chat window, but you could only sign in as a guest during the live stream (i.e. you can not sign in with vimeo chat with your vimeo account/sns login etc) Chat was only enabled during the live broadcast.

Assume similar setup, multiple camera stage, each band member had a iPad to look at the chat, but they noticed there was a long time lag during their MC talk.

The video (up to the band decision) it archived for 24 hours for playback.
The archived video on vimeo gets moved from different cloud services, so the quality can up down whilst its being moved.

So I suspect it will be a similar setup for Scandal's upcoming live stream.
(I'm also watching another eplus live stream next weekend, so will update if they do anything different)

Did you guys realise that for the first time ever, Scandal fans from across the world can watch Scandal perform live at the exact same time? Although it's disappointing it's not a physical live, I'm looking forward to sharing this experience with many more fans than a local concert could have held.

but sadly missed the Red Bull stream and had to watch a blurry version on YouTube Sad

What I meant was a live intended for a physical audience? The two streams above were in a studio with no audience and the members clearly knew that too, so they hardly did any talking and just played through the setlist. There wasn't even enough space for Tomomi to do her usual dancing. So the "Scandal live" feel was lost even though it was in fact Scandal doing a livestream. Whereas they made it clear that the KFTD livestream will replicate a physical live. I don't know if I'm making sense here lolol

I know exactly what you mean, here in the UK Football has started again with no audience and some players said it is nice but others have said it is not the same without the people urging them on, we want SCANDAL to act as if they are playing to a real audience Happy

With their domestic fans and international fans all tuning in at the same time, the size of the audience might actually be like playing to a full stadium, which I'm sure would be an amazing feeling for them if they could see us.

This may be a little off-topic, but just yesterday several jpop/rock artistes livestreamed performances on YouTube as part of a larger ONLINE YATSUI FESTIVAL! 2020. Watched a couple and for those that replicated a setup meant for a physical audience, it was really awkward when they tried talking to the audience because there was clearly no response. So I hope Scandal can find a way to overcome that awkwardness smoothly

^To add to that Silent Siren did something similar yesterday with a live stage performance, anyone who listens to them knows how much they get into "crowd participation" but they were able to pull it off quite nicely. Some of them even tried mimicking audience noises.

I believe Scandal would pull it off very well, too so I'm not too worry about it. Wink

But I agree it can be a bit awkward at times but only if the members make it awkward.

At first I was sceptical about no audience shows, but the Mary's Blood livestream proved me wrong, it was really fun, during the songs i didn't care about the lack of audience at all, and the pauses between the songs went smoothly tganks to online interactions with fans and between bandmembers. Really looking forward to this show now!
