Overdrive had a bit of extra Nakata fan hype, but other than that it's basically performing on par with previous pre-album singles. I have hopes that the album will be their best selling yet so its sales is what really matters.

I just received my Image CD single from a friend. I'm glad she found one at Tower Shibuya.

Let's accept that it won't fare well to the charts because many fans are most likely saving up for their forthcoming album. On the brighter side, fans and music critics alike (if there is any in Japan) are surely appreciating "Image" and "Nai-Nai Night 2014". For me, I consider "Image" SCANDAL's strongest songs of all time just behind "Awanai".

I was at Tsutaya in Shibuya a couple of hours ago, and got to see this in the flesh:



Was so excited I still bought one despite my CDJ order awaiting dispatch. ^^

Here's my record review on Image. Few sentences are enough to prevent "spoilers".

Image - This alternative metal song brings back the grungeman in me. Mami has been consistent with her songwriting for the past six months. She is also not shy of unleashing her new guitar tricks. Perhaps, it is their heaviest and strongest singles at this time.

Nai-Nai Night 2014 - Tomomi does it again! Too bad it is just a B-side song. The raw, dark and quirky acoustic feel reminds me of the early works of Joni Mitchell meets Genesis. The song would sound better if they release it on vinyl.

3rd week #94 with 720 copies! (total: 14,519)

In a third week, only Yumemiru Tsubasa and Sakura GOODBYE sold less and that was back in... 2009.

I think we might be reading too much into the sale of physical CDs relative to previous years. With the ever increasing prevalence of digital play-back devices, the Compact Disc is a virtual dinosaur doomed to extinction.

I'd be far more interested in seeing the digital sale numbers. I know that information is available somewhere. I just looked at Amazon, for example, and pretty much the entire album's songs are listed as being "popular." No telling how many downloads that equates to, though, since they don't give that info out.

Well I think it's fun to check the official stats with have for the sales on Oricon. Of course we do know it's only a part of the story, Oricon is only physicals sales on japanese soil... So yeah it's obviously not 100 % accurate and it doesn't count the rest. But it's still a nice stat to have, everyone can treat it as he wants to.

I'd really love to know what the digital sales are like, though.

I seem to remember a few years ago that one of Utada Hikaru's releases was the number #1 download on iTunes on the first day of it's release. I'm kind of perplexed as to why that kind of data is so much harder to obtain than physical sales.
