•The episode starts with this. TOMO guesses gymnastics, which is incorrect. MAMI says that she was close. TOMO goes, "What do you mean by 'close'?" HARU says that if it had been gymnastics, then they probably would have said that it uses equipment. TOMO goes, "So it's an Olympic sport that doesn't use equipment?" and then guesses rhythmic gymnastics. HARU says that that's not it either. Ono says that they can give her one more chance to answer correctly and let her ask one more question, which is dubbed the "Final SCAN." TOMO says that she has no idea what it could be, and she's so clueless that she has no idea what question to ask. HARU laughs at this. Ono says that she did ask some good questions previously and the others agree. HARU says that she did narrow it down quite a bit. TOMO thinks for a second before going "Ah, does it need a lot of time to do?" There's a pause before RINA goes, "Aah, it doesn't!" and that compared to some of the really long competitions, she'd say no. TOMO laughs and goes, "Wait a minute! I had been thinking I had gotten it, too!" and the others laugh as well. They agree that it is difficult to guess. TOMO gives "short-distance race" as her final answer, which is incorrect. The others say that that answer does make sense. The correct answer is revealed and TOMO goes, "Ahh!!" really loudly and wails. The correct answer is judo. TOMO again says that that was difficult. MAMI says that there's a delicate balance between simply answering yes or no to a question. With judo, you have to wear a judogi and obi, but is that considered "equipment"? TOMO agrees and in the sense that a racket is needed in tennis, equipment like that is not needed in judo.

•Next is MAMI. She holds up her subject and the others go, "Ahh." MAMI asks if it's an Olympic sport. They answer that it is. She thinks about what her next question should be and says that it is difficult to come up with one, and that they'll probably all end up asking the same questions. They say that it's okay. MAMI then asks, like TOMO, if equipment is used in it. They say yes. MAMI's lastly asks if anyone among them have played this sport before. They say yes. MAMI pauses before going, "Ehh? Ah...! Oh...! ...eh?!" She goes over the questions asked and then keeps thinking about what it could be. She then says that she has it narrowed down to three options. The others say that that's impressive. MAMI finally guesses volleyball, which is incorrect. They let her choose the "Final SCAN." MAMI asks if the equipment needed is a ball. They say no, and that that was a good question. She guesses high jump, which is incorrect. The correct answer is badminton. MAMI goes, "Okay, I get it." The others laugh and RINA says she's so calm about it.

•Next up is RINA. She first asks if it's an indoor sport. They say yes. She then asks if it requires a lot of people. HARU is the only one that answers and says no. She's confused and tries to confirm that it is a no. They agree that if asked if it requires a lot of people, the answer is no. RINA's last question is if take a long time to play. There's a pause before the others go, "Hmm..." They say that it's not short, so they'll have to say yes to it taking a long time. HARU says that she thinks it's been narrowed down quite a bit. RINA takes a long time trying to think of what it could be. TOMO reminds her that she will get to answer one more question if she gets it wrong. RINA guesses basketball, which is incorrect. Ono says that he thinks RINA could get it in one more question, depending on the question asked. RINA then asks if it was a club activity in school. They say yes. MAMI says that it's been narrowed down quite a bit. RINA guesses ping-pong. There's a pause, which makes her go, "Oh, is that wrong?", but the "ding-dong" sound plays right after, indicating that she was correct. She says that that was difficult.

•Last up for the sports round is HARU. When she reveals the subject to the others, they all go, "Ahh..." dejectedly. HARU laughs at that. She asks if it's an Olympic sport. The others say yes but not right away. HARU mentions that they didn't say yes right away. TOMO says that she didn't know, and MAMI laughs and says didn't either. HARU asks if it's played indoors. They say yes. TOMO says that it depends. MAMI goes, "Then that means it is played indoors." Ono reminds them they only can answer yes or no. HARU asks if it requires a lot of people. They say yes. MAMI says that it's probably been narrowed down a lot, with it being an indoor sport that requires a lot of people. Ono says that there are still a lot of options that could fit, which MAMI does agree with. HARU says that she can't think of anything at all, and then answers volleyball. That is incorrect. She then tries to think of the last question to answer, but says that she can't think of one at all. They all laugh. HARU asks if the players are tall. They say yes. She guesses basketball, which is correct.

•They move on to the next category, which is about song titles from their album Kiss from the darkness. They say that that sounds hard. TOMO goes first again. She asks if HARU sings the song. They say yes. TOMO asks if the song's about love. They say no. TOMO then goes, "Hold on a second..." and HARU reminds her that the category is KFTD (which doesn't feature many songs about love). They all laugh. TOMO says that she might be the worst one at this category since they weren't able to tour for this album (pandemic and all). She says that she first needs to start by recalling the songs on the album, but she doesn't even know what song the album starts with. MAMI says that instead of trying to remember what songs are on that album, it'd be better to choose from the songs that it could be narrowed down to. TOMO says that wouldn't work since she has about 80 candidates in her head right now. She then asks if it has a fast BPM. They say no, and then clarify that it's not fast when it comes to SCANDAL songs. TOMO again laughs and wonders what songs are even on the album. The others laugh as well. RINA says that she'd love to show them to her [but can't]. MAMI says to narrow down the titles of their more recent songs. TOMO guesses "Ceramic Blue," which is incorrect. She then goes, "Eh, isn't that on KFTD?" RINA says that it is.

•For her last question, TOMO asks if they've performed it live recently. They say yes. TOMO says that that must mean that they played it on their most recent tour (Kanshasai vol.2). There's a pause before she goes, "Eh, is there such a song??" They laugh and say that there is. TOMO says that she also doesn't remember what the setlist was, and they also laugh at this. TOMO tries to think of what the setlist was and goes, "It started with 'Highlight no Naka de Bokura Zutto,' right?" The others laugh at how TOMO's trying to get to the answer this way. She lists the first 8 or songs correctly-ish, most of which are older songs that came before KFTD. She says that all of them listed so far aren't it. She gets through half of the setlist and up to "Ai ni Naranakatta no sa" (song #11) before MAMI goes, "Is it okay to let her ask one more question instead?" They all laugh at this. TOMO asks if it's in the last block of the setlist. They say no. TOMO goes, "Ehh?? So is it the next song [after 'Ai ni Naranakatta no sa']?? Huh? Maybe the encore?" There's a pause before RINA laughs and says that it's in the first block. TOMO goes, "Ehh?? It is??" HARU says that TOMO had even said it. TOMO starts going over the first songs again. She lists the first 3 songs but forgets what came after "STANDARD." RINA tries reminding her, and TOMO says "Saishuuheiki[, Kimi]." She then slowly goes, "Sai..shuu...hei...ki...??", which is the correct answer. They all laugh hard. TOMO goes, "That's from KFTD?" They say yes. She says she thought that song was released earlier than that.

•Next up is MAMI. She goes, "I might guess it right? 'Saishuu'...It's not 'Saishuuheiki,'" and laughs while the *bzzt* buzzer sound plays. The others laugh and say that's not it. She says she hasn't even drawn her subject yet. She says she also doesn't know what song KFTD starts with, and then asks if they've played the song recently. They say no. She says if it's a song she wrote the lyrics and music for. They say no. HARU says that was a good question. MAMI again questions what song KFTD starts with and they all laugh again. TOMO says that they likely would have known the album better if they had been able to hold the tour for it. MAMI asks if the song falls under the "intense" category of SCANDAL songs. They say no. She again tries recalling what songs could be on the album and mentions that if "Saishuuheiki, Kimi" is on it, then it must mean that "A.M.D.K.J." is also from that time. HARU quietly says something like, "Oh, yeah, that song is from that time," sounding like she had forgotten about that. MAMI then tries guessing which year the album came out and thinks it's 2020, which RINA confirms. MAMI says that means that songs like "eternal," "Ivory," and "one more time" are not on KFTD. With that being the case, she tries to narrow down what the likely candidates are. She says that "Ceramic Blue" is not a candidate (since the lyrics & music are written by MAMI). RINA goes, "You can do it!" MAMI laughs and says, "I can?" RINA says yes, and that she's getting pretty close to the answer.

•MAMI then says that she's trying to recall their KFTD livestream concert. The others say that's a good idea. HARU says that was a really nerve-racking day. MAMI says that all she remembers is that it was nerve-racking. HARU reminds MAMI that this song isn't written by her. MAMI says she gets that, but she's unsure of which songs that fit the bill are from the KFTD era. She says that since the album came out before the pandemic started, "Living in the city" is not part of it (which is true--it's actually on MIRROR). She then goes, "'Laundry Laundry' was on MIRROR, right?" No one says anything, which makes MAMI make a pouting noise and she laughs. The others start laughing at that noise. Ono tells her to say an answer. MAMI goes, "I don't know what it is!" He and RINA say to just say something. There's a pause before MAMI says to wait a minute. They all laugh. RINA says to just let the feeling of getting it wrong go and just go for it. HARU and TOMO agree, and HARU reminds MAMI that she has another question she could ask after. MAMI says that she really doesn't know what it could be, and then finally answers "LOVE," which is incorrect (lol that's from YELLOW, released in 2016). MAMI's last question is if RINA wrote the song. They say no. MAMI says she figured that was the case, which they all laugh at. She says that that means either HARU or TOMO wrote the song, but she still doesn't remember what other songs on KFTD. She goes, "I really don't know! I'm suffering!" They all laugh hard at this. Ono says to just say an answer. MAMI says that she really can't recall any of the song titles. RINA says that she's so close. TOMO says that there was something she had been mistaken about earlier. MAMI says that she thinks she knows now, and answers "Laundry Laundry," which is correct. She says she was sweating. HARU says that MAMI had said the correct answer earlier. TOMO says that her song on MIRROR is "Ai no Shoutai." MAMI says that she had a feeling that song was more recent. Ono says that that round was super entertaining. MAMI says that it was like time stopped when she had first mentioned "Laundry Laundry." The others laugh and say it was.

•After the band eats some Meiji Bulgaria Yogurt, the episode closes with comments from SCANDAL after the finale of their Kanshasai vol.2 tour. HARU says that a lot of happenings occured that day, that she felt all sorts of emotions during this 15th anniversary of their major debut, and that she really felt the strength of the four of them. RINA says that she felt that because the four of them are together that they're able to put on shows like that. TOMO says that she felt their bonds with the audience, and that it was a really great night.

The year-end and New Year holidays are very busy! What goes on behind the scenes for a part-time miko (shrine maiden)?

Season 2, Episode 31 blog

Radio Program - 『SCANDAL Catch up supported by Meiji Bulgaria Yogurt』 - Page 4 8StBzff

HARUNA: We're going to be reading messages about part-time jobs sent in to commemorate the release of Highlight no Naka de Bokura Zutto! We've received many stories about them.

RINA: It seems that today might be the last time we're doing this segment.

HARUNA: The segment was to commemorate the release, after all.

RINA: It was a really good segment. I wonder what kind of messages we'll get today.

NAMI

When I was a college student, I had four different part-time jobs. I was always working three at a time, but they were all interesting. Among them, I was impressed by the miko job at the shrine in front of my house. My grandfather was a community committee member and served as a district officer, so I started out as a part of his assistance. As a result, I started working at the shrine from high school and continued for six years until I graduated from college.

Surprisingly, there was a variety of work throughout the year, and of course the busiest time was the year-end and New Year's holidays. On New Year's Eve, I go to work at 23:00 and return home around 2:00 over the New Year. I was close to home, so I went to work at 7:00 again that day (January 1). I was sleepy and my miko costume was freezing because of all the cold air coming in. I don't know how many body warmers I had stuck here and there... And then I continued to work until about January 6. I don't remember taking much time to relax during New Year's Day... I thought I would like to count down the days while watching Downtown no Gaki no Tsukai ya Arahende!! and Kohaku Uta Gassen.

I also played the shinobue flute to lead an entrance at a wedding, played the shinobue flute at seasonal festivals, handed out sweets to children at Shichigosan, threw beans at Setsubun, performed the miko dance at a festival in a country town on business, and so on. I also learned the unique use of language and colorful manners.

I felt comfortable with the priests and priestesses (a position below the chief priest), who were like grandfathers to me. I made a good friend at that part-time job, and we are still good friends to this day. We are still good friends and I always go see him when I go back to my hometown.

HARUNA: A part-time job as a miko, huhー.

MAMI: There were a lot of technical terms.

TOMOMI: The flute is also played by part-time workers, huh.

HARUNA: Must be hard to practice.

TOMOMI: Miko jobs were really popular on Try-Yaru Week.

HARUNA: There was such a thing??

TOMOMI: There was. Everyone wanted to wear miko costumes. It was very popular. There were only two slots available.

RINA: I didn't know there were part-time jobs like that.

MAMI: It's very hectic during events.

HARUNA: They say you have to work consecutive days during New Year's.

TOMOMI: But I thought it would be cold.

RINA: Of course it is cold. I guess they are getting more and more work now, like dealing with visitors from abroad.

Radio Program - 『SCANDAL Catch up supported by Meiji Bulgaria Yogurt』 - Page 4 On3854d

•The episode starts with this.

•MAMI reads the next message from a listener who say they're a freelancer who has worked at various part-time jobs, and has found that restaurants are the best place for them. They would always be targeted by a mean old lady due to their short stature and appearance. She'd watch them work and would get angry if they did anything she didn't like, regardless of whether they made a mistake or not, and would give them a warning. There was a time when they were afraid to work part-time because the same thing happened to them every place they worked at. HARU goes, "I totally get that!" TOMO asks if she's experienced that before. HARU says yes, and that she's experienced it once before. She says that it also might have been due to her short stature. TOMO laughs and goes, "Really?" HARU says she isn't sure, and then explains how when she was in high school, there was a senior worker who was a college student and was kind of a jerk and was always unpleasant. They kept telling HARU to end her shift early, and would bring their college friends with them to the front of HARU's high school for some reason. The others are confused and TOMO asks for what reason they did this. HARU says she doesn't know. MAMI asks if this person was a man. HARU says that it was actually a woman and that she'd say things like she was in front of the high school earlier today with some guys in a car. RINA says that it sounds like she was trying to show off, being older and all. HARU says that she was quite a bit younger, being a first-year high schooler (10th grade, between the ages of 14-15), and was the youngest one working there. She doesn't recalled being pampered, but she guesses she kind of didn't like it. MAMI says that with more experiences it could get easier to find somewhere to work that fits yourself better.

•RINA reads the next message from a listener in Hong Kong who says that they're currently working part-time as a server in a restaurant but quit last week (lol how is that 'currently,' then?). They say that the reason is why they can't get along with people and have a hard time getting along with them, but changing jobs is what worries them the most. They say that they have found a new job and hope they'll be able to get along well with their co-workers. TOMO says that interpersonal relationships really are the most important thing, which the others agree with. MAMI says that it's like wherever you go, you're given a test when confronted with people you don't like. She says that if you do your best to interact with people you're not comfortable with, you may find that they're a lot nicer than you thought they were. Or you may decide that it's too much for you and go to a different place, which is also a good decision. But there are probably people you won't like whenever you go.

•HARU reads the next message from a listener who works part-time at Mos Burger. They write so much about their job that I'm not going to translate it all lol. The gist of it is that they and their co-workers have become a well-oiled machine that can churn out orders in about 10 minutes, despite orders coming in every minute for almost 23 hours nonstop, and the workers all get along well. They also mention that it's very difficult to manage frying items, such as their fish burgers, all in one fryer with limited space. RINA laughs that she can tell they're good at their job by the way they wrote that, and MAMI says that you can tell they have fun at their job. They all agree. HARU says that the story she told about her own work experience earlier took place at a Mos Burger. They don't really have any pre-made food so it was a lot of work, and the store she worked at had a drive-thru, which would get really crowded at lunch time. She says it was also really hot there in the summer. RINA says that as you do your job, you develop techniques and can do more and more things just by intuition. She also says that she always orders fish burgers and will think of the listener when she eats the burgers in the future. HARU says that she couldn't remember how to make the salads there for the life of her. The others laugh and TOMO asks if it's difficult to do. HARU laughs and says that thinking back on it now, it wasn't difficult at all, but she probably didn't have the will to learn. The others laugh and MAMI says that's cute.

•HARU reads the next message from a listener who says they had several students during three of their years of college, but the one they remember most was a girl they were in charge of for those three years. HARU goes, "So that means..." There's a pause before RINA whispers, "...they're a teacher?" There's another pause before they all go, "Hey! Teacher!" The listener basically says that they worked as a tutor, and that they really enjoyed their time with that girl, who became like a little sister to them. They say that they didn't end up actually becoming a teacher. TOMO goes, "Ah, we're rescinding that ['Hey! Teacher']!", which they all laugh at. HARU finishes reading the rest of the sentence, in which the listener says the experience of meeting children who called them a teacher was priceless. TOMO says that was a wonderful story. MAMI wonders if tutoring part-time was part of their major. HARU says that there a lot of people who do that. HARU says that it's impressive to teach people how to study, and that it seems very difficult to teach things to others. They close out the segment by saying thanks to everyone who sent in their stories.

•Before they close out the episode, there's one more message that TOMO reads from a listener who attended KAKOFES back in September. They basically tell them about their day and excursion to Kakogawa, and mention that they brought along their child who wanted to see a friend who lives close to Kakogawa. The listener dropped their kid off at the friend's while they went to the festival. They say it was a very memorable day for both of them. TOMO says she's happy to hear all that. The band says that it really seems like KAKOFES was very memorable for all of their fans that attended.

A look back at "Kanshasai vol.2" that ended without a hitch! Right after the tour ended, HARUNA said about the fans' voices, "You can feel the passion in them!"

Season 2, Episode 32 blog

Radio Program - 『SCANDAL Catch up supported by Meiji Bulgaria Yogurt』 - Page 4 4SBpqo6

HARUNA: So, this week...
We're giving thanks for the "Kanshaisai (Giving Thanks) vol.2" tour for the 15th anniversary of our debut!

TOMOMI: "Giving thanks" for "Kanshaisai."

HARUNA: This is a recap of our tour held in Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka! October 8 in Osaka, October 9 in Nagoya, and the final show on October 22 in Tokyo. Are there any "thanks" or "introspections" for each member?? We'll look back and see if there are any introspections...and discoveries. Before we begin, the staff has some material they would like us to listen to...

TOMOMI: What is it?

HARUNA: Yeah, we're curious, so let's get right to listening to it.

*Recorded material (*Fans interviewed by director Kawai-chan after the Tokyo concert)

I started listening to SCANDAL after a friend recommended them to me in Hokkaido during the pandemic. The concert was great. You guys always give me energy. I hope you continue to take care of your health and enjoy your activities! I'll also go to your concerts! Thank you very much for today!"

TOMOMI: So kind!!

HARUNA: Thanks as well.

My friend from elementary school invited me to come. I was able to listen to these nostalgic songs, and I'm glad that we could spend the 15th anniversary of your debut together. I hope to be able to go to many more concerts in the future. Please do your best and stay close to each other. I'm rooting for you!

My older brother liked SCANDAL at first. He went to Osaka by himself, and it was the song he was playing that made me like the band a little bit more, and that's how I got hooked on them. I gradually fell in love with the band when I was in high school, and here I am today. I was excited from the first song, and it was great to hear some of the old songs that aren't played often live. I regret not becoming a fan from the start. Congratulations on your 15th anniversary. I've only been a fan for a bit, but I'll always support you, so keep up the good work!

My daughter and son have been fans for a long time, so I knew about two thirds of the songs played at today's concert. This was my first time at a concert itself. I knew the songs from the beginning and had done some preliminary study, so I was excited and enjoyed the show. Congratulations on your 15th anniversary. It's been about 12 years since my daughter, son, and I have been fans. I had a great time and hope to come back.

All: Thank you so much!!

MAMI: You interviewed so many people...

TOMOMI: Everyone was so polite...

RINA: Kawai-chan was secretly interviewing them, wasn't she? Thank you!

HARUNA: I was wondering why she didn't come to us after it was over.

TOMOMI: Thank you.

RINA: The atmosphere at the concert was very real.

TOMOMI: It was very realistic.

RINA: It really, really was.

HARUNA: These were recorded right after the concert.

RINA: All of them were so articulate, all excited after the concert.

TOMOMI: They were so polite.

RINA: I'm happy.

MAMI: Everyone is really good at speaking.

HARUNA: It's because they were still so passionate right after...

RINA: There is a lot of passion.

•The episode starts with this.

•HARU says that they performed some songs that they haven't played in quite a while, but she thinks that they did a pretty good job of it. TOMO says that about half of them were those kinds of songs. HARU says that they used a lot of brainpower and energy, and she's glad that they worked hard. TOMO says that the fans seemed really pleased. HARU also mentions how fans who had attended the first performance in Osaka wrote messages to fans going to the remaining two performances to be careful since the setlist will sap your energy (as in the songs performed are so intense/high energy for the crowd), as well as things like the setlist was so insane that they can't even remember what happened. TOMO says that the setlist was honestly insane; they performed songs like "BEAUTeen!!", after all. She and HARU lists a few other songs they played, such as "Pin Heel Surfer," "Kagen no Tsuki," and "Namida yo Hikare." RINA says that they played "CANDY" and "Vision" for the first time live. HARU says that rehearsals were quite tough since there was a lot to remember for them, but it was fun performing those songs. The others agree.

•TOMO says that there are fans who remember the days [from when an older song was first released], so when the band plays a song they haven't in a while, those people may feel differently about it than they do at a regular concert. HARU says that as they mentioned in their MCs, the lyrics and performance of "Pin Heel Surfer" are more in tune with them now than when the song first came out. She felt as they were performing it that they fit the band really well now. She says that there are some songs that have grown as well. TOMO says that she didn't know before how good of a song "Namida yo Hikare" is, which makes the others laugh. They also agree that it's a good song. TOMO says she did like the song when it first came out, but she likes it even more now. HARU says that there are songs that feel totally different about now. TOMO says that some meanings have changed as the years have passed. HARU says that the significances of them have also changed, and that it makes her really glad they've continued to be a band. RINA says it made her really happy to see that they can now express any song from any era of theirs and do anything they want. MAMI says that it was all they could do to perform and sing the lyrics of songs back then, but now that they're making their own music, they've developed a pattern for the lyrics they write. Due to that, they are able to look at past songs objectively as if they--not other people--were the ones who had written them. They're able to understand the lyrics and sing them properly now. TOMO says that their lyrics back then were wacky, which makes the others laugh. MAMI says that they were like, "What are we even singing about??" back then, but now they kind of understand. It felt like those songs resonated more with the listeners than with the involved parties, and she felt that way again during this tour. Some people were crying during "Namida yo Hikare," which made her realize that the song really did resonate with fans. It made her emotional to see that on this tour.

•RINA says that one of the joys she's had is that they've had a lot of different ways of making music. There was a time when they were provided with music, a time when they co-wrote music, and a time when they started to write their own music, and when the latter started is how they've been making their music ever since. There was a time when bands had to make their own music to be recognized, but nowadays, if the quality of the music is high enough, it's considered to be good. Co-productions by various overseas artists have become popular among Japanese listeners as well. She says that she's felt the band had been able to create songs in a wonderful way for a long time, and it made her feel much lighter and feel that the timing was right for them to acknowledge all of themselves. HARU says that in the end it's all about people. A while ago it was important for them to compose their own music and build on that, but now that they've come this far, it doesn't matter so much. No matter what method they use to make music, what makes it a song of theirs is to simply have the four of them play and sing it. RINA says that she was moved by how it felt like they've made all of their songs their own.

•HARU says that it was a very short but intense tour. TOMO says that when they played the first show in Osaka, it already felt sacrilegious to have only three performances on the entire tour. The others immediately agree. TOMO continues that it was such a good tour that she wishes they had been able to tour the entire country on it. RINA says that they probably couldn't have done more than these three performances, though, and laughs. The others laugh as well. MAMI says while laughing that their heads, hearts, and bodies were at their max, after all. TOMO says she hopes they have another chance to do a Kanshasai tour, and RINA goes, "In five years, right?" They all laugh. HARU says that Kanshasai is like an anniversary tour of their debut (first one was held in 2018, the 10th anniversary of their debut). RINA says that it'd be really cool if they could keep doing this every five years. They say how the next one would be for the 20th anniversary. TOMO says that if they do do it again, they'll try their best to remember the songs that they'll play. HARU laughs and says that they'll have another five years worth of songs by then. TOMO says that their early days are becoming more and more distant past. The others agree and RINA laughs that they might not remember how to play "DOLL" at one point later. TOMO says that even if they forget, their hands will probably move on their own. HARU says that there are a handful of songs like that. MAMI says that fans have told them them this as well, but it's probably better that they release score books. The others agree and TOMO says that they haven't put out any in a while. MAMI laughs and says that if they did, the band would also be able to look at them and remember how to play the songs. TOMO says that it's also good for record keeping. They say that they'll consider releasing a score book next time. MAMI again says that it'll be for the band's benefit as well, and they all laugh at that.

•For the latter half of the episode, they talk about Meiji's Yan Yan snack and how 11/11 is Yan Yan Day (since sticks of Yan Yan look like 1s). There are questions and answers written on the sticks, and MAMI asks the others hers: "Do you know when Hanamatsuri is?" HARU goes, "March? No?" TOMO says she wants to try guessing it and guesses April. MAMI says that it is in April but she can't read what day it says it is on the stick, and then asks the staff if they can make it out. They guess it says the 9th (it's actually the 8th lol). RINA reads hers: "What day is June 4th?" TOMO guesses "Mushi no Hi" (Bug Day; and "mu" = six, "shi" = four). RINA says that that's really close. TOMO then guesses "Konchuu no Hi" (Insect Day). RINA says that it's "Mushiba [Yobo Day]" (Cavity Prevention Day; "mushiba" means "cavity" and also uses the kanji for bug = 虫). The others go, "Ahh!" HARU says that she can't read what hers says at all. She shows the others and they laugh, saying that they can't read it either. TOMO reads hers: "Do you know when Koshogatsu (Little New Year) is?" MAMI guesses April. RINA guesses January, which TOMO says is correct. TOMO then asks what day in January it is. MAMI guesses the 2nd. TOMO says that's not it. RINA guesses the 4th. TOMO says that's also not it, and says that it probably says it's on the 15th (probably because the print was messed up lol). HARU then goes, "I got it!" and starts reading what it says on her stick: "What is the name of the Tanabata Festival in Aomori City?" In the middle of them laughing, TOMO says Nebuta. MAMI then realizes that Hanamatsuri is actually on April 8th (she looked it up on her phone), which is also Buddha's birthday. TOMO says that these are really educational. They continue eating the snacks and HARU mentions that the Yan Yan she keeps at home are always eaten up by TOMO.

A feedback festival by fans for "Kanshaisai vol.2"!! Also, a lavish feast of Yan Yan!!

Season 2, Episode 33 blog

Radio Program - 『SCANDAL Catch up supported by Meiji Bulgaria Yogurt』 - Page 4 IKNKyDw

HARUNA: So, this week...continuing from last time,
We're giving thanks for the "Kanshaisai (Giving Thanks) vol.2" tour for the 15th anniversary of our debut!

MAMI: Ah! The script doesn't say "Kanshasai" but "Kansousai" (Feedback Festival), right?

HARUNA: Ah, that's right!

TOMOMI: It does!

HARUNA: Last time it was "Kanshasai," right?

Staff: Last time was Kanshasai, and this time is Kansousai.

RINA: So that's why it's "Kansousai."

TOMOMI: Kansousai!!

HARUNA: So, this was a Kansousai!
We'll look back on the tour that took place in Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka!
Here is a summary of messages from those who came to Osaka on October 8, Nagoya on October 9, and Tokyo on October 22!

Ichikomen

Good evening, SCANDAL!

Thank you very much for your hard work on the Kanshasai tour! The afterglow has lasted for quite a while, but please let me send exactly what I feel...! haha

I'm a nursery school teacher, and it was a hard period for me physically and mentally with the sports day and the field trip...

All: Hey! Teacher!

Therefore! I spent my time motivated by the concert, and the concert gave me a lot of power to carry on with my daily life again! Thank you very much!

This is a very personal story... I discovered SCANDAL when I was 15 years old, and 15 years have passed. Basically, I have been going to concerts and supporting them by myself all the time. But in high school, I had a friend from a club who recommended songs to me and invited me to concerts and events. This girl was different from me, but we became lifelong friends through our club activities, and she was the friend who listened to me without denying me ever since then. After graduating, I stopped inviting her to things, but she knows that I like SCANDAL, and we still meet up regularly.

When I've looked at SCANDAL over the past few years, I feel like I want people to know more about these four awesome members! At that moment, I suddenly saw that girl's face, and I felt like I should talk to her for the first time in a while. When I invited her to the previous tour, she said she wanted to go! So we went together. She said to take her to this tour as well, so she went the Osaka performance with me!

I have fond memories of all the songs, but when the song "BEAUTeen!!" that I listened to in high school came on, we both looked at each other and said in unison that the songs played from "BEAUTeen!!" to "Taiyou to Kimi ga Egaku STORY" made us cry!

Both we and SCANDAL have lived through the same era with so many things going on, and the fact that we have grown up and are able to listen to SCANDAL's music again with the friend I spent time with back then was so emotional that it became an unforgettable memory.

That night, she listened to me talk about my love for SCANDAL, saying it was just as good as back then, and we talked about how my friend's relationship with her partner was just like the world view of "Ai ni Naranakatta no sa." Also, when she looked at Yaoyao's photo book [about SCANDAL] and said how nice it is to leave images that only exist now, I realized that it was our 15th anniversary since we met, so I went straight to a self-photo studio and made a reservation (haha). The next day we took our 15th anniversary photo and then went our own ways. Through this concert, I felt that the relationship with my friend became stronger again, and I felt very warm!

RINA: Wow, that's awesome~!

MAMI: True friends. How wonderful!

TOMOMI: I'm really happy...

HARUNA: It's just like a movie!

RINA: A coming-of-age movie!

HARUNA: They're affirming everything about themselves, too...

RINA: It feels like they're a true SCANDAL fan.

HARUNA: Self-photo studios are the best!

TOMOMI: So awesome! I want to see those pictures.

RINA: Yeah, I want to see them. I'm glad they enjoyed it.

HARUNA: Please come again with your friend to a concert of ours.

Radio Program - 『SCANDAL Catch up supported by Meiji Bulgaria Yogurt』 - Page 4 8owjKjQ

•The episode starts with this.

•TOMO reads the next message from a listener who attended the Nagoya performance and mentions songs that were performed that they have memories of. They say that the setlist reminded them that SCANDAL has always been a part of their life. TOMO and HARU are impressed at how many people say the setlist brings back memories for them. They say it's awesome that "LOVE SURVIVE" was the first song that the listener says they practiced in their light music club, and then laugh about how they said that they gave up on learning it and tried learning "Kagen no Tsuki" instead. MAMI says that it should be the opposite.

•MAMI reads the next message from a listener who also attended the Nagoya performance and says that they were the person in the fourth row who was super happy when HARU said they would play some old songs, and HARU had responded to that, "Someone's really happy!" They all laugh and HARU says that they were really happy. The listener also mentions that they met up with a colleague for dinner and then they went to the concert together. They typically hang out a lot and talk about stuff like how "BEAUTeen!!" really is the best song after all, singing along to "Taiyou to Kimi ga Egaku STORY" while driving, and watching the "Pin Heel Surfer" MV while drinking at home. They say it was a night that made them vow to continue to be a SCANDAL fan and cherish the friends they have by their side who bring them so much happiness. HARU laughs about how the listener knew they would be playing those aforementioned old songs before the band even did. MAMI says those songs are already really embedded in their life. RINA says that fans getting excited like that gets the band excited as well. MAMI says that they are able to surprisingly see the audiences' expressions easily from the stage.

•RINA reads the next message from a listener who has been a fan for 14 years and have never missed a tour since then, and says that Kanshasai vol.2 was very important for them since they're currently 6 months pregnant and won't be able to go to anymore concerts for a while. RINA says that there are so many fans like them these days, but it makes her really happy to see everyone continuing to listen to their music while moving ahead with their lives. HARU says she's glad they were able to come to a show right before their due date, and that SCANDAL is their prenatal care. The others laugh at this. TOMO says she has a friend who has a kid who, when they hear [SCANDAL? it seems like] songs they heard while in the womb, are "their songs." The band is surprised by that and says that's cute and that it makes them happy. RINA says that it makes her think that they have to keep working hard. HARU says that they have to keep hanging in there until the listener returns to attending their concerts. RINA says that it makes them wonder how they should go on with their own lives, but they do have to take good care of the band.

•HARU reads the next message from a listener who attended the Tokyo performance and also mentions stuff about being happy to hear songs live that they haven't in a while. They end their message with a PS where they say that they ask questions to the their lighting engineer every time they attend a concert. They know they must be tired after a concert, but they always answer any questions courteously and the listener learns a lot. They say that they'd like to take this opportunity to thank them. The band is surprised to hear the PS and wonder what kind of questions they ask, and also wonder if they plan to be a lighting engineer in the future. RINA says that their lighting staff really is first-class, after all. MAMI says that pretty much any artist who watches a SCANDAL concert praises their lighting. TOMO says that they're a very nice person. They say that they'll try asking them during BEST Xmas rehearsals. MAMI laughs that it's kind of amusing that they're finding out about this on the radio.

•TOMO reads the next message from a listener who attended both the Osaka and Tokyo performances with their wife and daughter. They say that they ate at the Hard Rock Cafe (by Universal Studios Japan) after the Osaka concert where Western music videos were playing on the monitors, but suddenly footage of "Shunkan Sentimental" from one of SCANDAL's concerts at Osaka-Jo Hall started playing. A staffer seemed to have played it just for them. They say they were really happy and that they'd like to take this opportunity to thank them. The band says that's awesome. TOMO says that they probably had on SCANDAL merch and that's how the staffer knew they were SCANDAL fans. They start wondering if the staffer started playing a DVD, or perhaps they played one of the illegal uploads on YouTube lol. MAMI says that RINA's dad loves Hard Rock Cafe. RINA laughs and says that maybe she'll invite him to go.

•MAMI reads the next message from a listener who also mentions that they were glad to hear some songs live that they never have before. They also mention that they've had "BEAUTeen!!" as their alarm for the past 11 years. Another thing they talk about is that the trouble the band ran into during "A.M.D.K.J." was actually good, and it was the most exciting rendition of the song ever. They end it by saying that fans welcome troubles like that. The band laughs at this. TOMO explains that there was some unknown sound that could be heard in the middle of the song. HARU says that they've never been able to figure out what that was. RINA says that there's a set that has electronic drum sounds in addition to her actual drum set, and she thinks it was a combination of those. TOMO says that their staff checked everything and found nothing, which is why they really don't know what caused it. MAMI says that it was enough to make their legs shake. They laugh about how they were all unsure of what to do. TOMO says that she's glad they did stop because their ears were hurting. They laugh and agree. TOMO says it was a bizarre phenomenon. MAMI says they could tell the fans were having a great time because after the trouble was over, they played the song one more time and everyone was really excited. TOMO says that she floated about 5 cm off the floor [since the fans were that intense].

•MAMI then mentions how the listener said they've had "BEAUTeen!!" as their alarm for the past 11 years. RINA says they probably can't wake up without it now. HARU goes, "Rather, wouldn't they have gotten so used to it and they can't wake up?" and they all laugh. MAMI says that everyone must really love "BEAUTeen!!" since it's come up in everyone's messages, and wonders if it's because there are a lot of people who became a fan during that era. The others think that's sure to be part of it. TOMO says that it's a very early song of theirs. MAMI says that the members were all about twenty somethings. HARU says that there were probably a lot of people who started listening to them during their "Shunkan Sentimental" and "Shoujo S" eras and then bought their albums, discovering "BEAUTeen!!" on them. TOMO goes, "Wait, wasn't that a B-side song?" The others say that it was. TOMO goes, "It was also on ENCORE SHOW? No..." HARU corrects her and says that it's on SCANDAL SHOW. They say thanks for loving this song for so long. MAMI says that the listener will probably have it as their alarm for the rest of their life. The others laugh. TOMO says that that's quite all right. MAMI says that if they don't change it now, then they'll probably never change it. RINA wonders if they were to change it, then what would they change it to. MAMI says she wonders as well. RINA says perhaps "A.M.D.K.J." and they all chuckle. MAMI says that it'll remind them of the trouble that happened. HARU says that it'll get them excited. MAMI says they'll get excited and be able to wake up. They had been giving out 20 Yan Yan to each listener whose message was read, and with 7 messages being read, they'll end up giving out a total of 140 Yan Yan. TOMO wonders if that'll be okay. The staff seems to reassure her, which makes her go, "Meiji's so awesome!"

What's the fine line between "fast" and "slow" responses from the other party?

Season 2, Episode 34 blog

Radio Program - 『SCANDAL Catch up supported by Meiji Bulgaria Yogurt』 - Page 4 YjiWZdl

HARUNA: This time we'll be doing a segment that we haven't done in almost a year...

TOMOMI: Really!?

HARUNA: It's been a while. "Catch up Kyoukai-sen Kyoukai" (Fine Line Association)!

RINA: It's my favorite segment.

TOMOMI: It doesn't feel like we haven't done it for a year, does it?

HARUNA: We haven't done it for almost a year. Now, let us open the 2023 meeting.

Hachimitsu Daisuki

When I met with childhood friend A the other day, childhood friend B told me that she had contacted A and said, "You haven't gotten a reply [from the listener]. It's late."

I thought to myself, "What? I replied right away that day." I looked back at my LINE messages and said, "I replied in about 30 minutes." A said, "No, that's too late."

Personally, on my days off, it takes me around 1 hour, which is what I'd consider fast. About 2-3 hours would be normal. About 5-6 hours would be slow.

On work days, it's fast if it's within 24 hours. About 2 days would be normal. Anything more than that feels like it's too late.

The other friends I'm in touch with on a regular basis tend to be at the same pace as me, so I was surprised that although we've been childhood friends since we were born, our sense of time in our lives is so different. I was wondering who is in the majority. How about you, SCANDAL?

I would like you to draw a fine line between what's fast and what's slow.

RINA: I see. I think it's different depending on the person.

MAMI: It depends on what the matter's about. Like, if you want an immediate reply, or if you have something to decide right now. At times like that, I think it's important to take 30 minutes to respond.

HARUNA: It also differs between work and private life.

TOMOMI: Let's go with private life.

MAMI: So let's say your plan is, "Where are you going for lunch in a week?'' Do you think 30 minutes is too late to reply?

RINA: I don't think so at all.

HARUNA: I don't think so.

MAMI: I don't think so either.

TOMOMI: I don't think 30 minutes is late at all.

MAMI: I don't think it's late even after a day.

RINA: I think it's totally fine if they ask the next day, "What do you think of this place?

MAMI: As long as it is decided by that day.

TOMOMI: If they say "I'll be there" two or three hours before the day of the event... I think it would still be okay.

RINA: It depends on the relationship.

TOMOMI: In terms of whether the reply is fast or slow...

RINA: If it's on the day of the event, it's slow.

TOMOMI: That's true.

MAMI: That's late.

HARUNA: There's also arrangements to be made.

RINA: If they're prompt enough that they've decided by the day before, I think it's totally fine.

HARUNA: You can decide on the location the day before.

TOMOMI: When you get a response really fast, you think, "That was fast," but you rarely think, "That was slow," right??

HARUNA: Not really.

MAMI: But basically, I think 30 minutes is fast.

TOMOMI: We happen to agree [with the listener], but it is possible that we're in the minority.

•The episode starts with this.

•TOMO wonders how long it takes their program director Ono to reply. RINA immediately says that he probably takes a long time, which they all laugh at. Ono says that he replies back right away if it's on LINE. The band is surprised by this. He also says that the messages will accumulate otherwise. RINA says that he is a busy person. MAMI says that there are a lot of times when you happen to be looking at your phone when a LINE message comes through and you accidentally tap on the message, which it marks it as read, so you feel that you need to reply right away. HARU says that she doesn't think it's problem that it's marked as read right away, as long as you do respond at one point. MAMI says that you do feel a little concerned about it, though. RINA says that she gets it and says that if it's something about work, she can reply within a minute. HARU says that RINA is really fast at replying. RINA says she is, and that she can give an answer in about two seconds. They laugh at this. HARU says that RINA wants to decide on whatever it is right away. RINA says that regarding personal matters, however, she doesn't worry about that at all. Ono says that he doesn't get many messages from friends and wonders about staffer Kawai, who is younger. She seems to say that she's like RINA and doesn't worry about it.

•RINA says that there are some people who will send the same message again (because they didn't get a reply the first time) without worrying too much about it, and that it's fine if you're sending it to a friend when you want them to answer back right away. She says that she personally tries to reply quickly, but even when she feels that the person's not replying back fast enough, even though she wants a fast reply, she doesn't send the message again. TOMO says that it's hard to draw the fine line for this. HARU says that the four of them feel that replying back in 30 minutes is quick. RINA clarifies that's that's for them who are in their 30s. TOMO says that if the reply comes on the day you're supposed to meet up/etc., then it's too late. They also say that it's totally normal if the reply comes a few days later [after the first message]. HARU says that that's the same as what the listener thinks. RINA says there's nothing wrong there and they laugh. HARU says that you would be a little shocked if two people tell you otherwise, like the listener's friends. They again say that what the listener's opinions are on this are totally valid.

•Ono then says that the same listener has sent in another message, which TOMO reads. The listener says that in S2E30 episode during the "SCAN-Dare!?" segment (TOMO: "What segment is this, again?" - No one seems to remember), the band mentions BPM and how they'd consider songs of theirs to be fast/slow when it comes to SCANDAL songs. They ask what they think the fine line is between fast/slow songs, and which song do they think is right on that line. MAMI says that she has something in mind, and that their songs that are 180+ BPM are what she'd consider as fast. TOMO goes, "Wouldn't 170 be the fine line?" MAMI again says that she thinks it's 180. TOMO asks about ones that are 179. MAMI says that that's okay. TOMO asks if she'd consider them as just being normal. MAMI says that it is on the higher side. RINA says it is when it comes to SCANDAL songs. TOMO thinks that the song that'd be on that line is "LOVE SURVIVE." MAMI says that since making their own songs, she doesn't know anymore if LS is a fast song. HARU says that in those days, it was their fastest song yet. TOMO says that does feel fast and not slow, which is why she thinks it's on the line.

•MAMI says that she thinks the fine line for her when she writes songs is 180, which she considers to be fast. TOMO says that pretty much all of the songs she's written are on the slower side. MAMI wonders if none of TOMO's songs are over 100 BPM. TOMO says there is "Kan Biiru." MAMI says that about 90% of TOMO's songs are slow. TOMO says that she likes slower songs. RINA says that when playing the drums, she can easily do songs that are 190 BPM with a smile, which makes them all laugh. HARU asks what BPM "Line of sight" is. MAMI says it's 185. HARU then wonders about "A.M.D.K.J." MAMI says it's probably around 180. HARU says she agrees that 180 is where she thinks the line is. MAMI says that "Masterpiece" is around that same speed. RINA says that BPM depends on the number of notes in relation to the tempo, which the others agree with. MAMI says that the guitar phrases in "LOVE SURVIVE" are fast, which likely makes the entire song feel fast. They all agree that it's the song that's right on the fine line between what's a fast/slow SCANDAL song. They wonder what other fans think of this subject, and if they think LS is a fast song. RINA says that their fans do seem to like songs that are fast, after all. MAMI says that "Platform Syndrome" and "Fuzzy" are really fast songs.

•HARU goes, "What kind of segment is 'SCAN-Dare!?', again?" and chuckles. The other members don't seem to remember either. Ono also says that he can't remember, which makes the band laugh. TOMO says that it was only 4 episodes ago. They all try to recall what it's about. Kawai seems to explain to them what it is (it's where one member tries to guess what their subject is, based on 3 questions they get to ask the other members). They laugh at how they weren't able to remember it.

•They then announce that they'll be doing another live broadcast on TOKYO FM on Mon. December 18th from 2 am to 4 am JST (click to convert to your time zone). They say that even though it's a weekday, they'd like people to participate live. RINA says there are days when you're a bit tired and sleep-deprived, but you feel like you're getting through it easily and feel a little excited, and that they'll make the broadcast day like that. HARU agrees and says they'll make it a really fun radio program, and then announces the message theme: "Midnight no Naka de Bokura Zutto, Line of sight na Ao no Naru Shinya no Sukima de from the darkness na Hanashi wo Yoake no Ryuuseigun to Tomo ni Mabataki Shinaide one more time" ("In the middle of the night, we're always in the line of sight talking about stories from the darkness in the gaps of the blue, ringing night with a meteor shower at dawn, one more time without blinking" lol) - or "Mayonaka no Hisohisobanashi" (Whispered Conversations In the Middle of the Night). The band laughs at this. HARU says that the title wasn't actually abbreviated at all. Since it's the program's first late night live broadcasts, they'd like people to send in personal experiences/stories that they'd like to talk about secretly. This includes things like personal confessions, quirks, preferences, seeing something you couldn't tell anyone about, shocking sights. Messages related to love are also okay.

•Another thing they announce is that they will be doing Power Word Awards this year as well. This is where you send in any remarks or comments from the band said on the program in 2023 that you found particularly striking/memorable/etc. The deadline to send them in is December 10. HARU says that apparently some listener have already sent some messages in for it, even though they didn't announce it beforehand. RINA says that they must be longtime listeners who know the flow of the program. HARU laughs that it helps that Ono also remembered to hold the awards. They wonder if any of what they've said this past year on the program have been memorable, but Ono says that there apparently have been a lot. HARU and RINA say they're not too confident about it, and then laugh.

HARUNA on TOMOMI's misreading: "This is a candidate for the Power Word Awards"

Episode #35 blog

Radio Program - 『SCANDAL Catch up supported by Meiji Bulgaria Yogurt』 - Page 4 Kf179HR

HARUNA: We'll just be reading messages this time. Let's get to it.

Yacchi

I attended Kanshasai vol.2 at Zepp Haneda! The setlist was really awesome!!

I've been going to SCANDAL concerts every year since I started working in 2018, but this was my first time hearing so many songs live. Seeing how the fans around me knew how to vibe to any song made me realize that I'm still a newbie... I'll go to more and more concerts from now on and do my best so that I can show off my vibing with a smug look on my face!

Congratulations on the 15th anniversary of your debut!

HARUNA: There were quite a few old songs on this tour, so vibing to songs is definitely something to think about...

RINA: Something like that will make you go, "How do you vibe to this song?" But you're free to do whatever you want, so no need to worry about it at all!

HARUNA: You don't have to worry about it at all, and even if you think do, I don't think the people around you care at all.

RINA: It's the MANIA members in our fan club who create the vibes. But they also want to make the newcomers feel comfortable...I think many of them have already thought that much about it, so I really hope they can enjoy the music how they like.

HARUNA: But it would be surprising for them to see people suddenly start spinning towels during a chorus.

TOMOMI: That's true.

RINA: It'll make you go, "So that's what you do during this song!"

TOMOMI: As for Kanshasai, I think more than half the audience had at least one song that they had never heard before.

HARUNA: That's definitely not the case with "BEAUTeen!!", right?

MAMI: Yeah, we haven't played that for a while.

HARUNA: Please keep coming back to our concerts!

TOMOMI:Now for the next message.

Watapan

I attended the Billboard JAPAN Women In Music concert held at Hibiya Park Concert Hall on November 3. I usually go to SCANDAL concerts alone, but this was the first time I invited my husband. He had attended "NAON no YAON" 10 years ago to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the venue, and he said, "SCANDAL performed at that~"

When the event started and we were listening to Nishina, the first performer, sing, a 7-8 cm bee-like insect flew onto the back of a middle-aged man wearing a yellow "Sekai Ichi" t-shirt who was sitting one row in front of us. As I stood by and watched in horror as the same bug repeatedly flew at the man in the yellow shirt, my husband calmly explained that the insect was trying its best to stretch its mouth toward the t-shirt. He said that the bug probably thought the yellow t-shirt was a flower and was trying to suck the nectar. Unfortunately, the bug could not suck the nectar, and it did not come close to us after that.

SCANDAL appeared at the end of the show in the outfits from their latest promo photos, and when I saw them, I couldn't help muttering how cool they looked the moment I saw them. I enjoyed dancing and shouting as much as I could in the pleasant night breeze!

On the way home, I asked my husband, "Wasn't SCANDAL cool?" He said, "It was so wonderful! I was surprised to see TOMOMI dancing and playing beautifully. And the flower sitting in front of us...

MAMI: What??

HARUNA: ...eh? Flower!?

MAMI: The "flower" that was sitting in front!! It doesn't say "flower," does it?

TOMOMI: Sorry, I misread...

MAMI: Eh?

HARUNA: This is a "Power Word Award" candidate.

TOMOMI: That was my mistake... The listener didn't write that.

MAMI: What did they really write?

TOMOMI: It says, "The flower-man sitting in front of us was also..."

MAMI: No, no, no, they go together, "flower" and "flower-man."

TOMOMI: I'll continue...

"And the flower-man sitting in front of us was also vibing a lot," he said. He seemed to have enjoyed the atmosphere of the venue, and I'm glad we were able to go together to the concert.

MAMI: The listener also wrote "flower-man," right?

TOMOMI: Yeah, not just "flower." They were just wearing a yellow shirt.

MAMI: But the listener is also roasting the guy, right?

RINA: They are, and the husband is too.
